Early life and career
Sammy Kershaw was born in Kaplan in Acadiana in south Louisiana and is the third cousin of singer Doug Kershaw. When he was 11, his grandfather gave him his first guitar. But his father died that year, so Sammy had to work a variety of day jobs while playing roadhouses at night to support his family. He began performing in Acadiana with Louisiana legend J.B. Pere. Subsequently, he opened shows for Ray Price, Merle Haggard, and George Jones while barely into his teens. When the pressures of growing up fast took their toll in the form of a serious drug and alcohol problem, he quit his bad habits in 1988 and took a break from music to work as a remodeling supervisor at Wal-Mart.
"Wonderful World" (occasionally referred to as "(What A) Wonderful World") is a song by American singer-songwriterSam Cooke. Released on April 14, 1960 by Keen Records, it had been recorded during an impromptu session the previous year, Cooke's last recording session at Keen Records. He signed with RCA Victor in 1960 and "Wonderful World," then unreleased, was issued as a single in competition. The song was mainly composed by songwriting team Lou Adler and Herb Alpert, but Cooke revised the lyrics to mention the subject of education more.
"Wonderful World" ended up doing substantially better on the charts than several of his early RCA singles, becoming his biggest hit single since "You Send Me" (1957). The song peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit number two on Billboard'sHot R&B Sides chart.
Herman's Hermits charted better with a cover of the song in 1965, reaching number four in the United States and number seven in the United Kingdom, respectively. Another cover by Art Garfunkel in the late 1970s appeared on the charts as well. The song was featured in the 1978 film Animal House and gained greater recognition in the UK upon a 1986 re-release when it peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, going silver. Its success was attributed to sound-alike versions featured in the film Witness (1985) and a memorable Levi's 501 television commercial.
"What a Wonderful World" is a song written by Bob Thiele (as "George Douglas") and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released in 1967 as a single, which topped the pop charts in the United Kingdom. Thiele and Weiss were both prominent in the music world (Thiele as a producer and Weiss as a composer/performer). Armstrong's recording was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. The publishing for this song is controlled by Memory Lane Music Group, Carlin Music Corp. and BMG Rights Management.

I've seen my heart get hurt So many times I thought that it would die I've found myself awake at nights Where all I did was sit and cry I'm not asking for your pity I'm just trying to let you know what's on my mind I must be getting older But everybody says that old is wise You ask me why I don't Give my all and everything to you Well I'm a little to old for merry-go-rounds and games to me are just for fools So until I know it's real I'll never give my heart away again I must be getting older Cause I've never been smarter than I am I've felt the pain of losing When lovin always let me down I'm not too tough for bruisin My heart could probably stand another round It's just that I've been weakened And I'm finally old enough to make my stand I must be getting older Cause I've never been smarter than I am I must be getting older
