Samuel Paul "Sammy" Kershaw (born February 24, 1958, Kaplan, Louisiana, United States) is an American country music artist. He has released 10 studio albums, with three RIAA platinum certifications and two gold certifications among them. More than 25 singles have entered Top 40 on the BillboardHot Country Songs charts, including the number one hit "She Don't Know She's Beautiful" and 10 more Top 10 hits: "Cadillac Style", "Anywhere but Here", "Haunted Heart", "Queen of My Double-Wide Trailer", "I Can't Reach Her Anymore", "National Working Woman's Holiday", "Third Rate Romance", "Meant to Be", "Vidalia", and "Love of My Life".
Early life and career
Sammy Kershaw was born in Kaplan in Acadiana in south Louisiana and is the third cousin of singer Doug Kershaw. When he was 11, his grandfather gave him his first guitar. But his father died that year, so Sammy had to work a variety of day jobs while playing roadhouses at night to support his family. He began performing in Acadiana with Louisiana legend J.B. Pere. Subsequently, he opened shows for Ray Price, Merle Haggard, and George Jones while barely into his teens. When the pressures of growing up fast took their toll in the form of a serious drug and alcohol problem, he quit his bad habits in 1988 and took a break from music to work as a remodeling supervisor at Wal-Mart.
Maybe Not Tonight is the title of the sixth studio album released by American country music artist Sammy Kershaw. It was released in 1999 (see 1999 in country music) on Mercury Records. The first album of his career not to achieve an RIAA certification, it also failed to produce any Top Ten country hits. The lead-off single, which was the title track duet with Lorrie Morgan (also included on her 1999 album My Heart) reached #17 on the country charts. This song was concurrently promoted by Mercury and BNA Records, Morgan's label. Following it were "When You Love Someone" at #37 and "Me and Maxine" at #35. "Louisiana Hot Sauce", the fourth and final track, failed to chart. Also included is a cover of Bobby Vee's "More Than I Can Say", a #61 pop hit in 1961 (also a #2 pop hit for Leo Sayer in 1980). In addition, "How Much Does the World Weigh" was later recorded by Tracy Byrd on his 2001 album Ten Rounds. Maybe Not Tonight was also Kershaw's last studio album for Mercury. After it was released, Mercury issued an album of cover songs and a second greatest hits compilation before he exited the label.

I've seen my heart get hurt So many times I thought that it would die I've found myself awake at nights Where all I did was sit and cry I'm not asking for your pity I'm just trying to let you know what's on my mind I must be getting older But everybody says that old is wise You ask me why I don't Give my all and everything to you Well I'm a little to old for merry-go-rounds and games to me are just for fools So until I know it's real I'll never give my heart away again I must be getting older Cause I've never been smarter than I am I've felt the pain of losing When lovin always let me down I'm not too tough for bruisin My heart could probably stand another round It's just that I've been weakened And I'm finally old enough to make my stand I must be getting older Cause I've never been smarter than I am I must be getting older
