I recently came across a YouTube video by that declared that 'Britain's Roughest Estate' lies within the West Midlands town of Walsall. According to the video, the Blakenhall Heath estate is highlighted as one of the most dangerous in the area. Apparently this is a place where knife-wielding youths run riot and a police no-go area. One particular road, Dawson Street is referenced as akin to 'war-torn Ukraine'. According to the video description, "The national media has recently described Dawson Steet and the surrounding area as Britain’s roughest estate, where knife-wielding yobs run wild among other things, and the local media feel the same, calling it a hell hole."

7 Guilty for brutal murder of Bailey Atkinson in Walsall town centre
On the evening of 27 January 2023, Bailey was out with a female friend. A taxi dropped them in Walsall town centre and they were walking past the market stalls when a car swerved towards them.
Bailey told his friend to “run” as he also ran along the High Street.
There were two cars in convoy, a Toyota Verso and a Seat Leon, both had been stolen in previous days.
The nine occupants of both vehicles had met up on a supermarket car park shortly before they drove into the town centre looking for Bailey. It’s thought they sought him in retaliation for an attack on a brother of one of their number by Bailey two months previously.
They cornered Bailey and by Lower Hall Lane and drove at him.
Bailey managed to escape, but the cars circled and caught up with him further along the High Street ...

Connor Brookes shot dead on Walsall street in drive by attack
Police were called to Well Lane at around 5pm after a van is believed to have been shot at, injuring one passenger and killing another.
Police began the investigation and three people were quickly arrested. A 22-year-old and two teenagers aged 17 and 18 remain in police custody this evening.
Police also have specialist officers working with the family of the man who died and thoughts remain firmly with them as the investigation into his death continues.
The focus over the coming days is to ensure that Police keep everyone safe and will continue to use extra powers to do this. The extra powers, a section 60 dispersal order, allows us to disperse and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.

What to See in #Walsall | The Saddlers Town of the UK
Walsall is often referred to as the "Saddlers town" of the UK. This nickname originates from its historical association with the leather industry, particularly saddle making. During the Industrial Revolution, Walsall became a significant centre for the production of saddles. This is nowadays shown by the horse statue in Walsall Park, known as the Saddler's Sculpture.
In our flash visit to Walsall, we've focused out attention to the Town Centre and its architecture, to their central church St Matthew's, and to Walsall Arboretum Park - the place where we've filmed also the Saddler's Sculpture. We've also interviewed the Walsall Mayor, The Councillor Chris Towe.

Seven teens found guilty of Walsall murder
“I’m going to die. Tell my mom I love her.”
These were the dying words of 21-year-old Bailey Atkinson to a police officer as he lay in Walsall town centre having been brutally attacked with blades and machetes in January last year.
In spite of open-heart surgery at the scene, Bailey died from multiple stabs wounds to his back, arms and legs.
Bailey had moved to Walsall from Coventry two years previously to escape a gang life style, but sadly became embroiled in Walsall’s own warring groups.
On the evening of 27 January, Bailey was out with a female friend. A taxi dropped them in Walsall town centre and they were walking past the market stalls when a car swerved towards them.
Bailey told his friend to “run” as he also ran along the High Street.

Why does this interest me so much? Although I have now moved away from the area, my family hails from this neck of the woods. I very much have Walsall blood flowing through my veins. Indeed my grandparents lived most of their lives only a stones throw from the notorious Blakenhall Heath estate. I am well aware that this is a rough area, but I have travelled all around the UK making these videos and I was sceptical that this was indeed "Britain's Roughest Estate". I had to visit and find out for myself... Is it REALLY that bad?

Police were at Bailey’s side in less than five minutes and began CPR, but sadly he was pronounced dead at hospital a short time later.
Detectives launched a meticulous investigation, examining hours of CCTV and mobile phone evidence, plotting each of the defendants’ movements to establish their part in Bailey’s murder.
And today (21 March) after a ten-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court, seven teenagers, who were aged between 15 and 18 at the time of the attack, have been found guilty of Bailey’s murder.
They are:
Benjamin Wilkes aged 18 of Guild Avenue, Bloxwich
Patrick Brookes aged 18 of Hunter Crescent, Walsall
Sonny Loveridge aged 19 of Irvine Road, Bloxwich
Ronan McCulloch aged 18 of Livingstone Road, Bloxwich

Bailey managed to escape, but the cars circled and caught up with him further along the High Street where six of the occupants got out and attacked Bailey with machetes and zombie knives. Bailey didn’t stand a chance.
His attackers got back in the cars leaving him on the floor, one even stopped to try to take a photo of Bailey on his mobile phone, as he lay bleeding on the floor.
All occupants of the cars made off to Slater Street in Wolverhampton where the cars were found burnt out just minutes after the killing.
