The mother of a woman stabbed to death has paid tribute to her daughter – and all without saying a word.
Rhiannon Skye White, 27, was attacked at Bescot Stadium railway station, near the home ground of Walsall Football Club, on Sunday evening.
Rhiannon, who had been heading home to see her mum, died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital three days later surrounded by her family.
Deng Chol Majek, 18, of Walsall, has been arrested and charged with murder after initially being charged with attempted murder.
Rhiannon’s mother, Siobhan Whyte, updated her profile picture on Facebook yesterday to her holding hands with her daughter in the hospital.
Posted without a caption, the photograph shows Rhiannon with black fake nails that had spiderweb designs on them.
‘Oh Siobhan we are thinking of you,’ commented one of the grieving mum’s friends.
Rhiannon clocked out of work at 11pm and hoped to catch the 11.21pm home train. According to her family, she was on the phone speaking with a friend when she was ‘attacked from behind on the platform’.
Police were phoned to Bescot Stadium railway station just after 11.25pm after a passer-by found Rhiannon injured.
Rhiannon’s sister, Alexandra Whyte, has launched a fundraiser for the ‘little boy she left behind’.
‘Rhiannon was the most selfless human and would give anything for anyone so in her honour we need to raise the funds to support those who have been affected by similar situations and give our five-year-old little boy the best life,’ she said on GoFundMe.
Prosecutor Nicholas Coates confirmed yesterday that Majek will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court next month for a preparatory hearing.
‘Chol Majek was initially charged with attempted murder but the victim, Rhiannon Whyte, has sadly died. Our thoughts remain with her friends and family at this incredibly difficult time,’ he said.
‘I would like to remind all concerned that there are active criminal proceedings against Chol Majek and he has the right to a fair trial. There must be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online that may in any way prejudice these proceedings.’
Paying tribute to Rhiannon, her family said she was ‘the most loved daughter, compassionate sister, loving aunty, gracious granddaughter, beautiful niece, wonderful cousin and devoted friend’.
