William Christopher Handy (November 16, 1873 – March 28, 1958) was an American blues composer and musician. He was widely known as the "Father of the Blues".
Handy remains among the most influential of American songwriters. Though he was one of many musicians who played the distinctively American form of music known as the blues, he is credited with giving it its contemporary form. While Handy was not the first to publish music in the blues form, he took the blues from a regional music style (Delta blues) with a limited audience to one of the dominant national forces in American music.
Handy was an educated musician who used folk material in his compositions. He was scrupulous in documenting the sources of his works, which frequently combined stylistic influences from several performers.
Early life
Handy was born in Florence, Alabama, to parents Elizabeth Brewer, and Charles Barnard Handy. His father was the pastor of a small church in Guntersville, a small town in northeast central Alabama. Handy wrote in his 1941 autobiography, Father of the Blues, that he was born in the log cabin built by his grandfather William Wise Handy, who became an African Methodist Episcopal (AME) minister after emancipation. The log cabin of Handy's birth has been saved and preserved near downtown Florence.
The Waterloo & City line is a tube line operated by London Underground. Crossing under the Thames, it runs between Waterloo and Bank stations with no intermediate stops. Its primary traffic is bringing commuters from south-western England arriving into Waterloo mainline station to the City of London. As a primarily commuter link it does not operate on Sundays or public holidays.
It was opened on 11 July 1898, having been built by the Waterloo & City Railway Company. Bank station was originally named "City". It was the second electric tube railway to open in London, after the City and South London Railway (now part of the Northern line). Owned and operated by two mainline rail companies before nationalisation into British Rail, it was transferred to London Underground in 1994 following a major refurbishment and stock replacement. Entirely underground aside from a shaft at its Waterloo depot, the line is not connected to any other rail route; rolling stock is removed for refurbishment using a road crane.
W.C. is an independent Irish Film, about two toilet attendants. The film premiered at the 2007 Dublin Film Festival and has screened at numerous other international film festivals worldwide, it won the best foreign film award at the 2009 Las Vegas film festival and best film at the Waterford film festival. The film was released theatrically in 2009.
A flush toilet is a toilet that disposes of human liquid and solid waste, by using water to flush it through a drainpipe to another location for disposal, thus maintaining a separation between humans and their excreta. Flush toilets can be designed for sitting (in which case they are also called "Western" toilets) or for squatting, in the case of squat toilets. The opposite of a flush toilet is a dry toilet which uses no water for flushing.
Flush toilets usually incorporate an "S", "U", "J", or "P" shaped bend that causes the water in the toilet bowl to collect and act as a seal against sewer gases. Since flush toilets are typically not designed to handle waste on site, their drain pipes must be connected to waste conveyance and waste treatment systems. When a toilet is flushed, the wastewater flows into a septic tank or sewage system and from there to a sewage treatment plant.
A flush toilet may be colloquially called a lavatory, a water closet (abbreviated W.C.), a loo, a comfort room (abbreviated "C.R.") and many other names.
Founded and currently led by Tim Berners-Lee, the consortium is made up of member organizations which maintain full-time staff for the purpose of working together in the development of standards for the World Wide Web. As of 4 November 2015, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has 408 members.
The W3C also engages in education and outreach, develops software and serves as an open forum for discussion about the Web.
The organization tries to foster compatibility and agreement among industry members in the adoption of new standards defined by the W3C. Incompatible versions of HTML are offered by different vendors, causing inconsistency in how web pages are displayed. The consortium tries to get all those vendors to implement a set of core principles and components which are chosen by the consortium.
The W810(available as the W810i and W810c) is a camera phone produced by Sony Ericsson. It was released in April 2006. It is the successor of the W800.
Features
The W810 is part of Sony Ericsson'sWalkman line of mobile phones. While being similar to the W800, the W810 has benefited from several improvements. Most notably are quad band connectivity, EDGE support for faster wireless data transfers, a light level sensor, a slightly enhanced display, but slightly reduced battery life.
Other features include a full function internet browser, twomegapixeldigital camera with auto-focus and flash, the HPM-70stereoheadset, Memory Stick PRO Duo slot, 20MB of internal memory, and a music-only mode where phone functions are fully turned off, which also allows the phone to be used as a Walkman in areas mobile phones would usually be barred from, such as airplanes and hospitals, in addition to providing longer battery-life. The phone supports MP3, AMR, MIDI, IMY, EMY, WAV (16 kHZ maximum sample rate) and AAC audio formats and MPEG-4 and 3GPP video formats. However WMA audio format is not supported.
