How does your body turns food into the poop? Human digestive system(Animation)|Dandelion Team
The digestive process starts in your mouth when you chew. Chewing breaks the food into pieces while saliva mixes with the food. Once you begin swallowing, the process becomes automatic. Muscles in your esophagus propel food down to your stomach. a Ringlike muscle—called the lower esophageal sphincter, relaxes and lets food pass into the stomach. The stomach produces enzymes and acids and stomach muscles mix food and liquid with digestive juices. Then The stomach slowly empties this semi-fluid composition called chyme into the first section of the small intestine called the duodenum..

Constructing an ecosan toilet -- A film from UNICEF
Ecological Sanitation is an important new approach to sanitation, which is truly sustainable. It uses almost no water in its operation, and human waste products are used as fertilizer. So three major objectives are achieved:
-- saving on water, a critically scarce resource
-- non-pollution of the environment by human waste, a major cause of disease and loss of human life
-- 'closing the nutrient cycle' : the nutrients (primarily Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, and carbon matter) in our excreta goes back into the soil for re-use by plants. Instead of a one-way process where chemicals are mined and used for each crop produced, the same chemicals are returned to the soil for reuse.

The Sanitation Economy: From human excreta to valuable resource | Jonathan Kampata | TEDxLusaka
Sanitation remains a major development issue, with the United Nations indicating that close to half of the world’s population (that is about 4 billion people) still lack access to safely managed sanitation. In this talk, Jonathan speaks about how resources can be generated from the abundant human excreta (faeces and urine), that are a waste product and a threat to human life, by seizing the business opportunities along the sanitation value chain. This includes producing valuable products such as nutrients and energy that can be recovered from the faeces and urine which can then be reused. Jonathan Kampata holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering and a master’s in water resources engineering.

He has 3 decades’ experience as a specialist in sanitation, water supply and water resources management. From 2017 to 2022, Jonathan led the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company, responsible for a US$665 million portfolio of water and sanitation projects that included water supply development, on-site sanitation, faecal sludge management and sewerage systems. Working with various partners, he led the utility in adopting City Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) and started a faecal sludge management intervention that constructed over 5,000 household toilets in some high-density, low-income communities in Lusaka. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
