Donnie Fritts (born November 8, 1942, Florence, Alabama) is an Americansession musician and songwriter. A recording artist in his own right, he has been Kris Kristofferson's keyboardist for over forty years as of 2013. In 2008, he was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. He began playing drums in local bands such as The Satellites and Hollis Dixon & the Keynotes at age 15, and later developed into a session keyboard player.
In 1965, Fritts signed with a Nashville publishing company. Songs which he wrote were recorded by Charlie Rich and Jerry Lee Lewis. He later met Kris Kristofferson who was just beginning a career in songwriting. When forming his band, Kristofferson called on Fritts, who continued as his keyboard player for over two decades, performing live, on recordings and in numerous movies.
Alabama was a Canadian band of the early 1970s. They had two songs that reached the top 100 in the RPM Magazinechart. "Song of Love" reached #26 in June 1973, and "Highway Driving" reached #42 in August. Band members were Buster Fykes, Hector McLean, Rick Knight, and Len Sembaluk.
The schooner Alabama was one of the last vessels built from the design of one of the most notable designers of Gloucester Fishing Schooners, Thomas F. McManus. Commissioned by the Mobile Bar Pilot Association of Mobile, Alabama, the vessel was built in Pensacola, Florida, launched in 1926, and originally called Alabamian until her predecessor the Bar Pilot Association's original Alabama was retired. Though the hull bore strong resemblance of McMannus' famous Gloucester fishing schooner designs, it served as a pilot boat stationed on the Mobile Bar until 1966.
In 1967 the schooner was bought by Captain Robert S. Douglas, master and designer of the Shenandoah, and moved to Vineyard Haven. There she sat on a mooring with minimal necessary upkeep until 1994. In the early nineties with a dwindling market for windjammer cruises which leave out most modern amenities kids became the new direction for the Coastwise Packet Company - the original name for what is now also The Black Dog Tall Ships. Because of the success of these "Kids Cruises" on board the Shenandoah, Alabama was to be rebuilt by the Five Corners Shipbuilding Company headed by Gary Maynard a former First Mate that sailed on the Shenandoah. Most of the work was done in Vineyard Haven with the vessel afloat on her mooring using Captain Douglas' own power tools and shop space. Any other work was done in Fairhaven, Massachusetts at D.N. Kelly's Shipyard.

Now a decade on the 55-year-old is celebrating having just undergone major reconstructive prosthetic treatments giving him back his nose, upper lip and palette, and teeth. Now Donnie has the confidence to go out in public with his wife again - and is looking forward to taking her out for dinner for the first time in nearly 10 years.
Donnie’s story will appear in a new series of Body Bizarre, which airs every Thursday at 9pm on TLC UK.

But sadly their joy was short-lived as Donnie developed a life-threatening infection. He battled back to health but was forced to wait for a new prosthetic. Sharon is determined to stand by the man she loves until a solution can be found. She said: "Donnie is an amazing man. He's so funny and has kept his sense of humor throughout. I still see the man I saw when we walked down the aisle." Donnie and Sharon's story will feature in an episode of new series Body Bizarre, titled Born With An Extra Body: Body Bizarre at 10pm on Monday November 25th.

The Man With A Hole In His Face: Body Bizarre Episode 2
SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj
Donnie Fritts is examined by doctors exploring the possibility of creating a new prosthetic face. A HUSBAND who was left with a gaping hole in his face after cancer has kissed his wife for the first time in 10 YEARS after undergoing a major reconstruction. Father-of-three Donnie Fritts was told by doctors in 2003 to make a devastating choice; lose his nose, mouth and cheek or lose his life after being diagnosed with an aggressive tumour. Given just a two per cent chance of surviving the op and desperate to try for wife Sharon, Donnie decided to have the ultra-rare cancer, called ameloblastic carcinoma, removed. But despite the 12-hour surgery being a success Donnie, a former carpenter, woke to discover the surgery had left him with a gaping HOLE in the middle of his face.

Donnie Fritts lying in bed in 2003 after surgery to remove part of his face due to aggressive face cancer. WHEN Sharon Fritts married her husband Donnie she promised to stick by him through thick and thin. But within a few years those vows were to be tested as Donnie developed an aggressive form of cancer on his face. In early 2003 Donnie was told by doctors to make a choice: his face or his life. He decided to have an operation that would remove the ultra-rare cancer—called ameloblastic carcinoma -- along with much of his face. The 12-hour surgery was a success but left Donnie, a former carpenter, with a gaping hole in the middle of his face. He no longer had a nose, upper lip and palate and part of his forehead was missing. There was some joy in 2011 as a top team of surgeons gave Donnie a prosthetic to make it look like he had a normal face.

'Undeniably Donnie' is both an essay and a toast to Donnie Fritts, the legendary songwriter from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, whose magnetic personality and devotion to his craft has attracted the likes of Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, and T-Bone Burnett. Though it's been a decade since his last release, Donnie has found himself in the studio again working with Grammy-winner John Paul White (The Civil Wars) as he steps into the center of the frame to share the craft he loves with old and new fans alike.

This November 20, 1997, clip of Donnie Fritts performing at the Muscle Shoals Songwriter Showcase hosted by Mickey Buckins & Jerry McGee is loaded with Muscle Shoals icons. David Hood, Roger Hawkins, Spooner Oldham, Mickey Buckins, Clayton Ivey, Will McFarlane & Dan Penn fill the stage with unbelievable talent. This is possibly the first video I shot of the Showcase & I'm fortunate that Mickey & Jerry saw some value in it and asked me to be a part of the weekly show from FIZZ in the old Holiday Inn in Sheffield, AL. Enjoy! @MuscleShoals7

- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
