Ukraine (i/juːˈkreɪn/; Ukrainian:Україна, tr.Ukraina[ukrɑˈjinɑ]) is a country in Eastern Europe, bordered by Russia to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland and Slovakia to the west, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively. It is currently in dispute with Russia over the Crimean peninsula which Russia annexed in 2014 but Ukraine and most of the international community still recognise as Ukrainian. Including Crimea, Ukraine has an area of 603,628km2 (233,062sqmi), making it the largest country entirely within Europe and the 46th largest country in the world, and a population of about 44.5 million, making it the 32nd most populous country in the world.
The territory of modern Ukraine has been inhabited since 32,000 BC. During the Middle Ages, the area was a key centre of East Slavic culture, with the powerful state of Kievan Rus' forming the basis of Ukrainian identity. Following its fragmentation in the 13th century, the territory was contested, ruled and divided by a variety of powers, including Lithuania, Poland, the Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, and Russia. A Cossack republic emerged and prospered during the 17th and 18th centuries, but its territory was eventually split between Poland and the Russian Empire, and later submerged fully into Russia. Two brief periods of independence occurred during the 20th century, once near the end of World War I and another during World War II, but both occasions would ultimately see Ukraine's territories conquered and consolidated into a Soviet republic, a situation that persisted until 1991, when Ukraine gained its independence from the Soviet Union in the aftermath of its dissolution at the end of the Cold War.
The wine industry of Ukraine is well-established with long traditions. Several brands of wine from Ukraine are exported to bordering countries, the European Union, and North America.
History
A wine culture existed in today's Ukraine. Wine cultivation is in the northern part of the country (around Kiev and Chernihiv), dating back to the 11th century. Since 2000 the production as well as the export of the wines increased rapidly.
Ukraine (sports society) is a physical culture and sports association of Ukraine.
History
At the end of eighties (1987) the former sports associations of trade unions "Avanhard", "Burevestnik", "Vodnik", "Zenit", "Kolos", "Lokomotiv", and "Spartak" were united into the All-Union volunteer physical culture and sports association of trade unions (VDFSTP). After several years "Kolos" has separated from it and in 1991 VDFSTP was reorganized into the sports association of trade unions "Ukraine".
Europe’s largest armed conflict since World War II is poised to enter a new phase in the coming weeks.
With no suggestion of a negotiated end to the 13 months of fighting between Russia and Ukraine, the Ukrainian forces could soon mount a spring counteroffensive.
Soldiers are now training to reform new brigades and learn how to use new weapons sent by allies.
In a deep forest around the capital Kyiv, a small platoon of 11 soldiers, is now training in assault tactics.

Ukraine prepares for counter-offensive holding military drills in south-east
Ukraine held military drills in an undisclosed location in southeastern Zaporizhzhia region on Friday (April 28).
The key goal of the training was to prepare soldiers for offensive actions, according to Ukraine’s military.
The war is coming to a crucial juncture after a months-long Russian winter offensive that gained little ground despite the bloodiest fighting so far. Kyiv is preparing a counteroffensive using hundreds of tanks and armoured vehicles sent by the West.

That’s why we say that for offensive combat you need a lot of artillery, you need heavy offensive weapons. You saw us running to the trench just now, imagine if the enemy was there, fortified and with machine guns. We would barely do something with our group. In any case, we would need an intense support of artillery, tanks, etc, etc. Only then, can an assault possibly be successful.”

“We have only seen one group today. Normally, in our unit some soldiers require more training, some less. Some people are better prepared. This specific group from today is still training, but whenever we need them to be ready - they will be ready.”

13. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Karat, Platoon commander of 1st Brigade “Bureviy” of the Ukrainian National Guard:
“It’s impossible to describe (the battle), you need to feel it yourself. When you’re scared, everything around you explodes, your comrades die or get injured… I don’t know how to describe it. It’s impossible to morally prepare for it, to be honest. But, I motivate myself like this: ‘If you don’t go to war, if you don’t kick the enemy out of your country, then what’s the point in living?'”
14. Various of soldiers training at target aiming with an old Soviet-era grenade launcher
15. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Mykola, Machine-gunner of 1st Brigade “Bureviy” of the Ukrainian National Guard:
“We really hope that we will have enough weapons. Weapons are the most important thing for us. We have enough will and motivation. But the weapons… Considering who our enemy is, what a country it is. They have a lot of weapons, they had the ‘arms race’ in the 20th century. Their entire country is like a gunpowder magazine.

In a deep forest around the capital Kyiv, a small platoon of 11 soldiers, is now training in assault tactics.
These men have all seen combat, as they previously took part in heavy battles to defend their country, including in the eastern city of Bakhmut.
They are part of a bigger brigade that is now one of the many being reformed after suffering heavy casualties, before being sent back to the front-lines.
“All the boys are motivated to kick the enemy out of our country and gain victory,” he said.

An outcrop of land that is just 25 miles long, six miles wide and covered in salt marshes could be the key to Ukraine's next offensive, according to experts in warfare strategy.
The Kinburn Peninsula is a hook-shaped outcrop of land at the mouth of the Dnipro Estuary which, if taken, could help Ukraine push the Russians out of Crimea.
