"Time Stands Still" is a song by American rock band The All-American Rejects, released as the third and final single from their self-titled debut studio album on July 14, 2003.
Background and composition
“Time Stands Still” was written by Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter. "It's about a chick, pretty much," Ritter explained, "It's pretty much about my ex-girlfriend and the ins and outs of the relationship. It's about me wishing that nothing would change from that honeymoon period, the first six or seven months," he said before adding, "For me, it's like three!”
"It's that time when nothing matters with your lady because it's all good," Ritter continued. "And nothing gets you down, nothing at all." Wheeler later said the composition of the song is "About 96-beats-per-minute and it's in the key of C major."
Reception
Critical reception
The song received mixed reviews from music critics. MTV compared the track to the band’s previous singles "Swing, Swing" and "The Last Song", saying it "focused more on the good times, before the bad ones arose". Sputnikmusic commented saying "[The acoustic guitar] disrupts the mood of the chorus and ultimately, the entire song. The bridge is a bit of a minor key and is pretty catchy which saves some of the song. The piano outro is decent, but it doesn't fit with the rest of the song and therefore sounds bad."
Time Stands Still is a play written by Donald Margulies and directed by Daniel J. Sullivan about changing relationships and developing social issues. It was nominated for two Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for Laura Linney.
Synopsis
Time Stands Still is set in Brooklyn and revolves around Sarah, a photo journalist who has returned from covering the Iraq war after being injured by a roadside bomb, and her reporter boyfriend James who is swamped by guilt after leaving Sarah alone in Iraq. They receive a visit from their friend Richard, a photo editor, who introduces them to his new girlfriend Mandy, who is much younger than he. The play focuses on their relationships and Sarah and James' prospects at a more conventional life.
Productions
Time Stands Still premiered in February 2009 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles and was the fourth collaboration for writer Donald Margulies and director Daniel J. Sullivan. It starred Anna Gunn as Sarah and David Harbour as James. Robin Thomas appeared as Richard, with Alicia Silverstone as Mandy. Margulies stated that the meaning of the play was "to capture a sense of the way we live now, to dramatize the things that thinking, feeling, moral people are thinking about and struggle with."The Los Angeles Times called it a "compelling if at times elusive drama" and praised Gunn's performance.
Karnataka were formed in 1997 by founding members, Ian Jones (bass/acoustic guitar), Jonathan Edwards (keyboards) and Rachel Jones (vocals). The band started as a project to record songs in Ian's home studio, that had been written and performed by Jonathan, Rachel and Ian in earlier bands. The project was augmented by additional musicians, Paul Davies (electric guitars) and Gavin Griffiths (drums), who had played with other members of Karnataka in earlier bands. At the end of the recording the decision was made to continue the project as a band. The name Karnataka was chosen by the band, from a suggestion by Ian, following his trips to that state of India.
Debut album
The five-piece recorded what would become their debut album, Karnataka in 1997. In the beginning, the band had no thought of actually releasing the album — they made the recording for their own pleasure. As they started to play live shows in their new configuration, however, word of mouth ensured that an increasing number of people started asking for copies.

3rd Plenum & After: Understanding the Economic, Political & Ideological Messaging for China & World
Abstract
The much-delayed Third Plenum of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was finally convened in July. Abstract
The much-delayed Third Plenum of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was finally convened in July. It adopted the decision to further comprehensively deepen reforms and promote Chinese-style modernisation. Traditionally, it is the Third Plenum that sets the economic policy agenda of the Chinese Party-state. In the context of the country’s economic downturn and the slow post-Covid recovery, the Plenum becomes very important in charting the future economic and political direction of the CPC. The Party’s leadership over the economy has been a contentious issue, with Xi Jinping seeking firm control since he came to power a decade ago. This panel will decipher the deliberations and deconstruct the decisions taken at the Plenum, and the economic and political implications for China – and the world.

Remember those talks on the lonely roads where we spilled our hearts while we headed home? It's because of those nights that we grew so close. I know our bond is stronger than most. The most profound things I've ever heard came from half-awake kids that never had their turn. And I felt the same way, so we could all relate with misfortune and what it takes out of ourselves. This has taken so much out of me. Fucking drained, running on empty. Stomach in knots, begging to be free. I drown it all out so I can finally breathe. And I'll ask myself, where will this road lead? Fell down and picked back up, destined for anything. And I'll ask myself, where will this road lead? I just need to know Where the fuck will we end up? Where will this road lead? Is this our destiny? Right now, time stands still.
