Sun Ra (born Herman Poole Blount, legal name Le Sony'r Ra; May 22, 1914 – May 30, 1993) was an American jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, poet and philosopher known for his experimental music, "cosmic philosophy," prolific output, and theatrical performances. He was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1979.
Born in Alabama in 1914, Blount would eventually become involved in the 1940s Chicago jazz scene. He soon abandoned his birth name, taking the name Sun Ra (Ra being the Egyptian God of the Sun) and developing a complex persona and mythology that would make him a pioneer of Afrofuturism: he claimed he was an alien from Saturn, and throughout his life, he consistently denied any ties to his prior identity. His compositions ranged from keyboard solos to big bands of over 30 musicians, and his widely experimental and eclectic music would eventually touch on virtually the entire history of jazz, from ragtime to swing music, from bebop to free jazz. From the mid-1950s to his death, Ra led "The Arkestra", an ensemble with an ever-changing name and flexible line-up (although certain core members remained with the group through its various incarnations, including Marshal Allen, John Gilmore, June Tyson). Its performances often included dancers and musicians dressed in elaborate, futuristic costumes inspired by ancient Egyptian attire and the space age.
"This Song" is the fourth track on George Harrison's 1976 album Thirty Three & 1/3. It was released as the first single from the album and reached number 25 on the American pop charts, although like all three singles from the album, it failed to chart in the UK.
"This Song" was written after the week Harrison spent in a New York courtroom, unsuccessfully trying to convince a judge that his 1970 song "My Sweet Lord" did not intentionally infringe the Chiffons' 1963 hit "He's So Fine". According to Harrison, the plaintiff got ridiculously in-depth, breaking "My Sweet Lord" down into several melody lines, or "motifs", as they referred to them. Apparently, the plaintiff also drew up several charts with large musical notes on it to prove their point. Harrison said in his autobiography, I, Me, Mine, that after several days, he "started to believe that maybe they did own those notes".
After he lost the case, Harrison wrote "This Song", which released his frustration of the infringement case in the form of an uptempo, piano-driven boogie. It features Billy Preston on piano and organ, and Monty Python's Eric Idle calling out a falsetto "Could be 'Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch' – No, sounds more like 'Rescue Me'!" interjection right before the instrumental break. The company Bright Tunes owned the copyright to He's So Fine, which inspired the line, "This tune has nothing Bright about it". Writing for Goldmine magazine in January 2002, Dave Thompson described "This Song" as "a brilliantly constructed commentary on Harrison's more recent travails".

Spaceee is the placeee... "Avant-garde jazz musician Sun Ra stars in the movie version of his concept album Space is the Place. Not following a linear plot line, this experimental film is a bizarre combination of social commentary, blaxploitation, science fiction, and concert performance. The opening scene is set in an intergalactic forest, with Sun Ra introducing his plan to use music as salvation for the black community. Back on Earth, he wears a disguise as Sunny Ray, a piano player in a 1940s Chicago strip club who causes an explosion with his sounds. Switching to a scene in a desert, he plays a card game called 'The End of the World,' with the Overseer (Ray Johnson), who is dressed in white and drives a white Cadillac. Sun Ra pulls out a spaceship card and the Arkestra play the song ...
Sun Ra was a big-band innovator, a pioneer of recording and playing with electronics, a poet, a cosmic philosopher, a bandleader and a keyboard innovator who claimed to be from Saturn. Herman Poole Blount would have turned 100 in 2014 had he not left us more than 20 years ago. But his spirit lives on, and so does his long-running band. On Halloween 2014, the Sun Ra Arkestra — complete with costumes inspired by Egyptian symbolism and science fiction — performed a rousing, out-of-this-world Tiny Desk Concert. The band was led by 91-year-old alto saxophonist Marshall Allen, who's been with the Arkestra since the early 1950s. All these years later, no one makes soul-stirring, spaced-out jazz quite like the Arkestra. SET LIST Along Came Ra/Zoom 0:23 Queer Notions 2:23 Angels And Demons At Pla...

Would you go outside?
Asked you to leave
I had enough of this ruckus
I wanna sleep
You say you're feeling lonely
I got to agree
I feel it coming slowly, slowly to me
Here comes, here comes the night train
And here comes, here comes the night train
Making a point in conversations
That I'll never hold
Protect myself from rumors
That I'll never be told
Choking on beauty
I usually don't even see
I'm living life through someone else
Looking at me
Here comes, here comes the night train
And here comes, here comes the night train
And here comes, here comes the night train
Now, all the evil thoughts I had
And all the harm I ever did
Stand right before me, eyes wide open
Where were they hidden?
I'm gonna rip it up
Bring it down, send it to hell
I hope somebody teach me something new
Somebody as guilty as me can break this spell
Here comes, here comes the night train
(Make it stop, oh, I can't make it stop)
Here comes, here comes the night train
(Make it stop, oh, I can't make it stop)
Here comes, here comes the night train
(Make it stop, oh, I can't make it stop, it's on again)
Get up, put up, open your eyes
Let the black blooded vein
Come to your brain
Angels 'round here don't sing
They have a curse upon me
(Make it stop, oh, I can't make it stop, it's on again)
Get up, put up, open your eyes
Let the black blooded vein
Come to your brain
Angels 'round here don't sing
They have a curse upon me
(Make it stop, oh, I can't make it stop, it's on again)
Get up, put up, open your eyes
Let the black blooded vein
Come to your brain
Angels 'round here don't sing
They have a curse upon me
(Just make it stop, oh, I can't make it stop, it's on again)
Get up, put up, open your eyes
Let the black blooded vein
Come to your brain
Angels 'round here don't sing
They have a curse upon me
(Make it stop, oh, I can't make it stop, it's on again)
The shame, the lovers
The tricks, the blessings
The rebound, the future is used
It feels like you used it up
I look at you, I pity you
I dream of you, what are you?
Drop a name, leave it there
Bruise a heart, leave it there
Pay the entrance, leave it there
Get some style, cut your hair
Shouldn't be this, shouldn't be that
Take the heat, take a free kick, man
Try to get a grip on these times
'Cause the harder that I chase
The harder you're running
You don't have to be
