Slim Smith (born Keith Smith, 1948, Kingston, Jamaica, died 1973) was a ska, rocksteady and reggae singer. In their book Reggae: The Rough Guide (1997), Steve Barrow and Peter Dalton described Smith as "the greatest vocalist to emerge in the rocksteady era".
Biography
Smith first came to prominence as a member of the Victors Youth Band, who were highly praised at the 1964 Jamaican Festival. He subsequently became a founding member and lead vocalist of The Techniques, who recorded primarily with Duke Reid for his Treasure Isle label. In 1964 they recorded several songs for Byron Lee, two of which, "Don't Do It" and "No One", were included on the The Real Jamaica Ska LP released by Epic Records and co-produced by Curtis Mayfield. After the Techniques disbanded in 1965, he formed The Uniques, who released a handful of singles including the R&B influenced "Do Me Good" released on Ken Lack's Caltone records in 1966.
In 1969 Slim Smith commenced recording for Prince Buster and Coxsone Dodd's Studio One label, the main rival to Duke Reid. His Studio One recordings brilliantly highlight his passionate, soulful voice, which had an almost manic edge, and confirm him as one of Jamaica's greatest singers. His hits from this period include "The New Boss", "Hip Hug" and "Rougher Yet", many of which were later compiled for the album Born To Love. In 1967 he formed a new version of The Uniques, and commenced his association with producer Bunny Lee. They topped the Jamaican hit parade with "Let Me Go Girl", but after recording one album, Absolutely The Uniques, Smith left the group, staying with Lee to concentrate on a solo career.
Chuck Darling (Grammer) and Kelly Carr (Heaton) were co-anchors of Pittsburgh news program WURG News 9 that had great on-screen chemistry, despite constant quarreling off-screen. However, Chuck left to take a job elsewhere. After an embarrassing comment he makes results in his dismissal from a large market LA newscast, Chuck returns to Pittsburgh after 10 years to become anchor on the newscast he originally left. Chuck also learns that he is the father of Carr's 10-year-old daughter. Their daughter, Gracie, turns 11 years old in the episode, "Something's Up There".
Cast and characters
Chuck Darling (Kelsey Grammer) is the co-anchor at WURG-TV, News 9, and also the former co-anchor of WURG until New Year's Eve 1996, until he left for a better job, moving through different markets before finally moving to an anchor job in Los Angeles. Ten years later, he made a curse-filled outburst towards a co-worker, Darcy Tanner, which became a massive YouTube sensation. He has now returned to WURG-TV and is once again co-anchor with Kelly Carr. He later finds out he has a child with Kelly named Gracie, a result of a one-night stand the night before Chuck left. He and Gracie get along well, and despite the fact that Gracie is oblivious to his paternity, it seems that Chuck has passed on some of his personality traits to his daughter, which include their mutual dislike for Kelly. He was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut.
"New Boss" is the twentieth episode of the fifth season of the television series The Office, and the 92nd overall episode of the series. It originally aired on NBC in the United States on March 19, 2009. In the episode, Michael Scott is disturbed by the arrival of his new no-nonsense superior Charles Miner, played by The Wire star Idris Elba, making his first of six slated guest appearances with The Office. Meanwhile, Jim struggles to make a good impression on Charles, and Angela and Kelly both develop crushes on their new boss.
The episode was written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, and directed by Paul Feig. It received generally positive reviews from television critics, particularly for the twist of Michael's resignation, which multiple reviewers said added a fresh new change to the series. According to Nielsen ratings, "New Boss" was watched by 7.95 million overall viewers in its original airing.
Plot
Michael (Steve Carell) wants to throw a party to celebrate his fifteenth anniversary working at Dunder Mifflin. He becomes unnerved when Charles Miner (Idris Elba), the new company vice president, exhibits a no-nonsense attitude towards him, making Michael not feel like his own boss. Charles seems to establish a good relationship with the rest of the staff; he buys everyone lunch and reveals the truth about their 401(k) plans and the possibility of layoffs, which Michael withheld so as not to worry the staff. Taking advice from Chief Financial Officer David Wallace (Andrew Buckley), Michael tries to become better acquainted with Charles, but is unsuccessful. Michael attempts to contact Wallace on the phone, one attempt leading to getting transferred to Charles. When Charles catches the Party Planning Committee planning Michael's party during office hours, he dissolves the committee and cancels Michael's party. Michael decides to drive to New York to talk to Wallace.

People are talking, they say I'm down
Won't someone please tell them for me
They just can't see that someone like me
Ooh, was born to be the boss and the king
Of everything
I'll be progressing all along the way
I'll be riding high, reaching the sky
I've been terrorized and I've been brutalized
I've been pushed around, I've been lost and found
Well, I guess someone may try to even tell a lie
They'd better be aware I've got something there
If there's another I'll soon discover
And know what to do
If they are so untrue they will be so blue
Even in talking they have no sense
Won't someone please tell them for me "get help"
Because even the trees and the birds that sing
Above the ground, they know that I'm around
One more thing, and someone like me was born to be

Do you know where you're going? Do you know where you've been? Is this simple, is this simple? The chances seemed so slim In a cloud, is it cloudy? You've clouded up again Your perception, your decision Your decision Behind, I'm left behind Oh, I'm left behind, I'm left behind It's a matter of time Your protection from ejection My rejection Protection from a slide Projection from a slide Did it all seem so easy? So easy to concede Giving in, giving in The chances seemed so slim In a moment, just a moment Oh, I felt you rushing in You were rushing, I am crushing Your rush to cruise this time Oh, I'm left behind Left behind, I'm left behind It's a matter of time Your protection from injection My rejection Protection from a slide Projection from a slide And I with your breath on my pillow And I with the memory Do I get to wait it out never put it away? When you left with your death I felt empty when I looked back On my pillow, what you used to say? What you used to say? Behind, I'm left behind Behind, I'm left behind Left behind I with your breath on my pillow I with the memory, I get to wait It out never put it away When you're left with your death I felt anger when I looked back On my pillow what you used to say? What you used to say? And I felt your breath for a moment And I heard your voice for a moment Then I looked back On my pillow what you used to say? What we used to say? The chances seemed so slim The chances used to be so slim Now, I swim alone, the slim alone The slim alone, the slim alone To honor and obey To cherish and to worship In sickness and in health For richer, for poorer, for anything
