James Edward Burrows (born December 30, 1940), sometimes known as Jim Burrows, is an American television director who has been working in television since the 1970s. Burrows has directed over 50 television pilots and co-created the long running television series Cheers.
Early life
Burrows was born to a Jewish family in Los Angeles, California, the son of Ruth (Levinson) and Abe Burrows, who was a well-known composer, director and writer. James has one sister, Laurie Burrows Grad. When James was still a young child, his family moved to New York where James attended New York’s High School of Music & Arts. Burrows is a graduate of Oberlin College and the graduate program of the Yale School of Drama.
Career
Early Career
After Yale, Burrows returned to California where he became employed as a dialogue coach on O.K. Crackerby!, a television show starring Burl Ives and created by Burrow's father, Abe. Burrows then took a job as an assistant stage manager on the play Holly Golightly, an adaptation of the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's. The production was unsuccessful, but the job served as Burrows' introduction to its star, Mary Tyler Moore. Early on Burrows also worked for the road company of "Cactus Flower" and the Broadway production of "Forty Carats."
James Thomas Burrows (13 July 1904–10 June 1991) was a New Zealand teacher, sportsman, administrator, and military leader. He was born in Prebbleton, North Canterbury, New Zealand on 13 July 1904. Following his education at Christchurch Boys' High School, he became a teacher.
As a rugby player, Burrows represented Canterbury in 1923 and from 1925 to 1930. In 1928 he was selected for the first All Black team to tour South Africa. He was sole selector and coach of the Canterbury team from 1932 to 1933, and manager–coach for the All Blacks in their 1937 test series against South Africa.
Burrows is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1957, and formally came into existence in the provincial election of 1958. The riding is located in the northern part of Winnipeg.
Burrows is named after Theodore Arthur Burrows, who served as Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba from 1926 to 1929. It is bordered to the east by St. Johns and Point Douglas, to the south by Wellington, to the north by Kildonan and The Maples, and to the west by Inkster. The riding's boundaries were significantly redrawn in 1999, taking in a considerable amount of territory which was previously a part of Inkster.
The riding's population in 1996 was 18,718. In 1999, the average family income was $35,575, one of the lowest rates in the province. Thirty-nine per cent of the riding's residents are listed as low-income, with an unemployment rate of 13%. One household in four has only one parent. Nineteen per cent of the riding's residents are over sixty-five years of age.
"The crew hasn't changed. The cast is the same. And Jimmy is always at the helm."
"I get the advantage of getting the best writing, ... Most people send me their scripts, so it's pretty easy to pick the best writing."
"It makes my actors feel like they're creating and not just parroting the writer's words, ... So if you can get an actor to feel like he's part of the creative process, you'll get them to perform a lot better for you."

Rob Burrow: Living with MND - BBC Documentary
Rob Burrow, one of Rugby League’s greatest players, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in late 2019. His family now care for his every need 24 hours a day. This intimate documentary starkly illustrates the love, support and challenges faced by his wife Lindsey, children Macy, Maya and Jackson, and parents Geoff and Irene.
There are moments of intimacy as Lindsey takes Rob for a swim or carries him up to bed, and there are moments of humour as Rob uses his voice box to tease his mum as she feeds him. Rob is seen discussing his treatment with the NHS staff caring for him while best friend and former teammate mate Kevin Sinfield continues to rally support in Leeds, the home of Leeds Rhinos, and from the wider rugby league community.
#AnimalsThatBurrowUnderground
There are three types of burrowing animals: primary excavators, which dig their own burrows (think prairie dogs); secondary modifiers, which live inside burrows made by other animals and might modify them to suit their needs; and simple occupants, which just occupy abandoned burrows and don't modify them. The following are some of the most interesting animals that use burrows as a home, for protection, to lay their eggs, or for other unexpected purposes.
