John Christopher "Johnny" Depp II (born June 9, 1963) is an American actor, producer, and musician. He has won the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor. He rose to prominence on the 1980s television series 21 Jump Street, becoming a teen idol.
Since then, Depp has taken on challenging and "larger-than-life" roles, starting with a supporting role in Oliver Stone's Vietnam War film Platoon in 1986, then playing the title character in the romantic dark fantasy Edward Scissorhands (1990). He later found box office success in the fantasy adventure film Sleepy Hollow (1999), the fantasy swashbuckler film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) and its sequels, the musical adventure film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), the fantasy film Alice in Wonderland (2010) and voicing the title character in the animated action comedy western Rango (2011). He has collaborated on eight films with director and friend Tim Burton.
The Joker is a fictional supervillain created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson that first appeared in the debut issue of the comic bookBatman (April 25, 1940) published by DC Comics. Credit for the Joker's creation is disputed; Kane and Robinson claimed responsibility for the Joker's design, while acknowledging Finger's writing contribution. Although the Joker was planned to be killed off during his initial appearance, he was spared by editorial intervention, allowing the character to endure as the archenemy of the superhero Batman.
In his comic book appearances, the Joker is portrayed as a criminal mastermind. Introduced as a psychopath with a warped, sadistic sense of humor, the character became a goofy prankster in the late 1950s in response to regulation by the Comics Code Authority, before returning to his darker roots during the early 1970s. As Batman's nemesis, the Joker has been part of the superhero's defining stories, including the murder of Jason Todd—the second Robin and Batman's ward—and the paralysis of one of Batman's allies, Barbara Gordon. The Joker has had various possible origin stories during his decades of appearances. The most common story involves him falling into a tank of chemical waste which bleaches his skin white, turns his hair green, and his lips bright red; the resulting disfigurement drives him insane. The antithesis of Batman in personality and appearance, the Joker is considered by critics to be his perfect adversary.
Joker is designed by Alan Schilke and will be built by Rocky Mountain Construction. This will be Rocky Mountain Construction's first coaster themed to a superhero or villain. The wooden Roar had been constructed by Great Coasters International and opened on May 14, 1999.
History
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom announced in July 2015, that they would be closing their wooden roller coaster, Roar, giving riders about a month to get their last ride in, before closing on August 16, 2015. On September 3, 2015 Six Flags announced that they will be revamping the wooden coaster, Roar, into a steel track coaster, to be called The Joker. The renovation would be performed by Rocky Mountain Construction and would feature the I-Box steel track on all of the original wooden coaster supports, Joker-themed trains, and three inversions including the first ever ever step-up under-flip inversion. The new ride will open for the 2016 season.
Joker was known as Tony Hawk's Big Spin when it first opened on May 23, 2008. The coaster offered a full "extreme sports" experience, with monitors in the queue lines displaying highlights of the history of action sports and a large spinning Tony Hawk figure crowning the ride. The coaster was named after the skateboarding trick of the same name, which is a body varial with the skateboard rotating fully once, or 360 degrees.
In late 2010, Six Flags began the process of cancelling licensed intellectual property deals they had with various brands including Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk's Big Spin at Discovery Kingdom and others like it were originally renamed to Big Spin before being renamed and rethemed to Pandemonium.
After January 1, 2012 (the end of the 2011 season at Discovery Kingdom), Pandemonium at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom was closed to be removed to make room for the park's newest coaster Superman: Ultimate Flight for the 2012 season. Days after January 1, Pandemonium started to be removed and then towards the end of January 2012, Pandemonium was completely removed from the site where the coaster was located. By March 2012, Pandemonium traveled to the Roller Coaster Museum in Plainview, Texas before being sent to Six Flags México in Mexico City before to operate in 2013.

Warner Bros and DC are in the early stages of another Batman Universe spinoff movie, this one telling the origin story of the signature villain The Joker. The studio has set The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips to co-write a script with 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, and Martin Scorsese will produce it with Phillips. This will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters.
I’m told that the intention is to make an origin story that isn’t part of any other iteration. The Joker has memorably been part of two Batman movies in the form of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, and was most recently played by Jared Leto in the first Suicide Squad film. He will reprise in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff, but this new film will launch the character with a different actor, possibly younger.
An intriguing part is the setting. The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy. I’m told that Phillips and Silver are writing already, but there is nothing firm on where this will fit into the DC schedule.
Joaquin Phoenix may soon have to don a green wig and white face-paint to play Batman's greatest adversary. The American actor is reportedly in talks to star in a new film about the Joker, produced by Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese.
Although the 42-year-old's casting has not yet been confirmed, Variety reports that Phoenix has been approached, and has agreed to play the role.
Last year, it was reported that producers hoped for the as-yet-untitled film to be "a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-Eighties Gotham City", with a similar tone to Scorsese's most acclaimed Eighties movies, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.
Further details about Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese’s upcoming origin movie about The Joker have emerged, with the film set to reportedly depict the villain as a failed stand-up comic.
Phillips will direct the new DC and Warner Bros.-made film, with Scorsese acting as an executive producer. Joaquin Phoenix is the current favourite to play the titular villain, although Leonardo DiCaprio has also been linked to the famous role, as well as Willem Dafoe, many fans have suggested him as a possible actor to one day step into the iconic purple suit of The Joker.
A new report from The Wrap has apparently shed light on some more details surrounding the forthcoming film, with Phillips set to depict Batman’s enemy as a failed 1980s stand-up comic “who becomes the clown prince of crime after bombing with audiences”.
This take on The Joker has origins in the 1988 DC graphic novel The Killing Joke, which was written by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland.
