Edward "Sonny" Stitt (born Edward Boatner, Jr.; February 2, 1924 – July 22, 1982) was an American jazz saxophonist of the bebop/hard bop idiom. He was one of the best-documented saxophonists of his generation, recording over 100 albums. He was nicknamed the "Lone Wolf" by jazz critic Dan Morgenstern, in reference to his relentless touring and devotion to jazz.
Edward Boatner, Jr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. He had a musical background; his father, Edward Boatner, was a baritone singer, composer and college music professor, his brother was a classically trained pianist, and his mother was a piano teacher.
Sonny was given up for adoption in 1924 by his father. No one seems to know why Boatner gave his son away, but the child was adopted by the Stitts family, who raised him in Saginaw, Michigan. He later began calling himself "Sonny". While in high school in Saginaw, Stitt played in the Len Francke Band, a local popular swing band.
Sonny Stitt is an eponymous album by saxophonist Sonny Stitt recorded in Chicago in 1958 and originally released on the Argo label.
The Allmusic review stated "Stitt, doubling on alto and tenor, plays some songs with unfamiliar titles, but all of the chord changes of the originals (half of them blues) are fairly basic. He is in above-average form, making this CD reissue of interest to bebop collectors".
All compositions by Sonny Stitt except as indicated
"The Gypsy" is a popular song written by Billy Reid, and published in 1945. The ballad tells the story of a person who visits a Gypsy fortune teller and is reassured that their partner is faithful. Though they both know it to be untrue, the narrator resolves to return, "'Cause I want to believe the Gypsy".
"The Gypsy" was originally introduced in the United Kingdom by Reid's orchestra and vocalist Dorothy Squires. In the United States, the song was recorded by Bill Kenny & The Ink Spots, Dinah Shore, and Sammy Kaye's orchestra, becoming a hit for all three.
The Gypsy (French: Le Gitan, Italian: Lo zingaro) is a 1975 French-Italian crime-drama film written and directed by José Giovanni. It is based on Giovanni's novel Histoire de fou.
It recorded admissions of 1,788,111 in France.
The Gypsy is a 1992 urban fantasy novel written by Megan Lindholm and Steven Brust. It blends elements of Hungarian folk tales with a modern-day detective story. The book contains many lyrics to songs that were later recorded to an album called Songs from The Gypsy by Boiled in Lead.
The first edition was a hardcover issued by Tor Books in July 1992. At least two softcover editions have been issued since: a mass market paperback by Tor Books in July 1993 and a trade paperback edition by Orb Books in April 2005. A French translation La nuit du prédateur was published by Mnémos in April 2006.
Songs from The Gypsy is an album by Boiled in Lead. The songs were later incorporated into the novel The Gypsy, despite the date of the recording. The album was originally released on June 21, 1995, in a special enhanced CD format that included the whole text of the book and extra features such as sound clips.

I'm just a gypsy who gets paid
For all the songs that I have played
And all the records that I have made
I'm part of a caravan
I have travelled on the land
Making music for my fellow man
And every song I played or wrote
With a sad or happy note
Some are made to make you laugh
Some are made to make you cry
I don't know the reason why
But I'll continue to travel
Though my guitar's old and tiring fast
She just listens to me
Her music means more to me than any other woman I have known
She just listens to me
Her music means more to me than any other woman I have known
And I'll continue to travel though my guitar's old and tiring fast
She just listens to me
Her music means more to me than any other woman I have known
She just listens to me
Her music means more to me than any other woman I have known
