'Shameful': Sir Lindsay Hoyle heckled for breaking precedent with Labour Gaza amendments
Sir Lindsay Hoyle faced cries of “shameful” and “bring back Bercow” as he explained his reasoning for selecting both the Labour and the Government Gaza amendments.
The Commons Speaker said: “I can inform the House that there is a precedent for an official opposition spokesperson being called second in the debate and move an amendment before a minister was called to speak in the debate in the circumstances.”
Hoyle said Labour’s amendment will be voted on first, followed by the SNP motion and then the Government’s amendment.

What just happened? | Commons chaos analysed by Andrew Marr and Natasha Clark
As SNP and Tory MPs walk out and MPs vote on a private session for the first time in decades, LBC's political editor Natasha Clark and Andrew Marr run down events ahead of the Parliamentary vote on a ceasefire.
The Speaker of the House of Commons has apologised to MPs after he accepted amendments from the Government, the SNP and Labour Party, in an unprecedented move.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle told MPs this evening that today's debate was "exceptional in its intensity with which all parties wished to secure a vote on their own propositions".
He said he accepted all three amendments in an attempt to reflect "the widest range of propositions on which to express a view" and also because he had become "very, very concerned about the security of all members".

Sir Lindsay Hoyle was forced to apologise to MPs, saying: “It was never my intention for it to end up like this” , after his decision to allow amendments by both Labour and the Conservatives to be debated as part of a Gaza ceasefire vote.
He still faces a potential challenge to his position, with the Scottish National Party (SNP)’s Westminster leader suggesting he should go, and some backbench Tory MPs collecting signatories for a motion of no confidence.
The row led to MPs storming out the chamber.

MP shouts "Bring back Bercow" at Sir Lindsay Hoyle during Gaza debate
A potential Labour rebellion over the calling of a ceasefire in Gaza may have been defused after Sir Keir Starmer was thrown a lifeline by the Commons Speaker.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle allowed amendments from Labour and the government to be voted on in an unusual move that caused uproar in the Commons on Wednesday afternoon, with one MP shouting: “Bring back Bercow!”, a reference to Hoyle’s predecessor, John Bercow.
The decision to allow Labour’s amendment means the party’s MPs, who might have been tempted to back a Scottish National Party (SNP) motion, will be able to back a ceasefire without rebelling — a move that could have caused difficulty for Starmer.

But Sir Lindsay went on to admit that what he intended had not happened and said he recognised the "strength of feelings of members on this issue".
He then promised to meet with the "key players" of each major party after apologising multiple times.
It then emerged that the Labour Party's amendment to the SNP's motion calling for a ceasefire in Gaza was approved by MPs.

Rishi Sunak leaving D-day early was 'very wrong' says Penny Mordaunt during TV debate
To kick off the BBC's live seven-party election debate, a question from the public was on Rishi Sunak's absence at the D-day event in France where international leaders came together.

Penny Mordaunt brutally responds to Angela Rayner in Commons over donations claims

Penny Mordaunt struck a bullish tone in the Commons, describing allegations raised by opposition MPs as based on “speculation, innuendo and smear” rather than fact.
Labour’s deputy leader, Angela Rayner, who secured an urgent question on ministerial interests, had accused Government ministers of acting “like rules are for other people” and levelled claims against Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Home Secretary Priti Patel and Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
Ms Mordaunt said the public do have an interest in the issue of standards in public life but view criticisms raised in the Commons during the urgent question “as a load of flannel”.

Conservative minister delivers spoof speech packed full of innuendos after losing a bet with Royal Navy officer friends
It has been revealed that Penny Mordaunt, who is a Royal Navy reservist as well as Conservative communities minister, made a spoof speech to the House of Commons.
Ms Mordaunt, 41, used the word "c**k" six times and "lay" or "laid" five times during an address to Parliament on March 26, 2013.
Ostensibly the speech was delivered to highlight issues around the welfare of chickens, however Ms Mordaunt - who was made a minister in the communities department after she delivered the speech - has now disclosed that the real reason for making her address was a forfeit issued during a dinner in the officers' mess.
The MP for Portsmouth North said: "Some of my Marine training officers in Dartmouth thought it would be a good idea to break my ladylike persona by getting me to yell particularly rude words during the most gruelling part of our training.
"They failed but during our mess dinner at the end of the course, I was fined for a misdemeanour. The fine was to say a particular word, an abbreviation of cockerel, several times during a speech on the floor of the Commons, and mention all the names of the officers present."
While she fulfilled the wager, she has been criticised by Labour MPs for making a mockery of the Parliamentary system.

Penny Mordaunt attacked the SNP's record in Scotland to a mock version of the carol The Twelve Days of Christmas.
After being asked about "morality" by the SNP, the Commons Leader told MPs: "I think we should have a festive round of up on SNP morality: 12 hours of police questioning, 11 grand roaming charges, 10 years without school inspections, nine sham embassies, eight years of poor child mental health, seven years without ferries, six years shirking welfare powers."
To the tune of "five gold rings", she added: "£500 million over-spent on Edinburgh's tram.
"£4 million to install a heat pump, three high profile arrests, two overseas jollies, and a dodgy jaguar EV."
Addressing SNP Commons leader Deidre Brock, Ms Mordaunt added: "I thank her. I have succeeded in bringing a smile to her face and I must thank her for being the gift that keeps on giving at business questions. I hope that in 2024 better things are destined for the Scottish people."
