Penny Mordaunt brutally responds to Angela Rayner in Commons over donations claims
#PennyMordaunt #AngelaRayner
Penny Mordaunt struck a bullish tone in the Commons, describing allegations raised by opposition MPs as based on “speculation, innuendo and smear” rather than fact.
Labour’s deputy leader, Angela Rayner, who secured an urgent question on ministerial interests, had accused Government ministers of acting “like rules are for other people” and levelled claims against Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Home Secretary Priti Patel and Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
Ms Mordaunt said the public do have an interest in the issue of standards in public life but view criticisms raised in the Commons during the urgent question “as a load of flannel”.

Penny Mordaunt does SNP version of 12 Days of Christmas
Penny Mordaunt attacked the SNP's record in Scotland to a mock version of the carol The Twelve Days of Christmas.
After being asked about "morality" by the SNP, the Commons Leader told MPs: "I think we should have a festive round of up on SNP morality: 12 hours of police questioning, 11 grand roaming charges, 10 years without school inspections, nine sham embassies, eight years of poor child mental health, seven years without ferries, six years shirking welfare powers."
To the tune of "five gold rings", she added: "£500 million over-spent on Edinburgh's tram.
"£4 million to install a heat pump, three high profile arrests, two overseas jollies, and a dodgy jaguar EV."
Addressing SNP Commons leader Deidre Brock, Ms Mordaunt added: "I thank her. I have succeeded in bringing a smile to her...

Conservative minister delivers spoof speech packed full of innuendos after losing a bet with Royal Navy officer friends
It has been revealed that Penny Mordaunt, who is a Royal Navy reservist as well as Conservative communities minister, made a spoof speech to the House of Commons.
Ms Mordaunt, 41, used the word "c**k" six times and "lay" or "laid" five times during an address to Parliament on March 26, 2013.
Ostensibly the speech was delivered to highlight issues around the welfare of chickens, however Ms Mordaunt - who was made a minister in the communities department after she delivered the speech - has now disclosed that the real reason for making her address was a forfeit issued during a dinner in the officers' mess.
The MP for Portsmouth North said: "Some of my Marine training officers in Dartmouth thought it would be a good idea to break my ladylike persona by getting me to yell particularly rude words during the most gruelling part of our training.
"They failed but during our mess dinner at the end of the course, I was fined for a misdemeanour. The fine was to say a particular word, an abbreviation of cockerel, several times during a speech on the floor of the Commons, and mention all the names of the officers present."
While she fulfilled the wager, she has been criticised by Labour MPs for making a mockery of the Parliamentary system.

I have succeeded in bringing a smile to her face and I must thank her for being the gift that keeps on giving at business questions. I hope that in 2024 better things are destined for the Scottish people."
