Seneca Nation of New York
The Seneca Nation of New York, also known as the Seneca Nation of Indians (Salamanca), is a federally recognized tribe of Seneca people in New York. The tribe has two alternating capitals: one in Irving, New York on the Cattaraugus Reservation, and the other in Jimerson Town near Salamanca on the Allegany Indian Reservation. It is one of two federally recognized Seneca tribes in New York. The other is the much smaller Tonawanda Band of Seneca Indians, which broke off from the Seneca Nation in 1857.
Seneca people also make up part of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation, located in Oklahoma. They are descendants of Iroquois and Mingo who had migrated from New York to Ohio before the American Revolutionary War, and were relocated from there to Indian Territory in the nineteenth century.
Government
The tribe was established in 1848 by a Constitutional Convention of Seneca people residing on the Allegany and Cattaragus Territories in present-day New York. The Seneca Nation of Indians Constitution established a tri-partite governing structure based on general elections of 16 Councilors, three Executives (President, Treasurer, Clerk), and Court justices (Surrogates and Peacemakers). These elections are held every two years, concurrent with Election Day in the rest of the United States. The leadership rotates between the two reservations each election, and no officer can serve consecutive terms because of this. There are no other term limits, and elected officers can serve numerous nonconsecutive terms.

In the 21st century, more than 10,000 Seneca live in the United States, which has three federally recognized Seneca tribes. Two are in New York: the Seneca Nation of New York, with two reservations in western New York near Buffalo, and the Tonawanda Band of Seneca Native Americans. The Seneca-Cayuga Nation is located in Oklahoma, where their ancestors were relocated from Ohio during Indian Removal. Approximately 1,000 Seneca live in Canada, near Brantford, Ontario, at the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation. They are descendants of Seneca who resettled there after the American Revolution, as they had been allies of the British and forced to cede much of their lands.
Name
The Seneca nation's own name () is Onöndowága, meaning "Great Hill Place." It is identical to the endonym used by the Onondaga people. At the time of formation of the Haudenosaunee, they lived as the farthest west of the five nations within the league. They were referred to as the Keepers of the Western Door. Other nations called them Seneca after their principal village of Osininka. Since "Osininka" sounds like the Anishinaabe word Asinikaa(n), meaning "Those at the Place Full of Stones", this gave rise to further confusion. Non-Haudenosaunee nations confused the Seneca nation's name with that of the Oneida nation's endonym Onyota'a:ka, meaning "People of the Standing Stone." Oas-in-in Ka (Seneca) means "Stone Place."

New York (Glee)
"New York" is the twenty-second episode and season finale of the second season of the American musical television series Glee, and the forty-fourth overall. The episode was written and directed by series creator Brad Falchuk, filmed in part on location in New York City, and first aired on May 24, 2011 on Fox in the United States. John Foxx
John Foxx (born Dennis Leigh, 26 September 1948) is an English singer, artist, photographer and teacher. He was the original lead singer of the band Ultravox, before leaving to embark on a solo career (with Midge Ure eventually taking his place in Ultravox). Primarily associated with electronic synthesizer music, he has also pursued a parallel career in graphic design and education.
Allmusic noted that Foxx "was one of those cult figures known more through the recordings of others rather than those of his own making. His detached, jolting vocal style inspired mainstream and underground artists across the decades, from synth pop superstar Gary Numan to electro-techno duo Adult".
Early life and education
Leigh was born in Chorley, Lancashire, England. His father was a coal miner and pugilist, his mother a millworker. He attended St Mary's Primary and St Augustine's Secondary schools. During his youth in the 1960s he embraced the lifestyle of a mod and a hippy. He experimented with tape recorders and synthesisers while on a scholarship at the Royal College of Art in London.

If you’ve been to New York, you’ve probably visited Central Park. But there’s a part of its story you won't see.
It’s a story that goes back to the 1820s, when that part of New York was largely open countryside. Soon it became home to about 1,600 people. Among them was a predominantly black community that bought up affordable plots to build homes, churches and a school. It became known as Seneca Village. And when Irish and German immigrants moved in, it became a rare example at the time of an integrated neighborhood.

Our statewide advocacy and educational campaign seeks to achieve justice by polishing the chain of friendship established in the first treaty between the Haudenosaunee and Dutch immigrants. Environmental cleanup and preservation are the core components of our campaign.With a proud and rich history, the Seneca were the largest of six Native American nations which comprised the Iroquois Confederacy or Six Nations, a democratic government that pre-dates the United States Constitution. The Seneca People are a group of Indigenous Iroquoian-speaking people from North America (Turtle Island), who historically, lived south of Lake Ontario. They were the Nation located farthest to the west within the Six Nations or, Iroquois League (Haudenosaunee) in New York, before the American Revolution.
In the 21st century, more than 10,000 Seneca people live in the United States, which has three federally recognized Seneca tribes.
Two are in New York: the Seneca Nation of New York, with two reservations in western New York near Buffalo and the Tonawanda Band of Seneca Indigenous Americans.
The Seneca-Cayuga Nation is located in Oklahoma, where their ancestors were relocated from Ohio, during “Indian Removal”.
Approximately 1,000 Seneca people live in Canada, near Brantford, Ontario, at the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation.

The mission of the Allegany Language Department, Ögwaiwanösde’ Ögwawënö’—we cherish our language, is to promote conversational Seneca language use at the Seneca Nation. To increase the use of the Seneca language throughout the Nation, the department works with fluent/highly proficient speakers to train apprentices for long-term, professional positions, as conversational Seneca language teachers for early childhood, community, departmental, school-district, and/or college level Seneca language and culture classes. Apprentices shall train to work as revitalization, documentation, translation, and resource development specialists. If you’ve been to New York, you’ve probably visited Central Park. But there’s a part of its story you won't see.
It’s a story that goes back to the 1820s, when that part of New York was largely open countryside. Soon it became home to about 1,600 people. Among them was a predominantly black community that bought up affordable plots to build homes, churches and a school. It became known as Seneca Village. And when Irish and German immigrants moved in, it became a rare example at the time of an integrated neighborhood.
Everything changed on July 21, 1853. New York took control of the land to create what would become the first major landscaped park in the US -- they called it “The Central Park.”

Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

The Subject Matters host Joe Condon talks with Kevin Nephew -- Member of the Seneca Nation about the topic of Native Americans. Nephew discusses the term Native Americans, stereotypes, historical facts and the Two Row Wampum Treaty. The Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign, a partnership between the Onondaga Nation and Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation (NOON), is developing a broad alliance between the Haudenosaunee and their allies in New York and throughout the world. Our statewide advocacy and educational campaign seeks to achieve justice by polishing the chain of friendship established in the first treaty between the Haudenosaunee and Dutch immigrants. Environmental cleanup and preservation are the core components of our campaign.With a proud and rich history, the Seneca were the largest of six Native American nations which comprised the Iroquois Confederacy or Six Nations, a democratic government that pre-dates the United States Constitution. The Seneca Nation of Indians currently has a total enrolled population of nearly 8,000 citizens. The territories are generally rural, with several residential areas. Many Seneca citizens live off-territory, some are located across the country, as well as in other countries. Also, guest discussed the use of mascot Indian names and the operation of casinos.
Seneca Nation of New York
The Seneca Nation of New York, also known as the Seneca Nation of Indians (Salamanca), is a federally recognized tribe of Seneca people in New York. The tribe has two alternating capitals: one in Irving, New York on the Cattaraugus Reservation, and the other in Jimerson Town near Salamanca on the Allegany Indian Reservation. It is one of two federally recognized Seneca tribes in New York. The other is the much smaller Tonawanda Band of Seneca Indians, which broke off from the Seneca Nation in 1857.
Seneca people also make up part of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation, located in Oklahoma. They are descendants of Iroquois and Mingo who had migrated from New York to Ohio before the American Revolutionary War, and were relocated from there to Indian Territory in the nineteenth century.
Government
The tribe was established in 1848 by a Constitutional Convention of Seneca people residing on the Allegany and Cattaragus Territories in present-day New York. The Seneca Nation of Indians Constitution established a tri-partite governing structure based on general elections of 16 Councilors, three Executives (President, Treasurer, Clerk), and Court justices (Surrogates and Peacemakers). These elections are held every two years, concurrent with Election Day in the rest of the United States. The leadership rotates between the two reservations each election, and no officer can serve consecutive terms because of this. There are no other term limits, and elected officers can serve numerous nonconsecutive terms.

New York City is such a blast and there’s just so much to see and do, but there’s no denying that the attractions can add up QUICKLY.
