Chorley is a market town in Lancashire, in North West England. It is the largest settlement in the Borough of Chorley. Chorley is located 8.1 miles (13km) north of Wigan10.8 miles (17km) south west of Blackburn, 11 miles (18km) north west of Bolton 12 miles (19km) south of Preston and 19.5 miles (31km) north west of Manchester. As in much of Lancashire, the town's wealth came principally from the cotton industry, although it also became a major market town due to its central location between four other towns. As recently as the 1970s the skyline was dominated by numerous factory chimneys, but most have now been demolished: remnants of the industrial past include Morrison's chimney and a few other mill buildings, and the streets of terraced houses for mill workers. Chorley is the home of the Chorley cake. Chorley's population increased from 31,556 in 2001 to 34,667 in 2011.
History
Toponymy
The name Chorley comes from two Anglo-Saxon words, Ceorl and ley, probably meaning "the peasants' clearing".Ley (also leah or leigh) is a common element of place-name, meaning a clearing in a woodland. Ceorl refers to a person of status similar to a freeman or a yeoman.
Chorley constituency consists of the majority of the borough of Chorley. As well as the central market town of Chorley itself, the seat extends into southern Lancashire rural hinterland with three major villages and minor villages.
Chorley's expansion is assured with the building of Buckshaw Village, an urban development sprawling over the former Royal Ordnance Site east of Leyland in the seat.
Following their review of parliamentary representation in Lancashire leading up to the United Kingdom general election, 2010 the Boundary Commission for England created a new seat of Wyre and Preston North in the central part of the county, which caused "knock-on" effects elsewhere. Chorley constituency was one of the largest in electorate at the start of the review, which was a factor in the alterations to both its own composition and the changes to surrounding constituencies.
'It’s Chorley not bloody Gaza': Conservative councillor confronts pro-Palestine protester
Police have launched an investigation after a scuffle broke out when pro-Palestine protesters disrupted a meeting of Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s council.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening at Chorley Council. Sir Lindsay, the Commons Speaker who last week was criticised for his handling of a Gaza debate, is the Chorley MP.
A local group of pro-Palestine campaigners, frustrated that the council would not formally debate a motion for a ceasefire, disrupted a meeting by calling for such a move and chanting.

Big Trouble In Little Chorley! - Chorley Pub Crawl
Here we go again for part 2 of our October SPBW coach trip to Preston and Chorley! We went wild for mild, we had some IPAs and even a stout or two. I'm still working on fitting in gluten free options into the videos but in the meantime have a look at the boards in the pubs and keep an eye out for the gf sign, they're usually marked on there.
PUBS VISITED:

How Chorley Stole My Heart: Exploring Lancashire's Hidden Gem! 2024
Upon arriving in the town of Chorley, I was greeted with this sign plastered across the bus station in big, think, black letters:

Remnants of the industrial past include Morrisons chimney and other mill buildings and the streets of terraced houses for mill workers.
Also, given its location on the edge of Lancashire Coalfield, Chorley was vital in coal mining.
The last pit in the area to close was the Ellerbeck Colliery in 1987 which was located south of Chorley, between Coppull and Adlington.
Chorley had a population of 33,424 at the 2001 census, with the wider borough of Chorley having a population of 101,991.
The town is the home of the Chorley cake. Every October, the Chorley Cake Street Fair promotes the cakes with a competition for local bakers to produce the largest ever Chorley cake.

As I walked through the town of today, I couldn't help but notice the amount of churches that dot this small town. My favourite one is: St Laurence's Church which dates back to after first being recorded in 1362. The tower which instantly, caught my attention when I first saw it, dates from the 15th century.⛪️
All in all, I had an amazing time in Chorley and take home with me many beautiful memories. Thank you Chorley and thank you to everyone whom I met there.💫

Lying alone in this cold and quiet room I can hear their whispers now I can sense it: A turn is coming on Lying alone in this cold and quiet room The door is silently opening I can sense it: A turn is coming on Wincing faces, racked by pain They come to me as I fall asleep Climbing the stairs, to hide is vain They will get me in this night so deep Exhausted veins Bloody drugs every day Their needles in my brain They gave me one more jab supposed to relieve all that pain I tried to get away To escape from that place But my own legs betray me leaving body on that bed Wincing faces, in front of me They've come to me and I don't dare To give that fight for eternity
