Robert Taylor died of lung cancer at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica, California on June 8, 1969. He was 57 years old. In October of 1968, Taylor went in to have surgery to remove a portion of his right lung after doctors informed him that he had likely contracted a fungal infection called Coccidioidomycosis otherwise known as Valley fever.
Throughout his career, Taylor experienced many high points as well as low ones. When HUAC called him to testify before the committee about communism in Hollywood, he gave the names of three of his former colleagues. Not only were their careers ruined by that, but his reputation was also tarnished.
Another low point of his personal life was the bitter divorce that he and his ex-wife Barbara Stanwyck went through after he cheated on her with one of his co-stars from the film 'Quo Vadis' while he was in Rome shooting the movie.

A second child, Tessa, joined the family in 1959 and they all enjoyed a quiet family life away from the limelight. Ursula Thiess wrote an autobiography:" But I Have Promises to Keep: My Life Before, With and After Robert Taylor" in 2003. She shares her memories of those happy days at home, the famous Robert Taylor Ranch in Mandeville Canyon. In her book, she also tell us about her children from her previous marriage, Manuela and Michael, and the sorrowful times of Bob Taylor eight-month battle with cancer. He died in her arms and his last words were for her: "I love you Mutti".
Ursula passed away on June 19, 2010, at the age of 86. Now, they are reunited again. I can see her with his beloved husband riding the wide open fields of a land called Heaven.
I chose the song "For Once in my Life" to illustrate Bob feelings about Ursula. I have uploaded this clip many times using the Michael Bublé and Frank Sinatra versions of the song and Youtube disabled the audio due to copyright claim by WMG over and over. So I decided to use "For Once in my Life" performed by Argentinean musician and singer Guillermo Bruto, who faithfully recreates Michael Bublé's performance and style. Youtube is still saying me that my video "may include content that is owned or administered by W...." but "it's still available worldwide. In some cases ads may appear next to your video".................
"For Once in My Life" lyrics (Steve Wonder):
For once in my life
I have someone who needs me
Someone I've needed so long
For once unafraid
I can go where life leads me
And somehow I know I'll be strong
For once I can touch
What my heart used to dream of
Long before I knew
Someone warm like you
Could make my dream come true.
For once in my life
I won't let sorrow hurt me
Not like it's hurt me before
For once I've got someone
I know won't desert me
I'm not alone anymore
For once I can say
"This is mine, you can't take it"
As long as I know
I've got love I can make it
For once in my life
I've got someone who needs me ...

Being a war film made during the WWII you can see clearly anti-Japanese propaganda, as in many movies filmed in Hollywood at that time. In spite of the depiction of the Japanese as cold-blooded killers and the irritating expressions like "dirty Japs" and "monkeys", Bataan is a remarkable film standing out by:
...being a realistic and dramatic portrayal of men in war. The squad stands air attacks, snipers, malaria, shortages of medicine, food and potable water, besides suffering weariness, impotence and discouragement.
...featuring a fully integrated Army; there's a Jewish, a African-American, an Hispanic and two Filipinos. The characters, representing the diverse social spectrum of United States regardless of race or creed, are treated equally.
...being entirely filmed on a set at Culver City Studios, re-creating faithfully the oppressive and gloomy atmosphere of a tropical jungle with its dense foliage and wriggling ground fog.
...presenting realistic fight sequences never shown up to that time; the hand to hand, face to face combat scenes are shocking and startling .
...the unforgettable the last scene when Robert Taylor- Sergeant Dane, the last remaining man, exhausted and wounded, digs his own grave after all his men have been picked off one by one by the Japanese, and soon after he realizes that the enemy have surrounded him, opens fire, holds his machine gun and screaming, keeps it firing straight at the camera until the end.

ABOUT AMERICAN IDOL
AMERICAN IDOL, the iconic series that revolutionized the television landscape by pioneering the music competition genre, returned to the airwaves in February 2019 for its third season at its new home on ABC. The nationwide search for the next superstar kicked off in August 2018, as the Idol Bus traveled from Portland, Oregon, to Orlando, Florida, in its pursuit for talent, covering 23 cities across the country. Auditioning was made easier than ever as hopefuls also had the opportunity to submit audition videos online, as well as via select social media platforms using an official tag, #TheNextIdol, cultivating over 300,000 posts. Also, for the first time in “American Idol” history, hopefuls had the opportunity to audition through a livestream platform. Helping to determine who America will ultimately vote for to become the next singing sensation, are music industry forces and superstar judges, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Emmy® Award-winning host and producer Ryan Seacrest will return as host of the beloved series.
