Zachary Taylor
Zachary Taylor (November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850) was the 12th President of the United States, serving from March 1849 until his death in July 1850. Before his presidency, Taylor was a career officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general.
Taylor's status as a national hero as a result of his victories in the Mexican-American War won him election to the White House despite his vague political beliefs. His top priority as president was preserving the Union, but he died seventeen months into his term, before making any progress on the status of slavery, which had been inflaming tensions in Congress.
Taylor was born into a prominent family of planters who migrated westward from Virginia to Kentucky in his youth. He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1808 and made a name for himself as a captain in the War of 1812. He climbed the ranks establishing military forts along the Mississippi River and entered the Black Hawk War as a colonel in 1832. His success in the Second Seminole War attracted national attention and earned him the nickname "Old Rough and Ready".

Zachary Taylor (clergyman)
Zachary Taylor (1653–1705) was an English clergyman, known for his controversial writings. One of his opponents dubbed him the "Lancashire Levite".
Life
He was born at Bolton, Lancashire, on 20 April 1653, and baptised at the parish church on 24 April; his father Zachary Taylor the elder (1619–1693) was an ejected minister in 1662, married to Abigail Ward, who became a schoolmaster. The younger Zachary Taylor was admitted at Jesus College, Cambridge, on 19 April 1671, and graduated B.A. in 1675, and M.A. in 1678; he was incorporated at Oxford on 13 July 1678.
Taylor was appointed vicar of Ormskirk on 9 March 1680, and resigned in 1693, becoming curate to the rector of Wigan. On 10 December 1695 he was appointed by the crown to the rectory of Croston, Lancashire, retaining the curacy of Wigan. He died in 1705, probably in May; his will, dated 30 April, was proved at Chester on 19 June 1705.

Zachary Taylor (May 9, 1849 – February 19, 1921) was a U.S. Representative from Tennessee.
Biography
Born near Brownsville, Tennessee, Taylor attended J.I. Hall's School near Covington, Tennessee, and was graduated from the Virginia Military Institute at Lexington as senior captain July 4, 1872. He graduated from Cumberland School of Law at Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, in January 1874. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Covington, Tennessee, in 1878.
Career
Taylor served in the State senate from 1881 to 1883. He was Postmaster of Covington, Tennessee, from July 1, 1883, to January 1, 1885, when he resigned.
Elected as a Republican to the Forty-ninth Congress, Taylor served from March 4, 1885 to March 3, 1887. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1886 to the Fiftieth Congress. He moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and engaged in the general life insurance business.
Taylor was delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1896. He moved to San Antonio, Texas.

Zachary "Zack" Taylor is a fictional character in the Power Rangers universe, appearing in the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He is the original Black Ranger of the first generation of Power Rangers. He was played by actor Walter Emanuel Jones.

We visited the monument and grave of President and Major General Zachary Taylor, in Louisville, Kentucky. Zachary Taylor was a career soldier and gave almost his entire life in service to his country. He served most of his career on the western frontier of the United States and took part in the Northwest Indian Wars, Black Hawk's War and the Seminole Wars before getting called to first in the Mexican War. He had zero political experience but was urged to run for President of the United States. He refused to take the oath of office on the assigned day because it was the sabbath which gave power to the only man who has had it for one day. Despite the fact that Louisiana is considered his home state, Zachary Taylor, who was president from 1849-1850, has many ties to Kentucky. Born in Virginia in 1785, he was raised here on a farm two miles east of Louisville, on Muddy Fork of Beargrass Creek. He married in Kentucky and five of his six children were born here.
In later life, his home was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was a slaveholder with a cotton plantation in Mississippi. A career military man, "Old Rough and Ready" became a national hero in the Mexican-American War—and a perfect choice for presidential candidate among Southerners.
After Taylor was elected president in 1848, he surprised everyone by rejecting the extension of slavery into those territories recently taken from Mexico. Kentucky's Henry Clay came up with a compromise, proposing that California be admitted as a free state and the other territories be allowed to have slavery. Taylor remained opposed, so much so that the old general threatened to lead the Army against Southern secessionists.
A compromise was still under debate when Taylor died unexpectedly on July 9, 1850, after a brief but severe gastrointestinal illness. Official word from his doctors was that he died of cholera. Taylor's body was taken back home to Louisville for burial in the family cemetery.
However, for over a century afterward, some historians wondered if Taylor's political enemies had poisoned him with arsenic. His body was exhumed in 1991 and the Kentucky coroner, Dr. George Nichols, said it was his opinion that Taylor died of natural causes, not arsenic poisoning.
Today, the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville is the final resting place for thousands of soldiers.

We visited the monument and grave of President and Major General Zachary Taylor, in Louisville, Kentucky. Zachary Taylor was a career soldier and gave almost his entire life in service to his country. He served most of his career on the western frontier of the United States and took part in the Northwest Indian Wars, Black Hawk's War and the Seminole Wars before getting called to first in the Mexican War.
He had zero political experience but was urged to run for President of the United States. He refused to take the oath of office on the assigned day because it was the sabbath which gave power to the only man who has had it for one day. President Zachary Taylor died in office and his death is a mystery to this day. His main goal during his Presidency was the preservation of the Union.
Taylor was technically kidnapped on his journey to take office as President and another interesting fact about him is that the eventual President of the Confederate States of American Jefferson Davis served under Taylor and resigned so that he could marry Taylor's daughter.
Zachary Taylor lived a amazing life and is forgotten by most Americans today. We aim to help keep his legacy alive. Hear his epic story in this video!

"Zachary Taylor" on this segment of the President's Day episode of Kentucky Life on KET.
Despite the fact that Louisiana is considered his home state, Zachary Taylor, who was president from 1849-1850, has many ties to Kentucky. Born in Virginia in 1785, he was raised here on a farm two miles east of Louisville, on Muddy Fork of Beargrass Creek. He married in Kentucky and five of his six children were born here.
In later life, his home was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was a slaveholder with a cotton plantation in Mississippi. A career military man, "Old Rough and Ready" became a national hero in the Mexican-American War—and a perfect choice for presidential candidate among Southerners.
After Taylor was elected president in 1848, he surprised everyone by rejecting the extension of slavery into those territories recently taken from Mexico. Kentucky's Henry Clay came up with a compromise, proposing that California be admitted as a free state and the other territories be allowed to have slavery. Taylor remained opposed, so much so that the old general threatened to lead the Army against Southern secessionists.
A compromise was still under debate when Taylor died unexpectedly on July 9, 1850, after a brief but severe gastrointestinal illness. Official word from his doctors was that he died of cholera. Taylor's body was taken back home to Louisville for burial in the family cemetery.
However, for over a century afterward, some historians wondered if Taylor's political enemies had poisoned him with arsenic. His body was exhumed in 1991 and the Kentucky coroner, Dr. George Nichols, said it was his opinion that Taylor died of natural causes, not arsenic poisoning.
Today, the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville is the final resting place for thousands of soldiers.

Zachary Taylor
Zachary Taylor (November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850) was the 12th President of the United States, serving from March 1849 until his death in July 1850. Before his presidency, Taylor was a career officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general.
Taylor's status as a national hero as a result of his victories in the Mexican-American War won him election to the White House despite his vague political beliefs. His top priority as president was preserving the Union, but he died seventeen months into his term, before making any progress on the status of slavery, which had been inflaming tensions in Congress.
Taylor was born into a prominent family of planters who migrated westward from Virginia to Kentucky in his youth. He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1808 and made a name for himself as a captain in the War of 1812. He climbed the ranks establishing military forts along the Mississippi River and entered the Black Hawk War as a colonel in 1832. His success in the Second Seminole War attracted national attention and earned him the nickname "Old Rough and Ready".
