Richard Hughes Williams (1878 – 26 July 1919), or Dic Tryfan, was a Welsh language writer of short stories, born in Rhosgadfan in the old county of Caernarfonshire (Gwynedd), north Wales. Most of his stories are set in the slate-quarrying communities of his native Caernarfonshire. He was known to the renowned Welsh novelist Kate Roberts, an early admirer of his work who grew up in the same area.
Work
Richard Hughes Williams's stories were first published in Papur Pawb, Cymru, Yr Herald Gymraeg and Y Goleuad, and appeared in two collections during his lifetime: Straeon y Chwarel and Tair Stori Fer. A posthumous selection of his work was published with an introduction by E. Morgan Humphreys, and in a second edition containing an additional short story and an additional critical essay by John Rowlands, in 1996.
Richard Hughes Williams's stories are commonly set among the men who work at the slate quarries, and highlight both physical hardship and danger they endure, and their good humour, courage, and solidarity. Often they focus on a quarryman of unusual eccentricity or poverty, and sketch the incidents, humorous and tragic, that lead to his early death.
Richard Arthur Warren HughesOBE (19 April 1900 – 28 April 1976) was a British writer of poems, short stories, novels and plays.
He was born in Weybridge, Surrey. His father was Arthur Hughes, a civil servant, and his mother Louisa Grace Warren who had been brought up in the West Indies in Jamaica. He was educated first at Charterhouse School and graduated from Oriel College, Oxford during 1922.
A Charterhouse schoolmaster had sent Hughes's first published work to the magazine The Spectator during 1917. The article, written as a school essay, was an unfavorable criticism of The Loom of Youth, by Alec Waugh, a recently published novel which caused a furore for its account of homosexual passions between British schoolboys in a public school. At Oxford he met Robert Graves, also an Old Carthusian (graduate of Charterhouse), and they co-edited a poetry publication, Oxford Poetry, during 1921. Hughes's short play The Sisters' Tragedy was being staged in the West End of London at the Royal Court Theatre by 1922. He was the author of the world's first radio play, Danger, commissioned from him for the BBC by Nigel Playfair and broadcast on 15 January 1924.

Richard David Hughes (born 8 September 1975, Gravesend, Kent) is an English musician, best known as the drummer of the British piano rock bandKeane.
Biography
Hughes attended Tonbridge School where he was friends with Tim Rice-Oxley and Dominic Scott. At the age of seventeen, he learned to play the drums, and when Scott and Rice-Oxley formed a small covers band in 1995 he was invited to join as drummer. They later invited present vocalist Tom Chaplin to join the band, although Hughes initially objected, later stating, "The idea of giving someone who's already the loudest person you know a microphone was not something that I was particularly keen on."
Hughes then went to university at University College London where he received a degree in Geography. He took a job as a secretary at the BBC in order to support himself and the band while they lived and practiced in a flat on Upper Clapton Road in London. He also had a job as a supply teacher for a short time. It has been said that the song 'Put it Behind You' was written by Rice-Oxley for Hughes after he had broken up with a girlfriend, and that much of the album 'Perfect Symmetry' - in particular the track 'You Don't See Me' - was also written about him and his unrequited love for a music journalist who broke his heart by marrying another man. Hughes is known to be the most humorous member of the band. Since Under the Iron Sea was released he has provided additional backing vocals for the band. He was married, presumably to his long-time girlfriend, in 2010.
Hughes was born on 5 March 1906 at Prahran, Melbourne, Australia. His working life began at the Victorian Railways and he acquired his first journalistic experiences as a writer for the house magazine "The Victorian Railways Magazine" which is where he acquired the poetic style of writing for which he later became famous. He later worked within the Frank Packer organisation.
Hughes was a war correspondent in the North African campaign of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
After WWII he worked first from Japan and then from Hong Kong where in addition to his journalistic work he was generally considered to be a British spy and by some to be a double agent.
