There are two sections of the A-20, separated by a 57km (35.4mi) gap that was to be filled in by 2015 according to the Quebec government's Bas-Saint-Laurent plan. The length of the A-20 would then be 641km (398mi). Currently, there is no official plan to continue construction past Trois-Pistoles, which will leave a 50km (31mi) gap.
Description
Autoroute du Souvenir
Montérégie
The A-20 begins at the Ontario-Quebec border near Rivière-Beaudette as the continuation of Ontario Highway 401. The westernmost section of the A-20 was named the Autoroute du Souvenir (Remembrance Highway) in 2007 to honour Canadian veterans. Road marker signs on this stretch of the autoroute feature a poppy (a traditional symbol of Remembrance in Canada).
Autoroute 73 (or A-73, also called Autoroute Robert-Cliche south of Quebec City, Autoroute Henri-IV from the Pierre-Laporte Bridge to the Autoroute Felix-Leclerc interchange and Autoroute Laurentienne to the north) is an important Autoroute in east-central Quebec, Canada. A-73 provides an important freeway connection to areas to the north and south of Quebec City, starting in the Beauce region and ending in the Laurentian Mountains north of Quebec City. Highway upgrades to Route 175 from 2007 to 2013 effectively take it farther north, into the Saguenay region. Including concurrencies, A-73 is 135km (83.9mi) long.
Autoroute 70, or A-70, is a short Autoroute located in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of northern Quebec. It is the only Autoroute that does not connect to any other Autoroutes, although other Autoroutes have discontiguous segments such as A-20 and A-30. A-70 was first created in 1983, and has since been extended three times.
A-70 is 27km (16.8mi) long, however extensions are planned in both directions. A-70 is only partially completed; it acts primarily as a bypass route around the urban area of Saguenay. The route was slow to develop; until 2001 it was an extremely short stub, less than 6km (3.7mi) long.
It is expected that A-70 will be extended westward to at least Alma and eastward to La Baie. A new alignment has already been determined for the westernmost section of A-70, and the central section (part of Route 170) is already a four-lane divided highway; service roads would need to be constructed as it is not limited access. The proposed route for the eastern section has also been determined.
Autoroute 740 (or A-740, also called Autoroute Robert-Bourassa) is a short connecting highway in Quebec City, Canada. Its southern end is at the Université Laval from Boulevard Laurier. Its northern end is at Autoroute 40 at the shopping mall Les Galeries de la Capitale. Its southern end is at Route 175 at another mall, Place Sainte-Foy.
It goes under Chemin Ste-Foy and Chemin Quatre-Bourgeois via a 300 metre long tunnel.
It is an alternate link between Autoroute de la Capitale (A-40) and Autoroute Charest (A-440), when Autoroute Henri IV (A-73/A-40) has heavy traffic.
Du Vallon Extension Project
Construction is, as of April 2006, underway between Boulevard Lebourgneuf and Boulevard Bastien, crossing Avenue Chaveau for a planned November 2006 opening of an extension of A-740 in the shape of a "Urban Boulevard". It will be an alternate route to the heavily travelled Boulevard St. Jacques which travels in roughly the same direction.
Renaming of Autoroute 740
On November 3, 2006, a decision was made by the Quebec government and the City of Quebec to rename the Autoroute Du Vallon and its future extension to Autoroute Robert-Bourassa, in honour of the late Quebec premier.
In 1995, Parliament passed the Firearms Act, which required long gun owners to register their guns. The Supreme Court found that the Act was intra vires the federal criminal law power. In 2012, Parliament repealed the requirement to register long guns through the Ending the Long-gun Registry Act (ELRA) and sought to delete the information in its registry. The province of Quebec, wishing to create and maintain its own long gun registry, requested that the federal government share the data it had collected about Quebec long gun owners. When the federal government declined to share the information, Quebec argued that section 29 of the ELRA, the provision disbanding the long gun registry, was ultra vires the federal government.
At trial in the Superior Court of Quebec, the trial judge found that section 29 was unconstitutional as it violated the principle of cooperative federalism given that Quebec had take part in "gathering, analyzing, organizing, and modifying" the data in question. The trial judge required the federal government to share the information with Quebec.
The Quinebaug Mill was built by Amos D. Lockwood starting in 1851 on the Quinebaug River, near the site of an 1820 Tiffany Mill. The Quinebaug Mill became one of the largest and most complete cotton mills in Connecticut by the end of the 19th century. Most of the mill was destroyed by fire, but the weave shed and the houses for workers survived. The housing area, which dates back from 1881, was rebuilt as low-cost housing in 1984 and contains six brick row houses, each containing eight apartments, surrounding a green space.

Driving from Montreal to Quebec City - Canada on Autoroute 20
Autoroute 20 is a Quebec Autoroute, following the Saint Lawrence River through one of the more densely populated parts of Canada, with its central section forming the main route of the Trans-Canada Highway from the A-25 interchange to the A-85 interchange. While the Quebec government has completed environmental and economic reviews of the impact of linking the two sections of Autoroute 20, it has not committed the funds necessary for construction. Citing the high number of accidents on the Rimouski-Mont-Joli link of the A-20, many politicians in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region have criticized the government's lack of progress in linking the two sections of autoroute and twinning the two-lane portion.
