Osaka University(大阪大学,Ōsaka daigaku), or Handai(阪大,Handai), is a national university located in Osaka, Japan. It is the sixth oldest university in Japan as the Osaka Prefectural Medical College, and one of Japan's National Seven Universities. Numerous prominent scientists have worked at Osaka University such as the Nobel Laureate in Physics Hideki Yukawa.
It is the 3rd best ranked higher education institution in Japan (85th worldwide).
History
Academic traditions of the university reach back to Kaitokudō(懐徳堂), an Edo-period school for local citizens founded in 1724, and Tekijuku(適塾), a school of Rangaku for samurai founded by Ogata Kōan in 1838. The spirit of the university's humanity sciences is believed to be intimately rooted in Kaitokudo, whereas that of the natural and applied sciences, including medicine, is widely believed to be based on Tekijuku.
Osaka University traces its origin back to 1869 when Osaka Prefectural Medical School was founded in downtown Osaka. The school was later transformed into the Osaka Prefectural Medical College with university status by the University Ordinance (Imperial Ordinance No. 388 of 1918) in 1919. The college merged with the newly founded College of Science to form Osaka Imperial University(大阪帝國大学) in 1931. Osaka Imperial University was inaugurated as the sixth imperial university in Japan. As part of the University, Osaka Technical College was later included to form the school of Engineering two years later. The university was eventually renamed Osaka University in 1947.
Sports science (also sport science) is a discipline that studies how the healthy human body works during exercise, and how sport and physical activity promote health from cellular to whole body perspectives. The study of sports science traditionally incorporates areas of physiology (exercise physiology), psychology (sport psychology), anatomy, biomechanics, biochemistry and biokinetics. Sports scientists and performance consultants are growing in demand and employment numbers, with the ever-increasing focus within the sporting world on achieving the best results possible. Through the study of science and sport, researchers have developed a greater understanding on how the human body reacts to exercise, training, different environments and many other stimuli.
Origins of exercise physiology
Sports Science can trace its origins to ancient Greece. The noted ancient Greek physician Galen (131–201) wrote 87 detailed essays about improving health (proper nutrition), aerobic fitness, and strengthening muscles. Assyrian Hunayn ibn Ishaq translated Galen's work, along with that of Hippocrates, into Arabic which lead to the spread of Greek physiology throughout the Middle East and Europe. Between 776BC to 393AD, the ancient Greek physicians planned the training regimens and diets of the Olympic competitors.
Historically a merchant city, Osaka has also been known as the "nation's kitchen"(天下の台所,tenka no daidokoro) and served as a center for the rice trade during the Edo period.
History
Prehistory to the Kofun period
Some of the earliest signs of human habitation in the Osaka area at the Morinomiya ruins(森ノ宮遺跡,Morinomiya iseki) comprise shell mounds, sea oysters and buried human skeletons from the 5th–6th centuries BC. It is believed that what is today the Uehonmachi area consisted of a peninsular land with an inland sea in the east. During the Yayoi period, permanent habitation on the plains grew as rice farming became popular.
Some promotional copies of Osaka went out with the band's original name, The Brakes. Shortly after, they had to change their name because of a New York band called The Break.
The album includes one cover, "Hanging on the Telephone", which was originally performed by The Nerves, although a cover of it by Blondie was more popular. "The Good Life" is also the name of a Weezer song, so some fans may have expected it to be a cover, especially since bassistMikey Welsh was a member of Weezer prior to The Kickovers. Although not a member, Dave Aarnoff of The Shods performed bass on several tracks of the album.

Follow me around my dormitory for this video!
I live in Orion International House in Osaka, and before coming to Japan I've searched the internet frantically for a video about this dormitory, with no luck.
So, if you're looking for a tour of this dormitory in particular, if you want to get an impression of dormitory life for international students in Japan in general, or if you're only here to see how I'm doing in my new environment, I hope you enjoy this video.

Take a look at the three campuses of Osaka University. Our campuses are in quiet residential areas lush with nature and are served by the Osaka Monorail lines and free shuttle bus services.

Ever thought what goes into making a kid from Warmbad one of the fittest cricketers in the world or a boy from Sherwood one of the fastest persons alive? Sports Science, although unconventional and unheard of, is the answer to these questions. For the 10th edition of TEDxBITSGoa, we had Karishma Boolani, a sport scientist who worked with the Australian Olympic team tell us how science can change the world of sports. She answered some of the most asked questions like "Which sport should my child play?" to "How does Michael Phelps ace the Olympics every single time?".
Watch her talk on youtube to gain insight into one of the most intriguing fields out there which combines the best of both worlds! Karishma Boolani is a sports scientist who has graduated with a degree both in Behavioral Neuroscience & Psychology from the University of Melbourne and a Sports Science degree from Bond University in Australia. She is responsible for developing FOCUS which is a fitness improvement and assessment program for children that has been implemented in 185 schools around India. She was the head of the KOOH Sports lab and is now the founder of HUMANICS, another sports science company. Karishma has also been the President of the Australian Alumni Association and has even worked with the Australian Olympic Team. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
