King's Highway 5, commonly referred to as Highway 5 and historically as the Dundas Highway, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The east–west highway travels a distance of 12.7km (7.9mi) between Highway 8 at Peter's Corners, north of Hamilton and Highway 6 at Clappison's Corners. Prior to several sections being downloaded to the municipalities in which they reside, Highway5 served as bypass to Highway2, connecting with it in both Paris and Scarborough, a distance of 114.3km (71.0mi).
Highway5 followed a significant piece of the Governor's Road, one of two routes constructed under the orders of John Graves Simcoe during his short tenure as Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, the other being Yonge Street. The route was adopted into the provincial highway system in 1920 and numbered as Highway5 in 1925.
Route description
Highway 5 serves as a short connector between Highway8 in the west and Highway6 in the east, essentially a continuation of Highway8. This configuration comes as a result of the truncation of both highways. The removed sections were transferred to the jurisdiction of the City of Toronto, the City of Mississauga, the Regional Municipality of Halton, the City of Hamilton, the County of Brant, and Oxford County on January 1, 1998. Prior to that, Highway5 followed a large portion of the Governors Road between Toronto and Paris.
The Veterans Memorial Parkway (VMP, known as the "Veterans" by locals) is a 9.2km (5.7mi)expressway located in London, Ontario. The expressway was previously known as King's Highway 100 from 1977 until 1994 and as Airport Road from 1977 to September 2006. It is currently an at-grade, four-lane expressway. Long term plans / proposals for the route include north and south extensions of the road and grade separatedinterchanges along its entire length, converting it to a freeway.
History
In the late 1960s, the highway was conceived by the Ontario government as a freeway bypass that would run along the eastern and northern parts of London. The road would connect to Highway 401 in the south and join up with Highway 402 in the west. This plan, however, never came to fruition due to city council's reluctance to fund an urban freeway.
Instead as a compromise, the City of London and the province decided that the proposed road would be constructed as a two-lane highway from Highway 401 north to Oxford Street. Designed as a super two, the design included a 250-metre-wide (820ft) right-of-way so that an additional carriageway could be built in the future. As well, the road would be designated as Highway 100 and named Airport Road. The road featured traffic lights at intersections, with available land to built interchanges if warranted. The Hanlon Parkway (also known as Highway 6 North) in Guelph was built around the same time and had similar features as Airport Road, including the same overpass contractors for their trumpet interchanges with Highway 401, and at-grade intersections, although the Hanlon was opened as a four-lane divided road. Construction on Airport Road began in early 1975, with its official opening in 1977.
Highway40 was built as a depression-relief project in 1934. The original routing followed what is now the St. Clair Parkway, but was rerouted to create that scenic road in the mid-1970s. The Sarnia Bypass was built between 1963 as Highway40A and renumbered as Highway40 by 1965; the original route through Sarnia became Highway 40B until it was decommissioned during the early-1990s. The route was extended to Highway3 in Blenheim during the early 1970s; however this section would be the sole part of Highway40 decommissioned during the Ontario highway transfers. The route is 91.8km (57.0mi) long.

This is a list of secondary highways in Thunder Bay District, most of which serve as logging roads or provide access to the isolated and sparsely populated areas in the Thunder Bay District of northern Ontario.
The Gull Bay First Nation occupies one of the few permanent settlements on Highway 527, Gull Bay Reserve, situated on the western shore of Lake Nipigon about 70 kilometres south of Armstrong. The highway also passes the start of Highway811 along its route.
SC5 begins with a semi-interchange with US521, near Van Wyck. Going northwesterly nearly its entire route, it crosses the Catawba River, entering York County. In Lesslie, it joins US 21, crossing over I-77 before splitting in Rock Hill. Going southwesterly around the downtown area, it overlaps with SC121 (Albright Highway); then going northwesterly again in, overlapping with SC901 (Hackle Boulevard). SC5 exits out of Rock Hill solo again towards York; where there, it teams-up with SC161 and bypass northeasterly around the city. Continuing on its northwesterly direction, it reaches its final destination of Blacksburg, where it connects with US29 before ending at I-85 (exit 102) and SC198.
Speeds along the highway does not exceed 55mph (89km/h), in both urban and rural areas. The highway provides a direct route from both US521 and I-85 to both York and Rock Hill.
Highway 5 is a major highway in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It begins in downtown Saskatoon and runs eastward to the Manitoba border near Togo, where it becomes Provincial Road 363. The highway is approximately 393 kilometres (244mi) long. Between the early 1900s (decade) and 1976, Provincial Highway 5 was a trans-provincial highway travelling approximately 630 kilometres (390mi) in length. At this time it started at the Alberta border in Lloydminster and traveled east to the Manitoba border.
In the summer of 1970, the section of highway between Lloydminster and Saskatoon was designated to be a portion of the Yellowhead Highway. This section of highway maintained the Highway 5 designation until 1976, when it was redesignated as Highway 16 to maintain the same number through the four western provinces (Manitoba followed suit the following year, redesignating its section of the Yellowhead Highway from PTH 4 to PTH 16). This redesignation shortened the length of Highway 5 to its current length of 393 kilometres (244mi).
