Newbury Weekly News press running for last time in Newbury
Newbury News Limited CEO James Gurney speaks about the last day of the Newbury Weekly News printing press on Thursday 18/01/18 ending 151 years of printing in the town.
"A day of mixed feelings, sad that we will no longer be printing our own titles on site ourselves but also exciting that our much loved titles will continue to be printed by another locally owned and family run press. Newbury Weekly News will be printed by Iliffe News and Media from next week and I can personally give our loyal readers the assurance that content and quality will remain the same."

Dear Andy
Alastair Kidwell’s views (last week’s edition), exposing the inadequacies of the Proclamation event, in Newbury Market Place, were correct, but I observed a rather more sinister occasion.
Not only was the PA sound quality pathetic (Councillor Jones should have been told to stand closer to the microphone), the event was only visible to a privileged few ‘dignitaries’ (Cllrs+1 and an incumbent self-serving MP) sitting on a front row of chairs and the people standing in the front row of the crowd.
My 85-year-old neighbour, walked a kilometre, with the aid of a stick, to witness this ...

The Newbury Weekly News, a failing regional print newspaper, in desperation, aware of online alternative citizen reporters, have introduced a draconian tyranny, denying access to their Tory rag, via sharing. They are demanding a subscription or deletion of anti-advertisement filters. This is tantamount to blackmail.

My 85-year-old neighbour, walked a kilometre, with the aid of a stick, to witness this event, unable to get close enough to see and hear anything, because of the dense crowd, before returning home, disappointed and disillusioned by the pathetic organisation.
Is this the type of inconsiderate actions we can expect to be perpetrated by the new King's Government, both National and Regional, identified here with West Berkshire Council, showing their true colours, riddled with scant concern and discrimination, failing to accommodate all the elderly and infirm citizens wanting to attend?
I also found it a rather unsavoury event, whereby I was prevented from video recording (as a citizen reporter) from within the exclusive, fenced-off arena, being the only unobscured position. For my efforts, I was manhandled away by Thames Valley Police officers, who failed to respond to my human rights, freedom of speech and expression, in a public place, but administered to the bullying tactics of WBC staff instead.
Next time there is a Proclamation, not so far distant, I hope WBC will dispense with the entitlement mentality and provide a Proclamation for ALL the people wanting to attend.
Why did they not use the Newbury Town Hall balcony, an architectural feature specifically designed for just such a purpose?
But of course, luckily, there may not be a Tory Government or Tory Administration in control at WBC, when it is time for William Windsor to be Proclaimed King. Thankfully they will be replaced with rather more empathetic governance, via PR, in a UK Republic, via a referendum, where all citizens will be respected and not treated as inferior subjects of an undemocratically elected, but genetically appointed, Monarchy of dubious quality.
