"Netherlands" literally means "lower countries", influenced by its low land and flat geography, with only about 50% of its land exceeding one metre above sea level. Most of the areas below sea level are man-made. Since the late 16th century, large areas (polders) have been reclaimed from the sea and lakes, amounting to nearly 17% of the country's current land mass.
The Netherlands (Dutch:Nederland) is a country located in Western Europe.
Netherlands or Nederland may also refer to:
Geography
Kingdom of the Netherlands, a constitutional monarchy consisting of the constituent country the Netherlands (in Western Europe) and the constituent countries Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten in the Caribbean
The Low Countries sometimes referred to as the "nether lands", consisting of the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, portions of northern France and western Germany
The roots of the NSM lay in a split that developed in Combat 18 in the mid to late 1990s. In early 1997 it was claimed on ITV's World in Action that the original leader of Combat 18 Charlie Sargent, who at the time was on remand for the murder of fellow C18 member Chris Castle, had acted as a paid informant for the police, although no evidence for this allegation was provided. Whilst Sargent was disowned by some of the rank and file membership of C18, his brother Steve, also a C18 member, supported Sargent and together with David Myatt led away fifty or so like-minded members to form a separate group, the National Socialist Movement, in June 1997.
Development
David Myatt was the first leader of the NSM until his resignation in March 1998 following his arrest by detectives from Scotland Yard on charges relating to incitement to racial hatred and incitement to murder when Tony Williams, a former member of the International Third Position, assumed the position of leader. Williams, who had also been involved with the National Front since the 1970s, had been the person chosen to escort the ashes of Savitri Devi to Arlington, Virginia where they were given to the American Nazi Party. As leader, the duties of Williams included overseeing membership inquiries and levying the £10 annual fee from registered supporters.
The National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands (Dutch:Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging in Nederland, Dutch pronunciation:[nɑtsjoːˈnaːl soːʃaːˈlɪstisə bəˈʋeːɣɪŋ ɪn ˈneːdərlɑnt], NSB) was a Dutchfascist and later national socialistpolitical party. As a parliamentary party participating in legislative elections, the NSB had some success during the 1930s. It remained the only legal party in the Netherlands during most of the Second World War.
Party history
1931–1940
The NSB was founded in Utrecht in 1931 during a period when several nationalist, fascist and national socialist parties were founded. The founders were Anton Mussert, who became the party's leader, and Cornelis van Geelkerken. The party based its program on Italian fascism and German national socialism, however unlike the latter before 1936 the party was not anti-semitic and even had Jewish members.
In 1933, after a year of building an organization, the party organized its first public meeting, a Landdag in Utrecht which was attended by 600 party militants. Here the party presented itself. After that the party's support began to grow. In the same year the government forbade civil servants to be members of the NSB.
The 1979 European election was the first direct election to the European Parliament to be held and hence the first time the Netherlands had voted. Four parties were able to win seats: the conservative liberal VVD, the progressive liberal D66, the Christian-democratic CDA and the social-democratic Labour Party. Five other nationally represented parties compete but are unable to win seats. 58.1% of the Dutch population turned out on election day.

Below is a complete list of members of the European Parliament for the period 1979-1984 as a result of this election.
1984-1989
Dutch political parties
The 1984 European election was the second European election to be held. In these elections both an alliance of leftwing CPN, PSP and PPR parties (Green Progressive Accord) and the orthodox Protestant SGP, GPV, RPF parties have formed a successful common lists, which win two respectively one seat. the progressive liberal D'66 loses its two seats and disappears from the parliament. 50.9% of the Dutch population turned out on election day.
The Dutch National Socialist Movement – The Rise of the NSB (1931 – 1935)
The NSB (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging/ National Socialist Movement) was the Dutch Nazi Party that collaborated with the Germans during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II (1940 – 1945). What about this party before the war? It was founded in 1931 by Anton Mussert and Cornelis van Geelkerken. It did see some success in Dutch politics, but a downfall followed. Why was that? Why wasn't Dutch fascism popular in the Netherlands before World War 2? In this video I will talk about the rise of the NSB and its leader Anton Mussert.

What neo-Nazis have inherited from original Nazism | DW Documentary
What resemblance do today’s ethnonationalistic ideologies bear to those which surged during the rise of the Nazis in the Weimar-era? Quite a lot, this documentary shows. Germany’s far-right neo-nazi scene is now bigger than at any time since National Socialism.
History may not repeat itself, but one can still learn from it. The years of the Weimar Republic were scarred by post-war trauma, political extremism, street fighting, hyper-inflation and widespread poverty. But they also saw economic boom, the establishment of a liberal democratic order and a parliamentary party system. Nobody could really imagine that the Nazis would brush aside the achievements of this young democracy just a few years later. But there were signs, warnings even that all was not well.

German Neo-Nazi Party runs for European elections | DW News
A minor far-right radical party in Germany called the 'Dritte Weg', or 'Third Path' is trying to boost its draw with marches evoking the country's Nazi past and openly aligns itself with National Socialism, unapologetically pushing its “Germans only” platform. The group is running candidates for the European parliamentary elections. In the town of Plauen the extremist group has found followers, amidst calls that they should be banned.

The Dutch SS (Germanic SS) – How Dutch Collaborators Clashed With One Another
During World War II in the Netherlands there existed different forms of Dutch collaboration. Most well known was the NSB (National Socialist Movement (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging)) led by Anton Mussert. Within this movement there were different ideas. Mussert clashed with Henk Feldmeijer and Meinhoud Rost van Tonningen who believed the Netherlands should be absorbed in the German Third Reich. Therefore the Dutch SS (Nederlandsche SS) was created. It later became known as the Germanic SS. Men from this faction later fought as Waffen-SS volunteers on the Eastern Front or in the unit Landstorm Nederland. A fairly obscure story of WW2 in Holland.

Germany's Far Right is Surging | Decade of Hate
As a deadly pandemic engulfed the globe, Germany’s far right saw an opportunity. It used panic, isolation, and people’s need for answers as a chance to grow its hateful brand.
Everyday people are marching side-by-side with fascists, and somehow far-right extremism is a major issue in Germany once again.
In this episode of Decade of Hate, host Tim Hume looks at some of the country’s key conspiracy theorists, and what makes some of them so dangerous.
In this intersection between COVID-deniers and neo-Nazis, we investigate why Germany is now a hot spot for people rejecting science and authority, and explain why that is seriously bad news.

A demented world the Netherlands during the interwar period 5/6 (eng.translation) 1080p
Singing together, marching together, chasing a banner together. In the interwar period, the group feeling is important, it provides something to hold on to. You derive your identity from the church or political party to which you belong. In the early 1930s, a new movement, the NSB, attacks established politics, appealing to national unity and pride. In Drenthe, where the farmers are suffering greatly from the crisis, the lure of NSB leader Mussert is well received.

Hitler's Plans for the Netherlands in World War II
On 10 May 1940 Germany invaded the Netherlands. The German invasion of the Netherlands was completed on 15 May when the Dutch Army surrendered. The German occupation of the Netherlands started. This was led by Arthur Seyss-Inquart. What were there Germans plans for occupied-Netherlands during World War II? The Dutch collaboration party (NSB; National Socialist Movement; Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging) was not on the same page with the Germans. NSB leader Anton Mussert wanted the Netherlands to become independent albeit under fascist rule. The Germans foresaw the Netherlands to be part of the Greater Germanic Reich. But not all German leaders were on the same page...

So how does that resonate today? How do today’s right-wing populist movements and parties achieve their political aims? Which slogans, images and stereotypes played a role then, and which ones are playing a role now?
The film also looks beyond Germany’s borders. How has Europe changed in the last few years and how have far-right movements been able to gain such influence? In the interwar period, democracies across the continent collapsed one after the other like a house of cards. What about today? Riding on the coat-tails of the political party the Alternative for Germany (AfD) the far-right has become a factor in both national and state parliaments, united by nationalist and often racist ideologies directly linked to those of the 1930s. At that time, global economic crisis and mass unemployment drove people straight into the fascists’ arms. So what will happen if crisis strikes now? Are our democracies and their achievements today any more stable than they were in the years before the Second World War?

So how does that resonate today? How do today’s right-wing populist movements and parties achieve their political aims? Which slogans, images and stereotypes played a role then, and which ones are playing a role now?

A minor far-right radical party in Germany called the 'Dritte Weg', or 'Third Path' is trying to boost its draw with marches evoking the country's Nazi past and openly aligns itself with National Socialism, unapologetically pushing its “Germans only” platform. The group is running candidates for the European parliamentary elections. In the town of Plauen the extremist group has found followers, amidst calls that they should be banned.

In the Netherlands there was the WA: de Weerbaarheidsafdeling (Resilience Department) – the paramilitary wing of the National Socialist Movement (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging; NSB) founded by Anton Mussert. The WA men were the Dutch blackshirts who were the Dutch equivalent of the German SA (Sturmabteilung).

A minor far-right radical party in Germany called the 'Dritte Weg', or 'Third Path' is trying to boost its draw with marches evoking the country's Nazi past and openly aligns itself with National Socialism, unapologetically pushing its “Germans only” platform. The group is running candidates for the European parliamentary elections. In the town of Plauen the extremist group has found followers, amidst calls that they should be banned.

Far-right groups in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries are gaining ground. There are growing calls from their ranks for a Nordic revolution. And they are not afraid to use violence to support these racist views.
