The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), is one of a few police organizations in South Korea and is run under the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. As a national police force it provides all policing services throughout the country. The National Park Services also have their own police organizations, as does the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation to police the railroad system.
Following the Saenuri Party's victory during the 2012 election the jurdistiction of the police in investigations was weakened, and that of the prosecutors strengthened.
Local police agencies
Combat police
The Combat Police division of the National Police Agency is an anti-riot paramilitary unit, of military conscripts. Its members deal with counterintelligence and riot policing. It was established in 1967, during the Third Republic. Each battalion is assigned to a municipal police agency in the country. In their riot gear, they were once identified by their signature metal riot shields which are numbered such as "1001" or "1011", and on their helmets with the NPA emblem. Now the police use modern tactical clear plastic shields and now deploy high-powered water cannons to minimize civilian injuries. Two weeks of training are taken by each draftee.
The National Police Agency of the Ministry of the Interior (NPA; Chinese:內政部警政署; pinyin:Nèizhèngbù Jǐngzhèngshǔ) is an agency under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of China (ROC) which oversees all ROC police forces on a national level. The National Police Agency is headquartered in Taipei City.
Police Organization & Structure
Hierarchy
Most actual law enforcement and day-to-day policing duties are delegated to local police departments on a city and county level which answer to the NPA but are considered agencies of their local government. However the NPA has direct control over several specialized units which may be deployed to assist local forces, as well as the national highway patrol.
Unlike the police system in USA, the central government appoints the head positions of city and county Police Departments in the ROC and thus forms a solid chain of command for all police personnel. By calling a personnel review board, the Director-General of NPA has the full control of personnel rotation and transfer, as well as administrative commendations and reprimands over all high ranking police officers, including chiefs of local police departments.
Unlike comparable bodies, such as the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the NPA does not have any police officers of its own. Instead, its role is to determine general standards and policies, although in national emergencies or large-scale disasters the agency is authorized to take command of prefectural police forces. Policy for the NPA in turn is set by the National Public Safety Commission.
Organization
Commissioner-General of the National Police Agency, the Highest ranking police officer(警察庁長官,Keisatsu-chō Chōkan)
Korea emerged as a singular political entity after centuries of conflict among the Three Kingdoms of Korea, which were unified as Silla (57 BC – AD 935) and Balhae (AD 698 – 926). The united Silla was eventually succeeded by Goryeo in 935 at the end of the Later Three Kingdoms period. Goryeo, which gave name to the modern exonym "Korea", was a highly cultured state and created the Jikji in the 14th century. The invasions by the Mongol Empire in the 13th century, however, greatly weakened the nation, which forced it into vassalage. After the Yuan dynasty's collapse, severe political strife followed. Goryeo eventually fell to an uprising led by General Yi Seong-gye, who established Joseon in 1388.
North Korea (listen), officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK; Chosŏn'gŭl:조선민주주의인민공화국;hancha:朝鮮民主主義人民共和國;MR:Chosŏn Minjujuŭi Inmin Konghwaguk), is a country in East Asia, in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. The name Korea is derived from the Kingdom of Goguryeo, also spelled as Koryŏ. The capital and largest city is Pyongyang. North Korea shares a land border with China to the north and northwest, along the Amnok (Yalu) and Tumen rivers, and a small section of the Tumen River also forms a border with Russia to the northeast. The Korean Demilitarized Zone marks the boundary between North Korea and South Korea.

China's SWAT police are a group of elite officers trained to deal emergency situations involving serious crimes and terrorism. A Chinese saying goes that a country nurtures its soldiers for 1,000 days just for one day's battle. But for SWAT forces, it's more like training for battle readiness for more than 1,000 days. #China #Police

The National Police Agency on Thursday held a drill to showcase its latest advancements at countering terrorist threats. About 58 officers took part in the exercises, including members of the special ops squad, trained dogs and bomb disposal units. A highlight of the drill were armored vehicles that allow officers to enter low-rise buildings through several points during raids. Let’s take a look.
A drill is underway, simulating a terrorist attack on a second hand car dealership. The assailants are suspected to be armed and holding people hostage. Members of the public rush out of the building.
The National Police Agency’s Special Operations Group arrives at the scene in an armored vehicle, and then subdue all attackers.
Amid concerns of explosive devices at the scene, trained dogs are dispatched to detect their location.
Now onto another drill: a clandestine factory illegally manufacturing guns. The armored vehicle deploys ladders from the roof, to allow the special ops squad to enter the building. This is the antiterrorism center established by the Ministry of the Interior’s National Police Agency. Altogether, 58 officers took part in the large-scale drills on Thursday. Members of the Internal Administration Committee at the Legislative Yuan were present at the scene to oversee the exercises.

The antiterrorism center has trained a lot of outstanding police officers and law enforcement personnel. That is a big morale boost for society, so that we can all continue living in peace.
Another vehicle at the scene was a truck mounted with a ladder, which debuted at the National Day parade last Sunday. The vehicle can be used on missions in low-rise buildings. The top is fitted with two platforms having ladders, which can be extended in any direction. The aerial ladders are quickly secured, with fewer staff required, taking just 10 seconds to fully extend. The vehicle itself is also very fast, reaching speeds in excess of 100 kilometers per hour, making for speedy deployment.
Meanwhile, this armored vehicle is equipped with super thick armour, and bullet-proof glass capable of stopping a 12.7 caliber bullet. The vehicle can carry up to 10 fully outfitted special ops officers and has 13 gun holes to shoot through. The truck also has a stealth-mode switch, to prevent detection at night.
NPA Special Operations Group
The armored vehicle is there to protect the assault team. The ladder truck’s main function is to provide access from several points in raids. These two vehicles are part of our lineup at the NPA Special Operations Group. They greatly upgrade our capabilities for keeping the public order.
The squad is trained to mitigate violent attacks and hostage situations among other missions, boosting Taiwan’s defenses against terrorist attacks.

The first ever online training for Kenya's National Police Service was jointly developed in 2020 to address the unique challenges police officers were facing in enforcing law and order during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The training is the result of collaboration between the NPS, European Union and UNODC - the Regional Office for Eastern Africa and Global eLearning Platform. Developed through the Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery in Kenya (PLEAD), the mandatory course comprises seven e-learning modules that police officers can complete at their own pace on a
computer, tablet or smart phone.

Wu Chi-ming
DPP lawmaker
