The National Liberation Movement (Lëvizja Nacional Çlirimtare or Lëvizja Antifashiste Nacional Çlirimtare (LANÇ)), also translated as National Liberation Front, was an Albanian resistance organization that fought in World War II. It was created on 16 September 1942, in a conference held in Pezë, a village near Tirana. Apart the communist figures which had the majority in the General Council it also included known nationalist figures like Myslym Peza, etc. The Albanian National Liberation Front was later transformed in May 1944 in the government of Albania and its leaders became government members. It was replaced in August 1945 by the Democratic Front.
The Albanian National Wie international Army (Albanian:Ushtria Nacionalclirimtare) was the army created during the National Liberation Movement.
Creation of National Liberation Front
Albanian resistance background
Albania did not put an organized resistance to the Italian invasion of 7 April 1939. However different Albanian groups of patriots such as Mujo Ulqinaku and Abaz Kupi made a brief resistance to the invasion force in Durrës on the day of invasion. Durrës was captured on April 7, Tirana the following day, Shkodër and Gjirokastër on April 9, and almost the entire country by April 10.
The National Liberation Movement (French:Mouvement de Libération Nationale, MLN) was a political party in Burkina Faso.
History
The party was originally established by Joseph Ki-Zerbo in Dakar in Senegal in August 1958. Ki-Zerbo founded the party in order to campaign for a "no" vote in the constitutional referendum in September. After 99% of voters voted for the new constitution, Ki Zerbo moved to Guinea, the only country to oppose the constitution and subsequently become independent.
In 1970 Ki-Zerbo re-established the party to run in the parliamentary elections that year. It received 11% of the vote and won 6 of the 57 seats in the National Assembly.
The Movement of National Liberation (Spanish:Movimiento de Liberación Nacional) (MLN) was a Mexicanleftistpolitical party composed of numerous socialist, Marxist, and peasant activist groups. They operated primarily between 1961 to 1964.
Foundation
The roots of the MLN lay in the Committee to Promote Peace (CIP), founded in July 1959 by Lázaro Cárdenas.
From the CIP came the Provisional Committee for National Sovereignty and Economic Emancipation (CLSNEEP), whose goal was to organize a local chapter within Mexico. On August 5, 1961, the committee announced the formation of the National Liberation Movement. The MLN stated as its priorities; regime change, release of political prisoners, solidarity with Cuba, municipal autonomy for unions and peasant organizations, opposition presence in Congress, weakened presidentialism, and undermined corporatist control. The founding organizations of the MLN was a composition of leftist Marxist parties, the National Peasant Confederation (CNC), the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM), members of the official Institutional Revolutionary Party (Spanish:Partido Revolucionario Institucional) (PRI) party, and the Popular Socialist Party (Spanish:Partido Popular Socialista) (PPS).
Albania (i/ælˈbeɪniə/, al-BAY-nee-ə, or sometimes /ɔːlˈbeɪniə/, awl-BAY-nee-ə; Albanian:Shqipëri/Shqipëria; Gheg Albanian:Shqipni/Shqipnia, Shqypni/Shqypnia), officially known as the Republic of Albania (Albanian:Republika e Shqipërisë; Albanian pronunciation:[ɾɛpuˈblika ɛ ʃcipəˈɾiːs]), is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, the Republic of Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south and southeast. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the west and on the Ionian Sea to the southwest. It is less than 72km (45mi) from Italy, across the Strait of Otranto which connects the Adriatic Sea to the Ionian Sea.
The modern-day territory of Albania was at various points in history part of the Roman provinces of Dalmatia (southern Illyricum), Macedonia (particularly Epirus Nova), and Moesia Superior. The modern Republic became independent after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in Europe following the Balkan Wars. Albania declared independence in 1912 and was recognized the following year. It then became a Principality, Republic, and Kingdom until being invaded by Italy in 1939, which formed Greater Albania. The latter eventually turned into a Nazi German protectorate in 1943. The following year, a socialistPeople's Republic was established under the leadership of Enver Hoxha and the Party of Labour. Albania experienced widespread social and political transformations during the communist era, as well as isolationism from much of the international community. In 1991, the Socialist Republic was dissolved and the Republic of Albania was established.
The toponymAlbania may indicate several different geographical regions: a country in the Balkans; an ancient land in the Caucasus; as well as Scotland, Albania being a Latinization of a Gaelic name for Scotland, Alba. This article will cover etymology, as well as trace the usage of the toponyms and related toponyms and ethnonyms from their earliest known occurrence down to present times.
Albania (Caucasus)
Albania as the name of Caucasian Albania, a state and historical region of eastern Caucasus, that existed on the territory of present-day republic of Azerbaijan (where both of its capitals were located) and partially southern Dagestan.
However, unlike the names of the other two European countries, this name was an exonym given to them by the Romans, as no one knew what these inhabitants called themselves. Compare also the land in Caucasus called Iberia, with the Iberian peninsula in Europe.
Albania (Balkans)
Albania as the name of a region in the Balkans attested in Medieval Latin. It may derive from an ethnonym, Albanoi, the name of an Illyrian tribe.
Some linguists propose a derivation from the Proto-Indo-European root *albho-, which meant 'white'; referring perhaps to the snow-capped mountains of Albania.
Others think the source may be a non-Indo-European root *alb-, meaning "hill, mountain", also present in alp "mountain pasture".
Albania Veneta, Venetian possessions in southern the coastal area of what is now northern Albania and the coast of Montenegro.
Sanjak of Albania, a subdivision of the Rumelia Eyalet of Ottoman Empire in period 1385–1466
Albanian Vilayet, a vilayet of the Ottoman Empire projected in 1912 in the western Balkan Peninsula
Independent Albania, former unrecognized country established in 1912 comprising the territories of Kosovo Vilayet, Monastir Vilayet, Shkodër Vilayet and Janina Vilayet
Republic of Central Albania, a short-lived unrecognized state established on October 16, 1913 with its administrative centre in Durrës, today in Albania
Principality of Albania, a short-lived (March—September 1914) monarchy in Albania constituted by the ambassadors of Great Powers on 29 July 1913

Reasons for the🌴 formation of the National Liberation Movement - NLM | September 19,1954 | Kumasi.
The National Liberation Movement was a Ghanaian political party formed in 1954. Set up by disaffected Ashanti members of the Convention People's Party, who were joined by Kofi Abrefa Busia, the NLM opposed the process of centralization whilst supporting a continuing role for traditional leaders. It was led by Baffour Akoto, linguist to the Asantehene. The party gained some support in the Gold Coast legislative election, 1956 and became the third largest party in the Assembly with 12 seats, behind the Convention People's Party and the Northern People's Party.
The Avoidance of Discrimination Act, passed by Kwame Nkrumah in 1957 outlawed parties based on racial, regional, or religious differences and as such the NLM became part of the newly formed opposition group the United Party.

Fate and the trajectory of national liberation movements
National liberation movements continue to rule in southern Africa, where there is a growing dissatisfaction by many of the citizens. All of the key players during the national liberation era were men on the Left who shared a commitment to anti-imperialism and pan-Africanism. Could these movements be replaced by parties on the Right?

The Identity Trap: A Book Event with Yascha Mounk
Debates over identity, minority rights, and the meaning of social justice remain heated as ever. Their prominent presence in academia, public discourse, and political debate underscores their importance and relevance to a wide range of political and social questions.
In his new book, The Identity Trap: A Story of Ideas and Power in Our Time (Penguin, 2023), political scientist Yascha Mounk argues that in recent decades, these debates are dominated by an unhealthy focus on group identities at the expense of universalist ideals.

The project observes that the loss of knowledge about this liberation heritage is a setback for the significant achievements made in regional development and cooperation in the region, leading to the growth of a “we and they” syndrome at national levels. The outputs of the project will be Modules which illustrate the regional dimensions and linkages of national liberation movements in southern Africa, seeking to generate awareness and educational tools, including curricula for formal education to sustain knowledge about the independence movement across the region and regenerate the shared cohesion among people across borders.
Each Module is a unique reference source that includes a video, print format, and social media access. These can be used for different purposes and adapted for all levels of education, including primary, secondary and tertiary, as well as out-of-school youth.
This is a trailer of the video produced as part of module 1, under the theme Youth in the Liberation Struggle. Exploring the age dimension can help to engage contemporary youth in the shared history, as most of those involved in the NLMs were also Youth.

Join Dr. Mounk and AEI’s Stan Veuger, Yuval Levin, Christine Rosen, and Jenna Silber Storey for a conversation about Dr. Mounk’s book and the ideas, old and new, it engages with.

With the intention of learning from the past and sharing the liberation heritage with the youth of today, the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa in collaboration with the Southern African Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC) are working on the production of resource material on the regional dimensions and linkages of the national liberation movements in southern Africa.

National liberation movements continue to rule in southern Africa, where there is a growing dissatisfaction by many of the citizens. All of the key players during the national liberation era were men on the Left who shared a commitment to anti-imperialism and pan-Africanism. Could these movements be replaced by parties on the Right?
