The film begins with Martha Alston (DeGeneres) in a wedding gown incarcerated in a Mexicanprison. The investigators call her Mrs. Crawford and listen to her explain why she committed murder on her wedding day.
Some time ago, at her younger sister's wedding, Martha is pestered by her family about when she'll get married. At work, she rejects a date with a younger coworker, Walter (John Livingston). Disappointed by her dull Valentine's Dayblind date, she goes home to sulk in front of the TV, where, inundated by romantic imagery, she is prompted to get out of the house.
Martha goes to a bar where she drops her quarter in front of the jukebox. She bends down to get it when a man shows up and selects the same song she would have chosen. He is Whitman Crawford (Pullman), and they instantly hit it off. They go back to his house and have sex. He says he's a poet and an investor. He reads her one of his poems.
In the song, she keeps finds herself attracting the wrong type of man. According to the somber cut, she keeps falling for bad boys despite what her family tells her. She sings: "Bad boys ain't no good/ Good boys ain't no fun,". while the Toronto rapper Drake appears and confesses: "Don't it seem like I'm always there when it matters, but missing most of the other time, a terrible pattern." The song was debuted by Mary on Angie Martinez's Hot 97 show and released as the second single from her tenth studio album My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1).
Composition
"Mr. Wrong" was written by James Scheffer, Kevin Gamble, Aubrey Drake Graham, Cary Gilbert, Leon Huff, Rico Love and Daniel Morris and produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love. It features an interpolation of Billy Paul's 1972 number-one hit "Me and Mrs. Jones." It is a hip-hop/R&B-esque tune. The co-writer and co-producer Rico Love told Rap-Up.com that he based it on his own chequered lovelife: "It's an extremely soulful song that expresses the true level of love that a woman can have for a man who simply is no good for her," said Love. "I wrote it because in many ways I am Mr. Wrong."

Won't you meet me by the river, little darling'? I might just let you see my bad tattoo. Well I was gonna bring you flowers, but I didn't. It's the thought that counts and I think I'm a bit too broke. But there's some change in my ashtray--maybe just enough to pay. For a half pint of somethin', probably make us choke. CHORUS: Well you know I'd rather not go and meet your family. They'd probably send me back where I belong. Don't want to hear about Mr. Right. 'Cause he's out of town tonight. Baby come and spend some time with Mr. Wrong. I drive a one-eyed Malibu without a muffler. And a tape deck that works if you kick it hard enough. And baby if you like to read, I've got some great pornography. And a ten pound flashlight rolling in the trunk. CHORUS Now, do you have a girlfriend and does she look as good as you? Would she like to meet my brother? He'll be out of jail in a month or two. CHORUS
“One deposit to Invest. One deposit for bills ... One deposit for bills ... In the video, which has over 1.9 million views, Rowe says that she and “working two [full-time] WFH jobs get along so good,” as she mouthed the phrase from Mary J Blige’s "Mr. Wrong.".
