Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (Ethiopia)
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (Amharic:የገንዘብ እና የኢኮኖሚ ልማት ሚኒስቴር?) is a ministry within the cabinet of the Government of Ethiopia. It is responsible for general financial management and economic policy of Ethiopia, in addition to the allocation of economic assistance. Formerly the Ministry of Finance, it has its origins in the ministral system introduced by Emperor Menelik II.
A finance minister is an executive or cabinet position in charge of one or more of government finances, economic policy and financial regulation. It may also be a junior minister in the finance department, the British Treasury, for example has four junior ministers.
A finance minister's portfolio has a large variety of names across the world, such as "treasury", "finance", "financial affairs", "economy" or "economic affairs". The position of the finance minister might be named for this portfolio, but it may also have some other name, like "Treasurer" or, in the United Kingdom, "Chancellor of the Exchequer".
The duties of a finance minister differ between countries. Typically, they encompass one or more of government finance, fiscal policy, and financial regulation, but there are significant differences between countries:
in some countries the finance minister might also have oversight of monetary policy (while in other countries that is the responsibility of an independent central bank);
The Ministry of Finance of Saudi Arabia is the principal body for controlling state expenditure in Saudi Arabia. It is currently led by Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf who has been the minister since 2003.
History and profile
The ministry was named as the ministry of finance and national economy until 2003 when the ministry of economy and planning was established and the national economy planning was transferred from it to the latter.
The Ministry of Finance is a portfolio in the Executive Council of Ontario commonly known as the cabinet. The Finance Minister is responsible for managing the fiscal, financial and related regulatory affairs of the Canadian province of Ontario. The cabinet posted used to be called the Treasurer of Ontario and was changed to be in line with other post in other Canadian provinces.
For most of the period from 1867 until 1993, the minister was called the treasurer or provincial treasurer.
The ministry were renamed the Ministry of Economics in 1956 and the minister became known as Minister in charge of Economics instead of treasurer. From January to December 1961, the ministry became the Ministry of Economics and Federal and Provincial Relations. The title of treasurer was revived in December 1961 with the minister also often holding the secondary title of minister of economics or some variation after 1968. Frank Miller had the sole title of minister of economics from 1978 until 1981 when he was given the additional title of treasuruer. At various times in the 1960s and 1970s the minister also held the titles of chairman of the management board of cabinet, chairman of the treasury board and/or minister of revenue. This practice was revived in recent years with Greg Sorbara acting as finance minister and chair of both the management board and the treasury board .
Ethiopia (/ˌiːθiˈoʊpiə/; Amharic:ኢትዮጵያ?, ʾĪtyōṗṗyā, listen), officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (የኢትዮጵያ ፌዴራላዊ ዲሞክራሲያዊ ሪፐብሊክ, ye-Ītyōṗṗyā Fēdēralāwī Dīmōkrāsīyāwī Rīpeblīklisten), is a sovereign state located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Eritrea to the north and northeast, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, and Kenya to the south. With over 100 million inhabitants, Ethiopia is the most populous landlocked country in the world, as well as the second-most populous nation on the African continent after Nigeria. It occupies a total area of 1,100,000 square kilometres (420,000sqmi), and its capital and largest city is Addis Ababa.
Some of the oldest evidence for anatomically modern humans has been found in Ethiopia, which is widely considered the region from which Homo sapiensfirst set out for the Middle East and points beyond. According to linguists, the first Afroasiatic-speaking populations settled in the Horn region during the ensuing Neolithic era. Tracing its roots to the 2nd millennium BC, Ethiopia was a monarchy for most of its history. During the first centuries AD the Kingdom of Aksum maintained a unified civilization in the region. followed by Abyssinia circa 1137.
Ancient Aethiopia (Greek Αἰθιοπία) first appears as a geographical term in classical sources in reference to the Upper Nile region, as well as all certain areas south of the Sahara desert and south of the Atlantic Ocean. Its earliest mention is in the works of Homer: twice in the Iliad, and three times in the Odyssey. The Greek historian Herodotus specifically uses it to refer to such parts of Sub-Saharan Africa as were then known within the inhabitable world.
In classical antiquity, Africa (or Libya) referred to what is now known as Northwest Africa (Maghreb) and south of the Libyan desert and Western Sahara, including all desert land west of the southern Nile river. Geographical knowledge of the continent gradually grew, with the 1st century AD Greek travelogue the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea describing areas as far south as Zimbabwe. Αἰθίοψ (Aithiops), meaning "burnt-face", was used as a vague term for dark-skinned populations since the time of Homer. It was applied to such dark-skinned populations as came within the range of observation of the ancient geographers i.e. primarily in what was then Nubia, and with the expansion of geographical knowledge, successively extended to certain other areas below the Sahara.

New Canadian finance minister insists Feds "very proud" of Fall Economic Statement | FULL
Newly appointed Canadian Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc defended the federal government’s Fall Economic Statement in the House of Commons Tuesday, saying the Trudeau government is “very proud” of its fiscal update.
LeBlanc said the economic statement would support “Canadians with serious affordability challenges.”
Conservative MP Andrew Scheer called the political turmoil resulting from former finance minister Chrystia Freeland’s bombshell resignation a “gongshow” and called the $62 billion deficit announced in the economic outlook a “gut punch to Canadians.”
“They’re so proud of that fall budget that they tabled it in the House of Commons and ran,” Scheer said.

Conservatives and the Bloc Quebecois both called for an election, with Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet saying that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “does not have the confidence of the House.”
Jagmeet Singh renewed his call for Trudeau to resign but did not say whether his party would back a Conservative non-confidence motion.

Dominic LeBlanc is sworn in as Canada's new finance minister after Chrystia Freeland steps down Melissa Nakhavoly with whether this cabinet shake-up can restore confidence in the liberal government.
The Leader of the Official Opposition Pierre Poilievre called it “chaos” in question period on Monday after Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned just hours before she was expected to deliver the Fall Economic Statement - itself coming weeks late.
After Freeland was no longer going to present the fall statement, the job “automatically to the industry minister, who immediately resigned — like on the spot — which then went down the line. And the next person in order was the famous two Randy's. And they're not available to do the job either,” Poilievre said.
The Conservative Leader then challenged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to “have the courage” to show his face and put in a “confidence vote tonight.”
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh stated that “the prime minister cannot remain in that position. Will he resign?”

Calls for Trudeau to Resign After His Finance Minister Abandons Ship | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in trouble again. His Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Chrystia Freeland, has resigned. Freeland slammed Trudeau's "costly Political Gimmicks" in her resignation letter. Freeland's departure led the Canadian opposition to demand Trudeau's resignation as well. But Trudeau shows no signs of bowing out. He has appointed a loyalist to the finance minister's post. It seems that Trudeau will forge ahead with his plan to buy himself some popularity.
