Parts of South Africa have suffered infrastructural damage, particularly roads, in the past months due to severe weather conditions. KwaZulu-Natal has been the most affected since last year's April floods. Newly appointed Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga will have to hit the ground running to tackle the problems, including rail infrastructure. Chikunga is not new to the portfolio as she took over from Fikile Mbalula after being a deputy in the department since 2012. She speaks to Xoli Mngambi about her plans.

SNP minister, Neil Gray, this week admitted it may be cheaper to scrap one of the delayed ferries and start again - but vowed to push ahead with the costly vessel anyway.
SNP minister, Neil Gray, this week admitted it may be cheaper to scrap one of the delayed ferries and start again - but vowed to push ahead with the costly vessel anyway.
With Scottish ferries coming under the Economy portfolio, the Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Fair Work and Energy, Neil Gray made the embarrassing announcement.
Yet the Transport Secretary, Kevin Stewart, didn't seem too interested as he spent most of the statement on his phone and then left the chamber halfway through open questions.
Mr Stewart managed to last less than 21 minutes into the debate.

Greek transport minister resigns after deadly train crash – BBC News
Greece’s minister for infrastructure and transport, Kostas Karamanlis, has resigned in the aftermath of a deadly train crash in the country.
At least 36 people have been killed after a passenger train and freight train collided, and dozens of people have been injured.
Mr Karamanlis visited the crash site in the aftermath of the collision, and said: "when something so tragic happens, it is impossible to continue and pretend like it didn’t happen”.
Meanwhile, a local station master based at Larissa, which the passenger train had passed through, has been arrested.
Police say the 59-year-old has been charged with manslaughter by negligence and grievous bodily harm by negligence.

CEOs for Air Canada, WestJet Airlines, and Sunwing testified on Thursday before the House of Commons transport committee over the chaos and disruptions during the holiday travel season.
Canada’s Transport Minister Omar Alghabra and the CEOs of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver airports testified as well.
Both airlines and the airport executives admitted to some failures in operations, however, they also blamed extreme weather conditions, technical difficulties and staff shortages for the chaotic situation.
Minister Alghabra denied he was “missing in action” and told the committee he was being briefed multiple times a day by his staff as they spoke with Canada’s major airlines, who told the committee earlier they did not hear from Alghabra directly during the holiday season.
