Maryland Route 60 (MD 60) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known for most of its length as Leitersburg Pike, the state highway runs 7.27 miles (11.70km) from the intersection of Potomac Street and Northern Avenue in Hagerstown east to the Pennsylvania state line near Leitersburg, where the highway continues as Pennsylvania Route 316 (PA 316). MD 60 connects Hagerstown with Leitersburg and Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. MD 60 was paved over the course of an old turnpike from Hagerstown toward Waynesboro in the mid-1920s. The state highway was reconstructed in the mid-1950s, including the highway's bypass of Leitersburg.
Route description
MD 60 begins at an intersection with Northern Avenue, Eastern Boulevard, and Potomac Avenue in the city of Hagerstown. Northern Avenue heads west past St. Maria Goretti High School. Eastern Boulevard heads east toward the historic home Rockland Farm. Potomac Street heads south toward downtown Hagerstown, passing through the Oak Hill and Potomac-Broadway historic districts and by the Zion Reformed United Church of Christ and the Hagerstown Armory. MD 60 heads north as Potomac Avenue, leaving the city limits of Hagerstown before reaching a junction with Marsh Pike, which heads north toward the suburbs of Paramount and Long Meadow. MD 60 continues northeast as Leitersburg Pike through farmland, passing the Dorsey-Palmer House before crossing Marsh Run.
Route 60 serves the cities and communities on the eastern side of the Los Angelesmetropolitan area and runs along the south side of the San Gabriel Valley. The west terminus of the freeway is at the East Los Angeles Interchange complex. The east terminus is at the junction with Interstate 10 (I-10) in Beaumont. The freeway is known as the Pomona Freeway west of its junction with State Route 91 and Interstate 215 in Riverside. East of this interchange the freeway is known as the Moreno Valley Freeway until its terminus at its junction with Interstate 10. The freeway shares the alignment of the Orange Freeway, State Route 57 for some 2 miles (3.2km) in Diamond Bar and also shares the alignment of Interstate 215 for about 5 miles (8.0km) in Riverside. The route takes its number from former U.S. Route 60. Route 60 terminates on the east coast at Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Route 60 is an east–west state highway running through the northern suburbs of Boston.
Route description
Route 60 begins at U.S. Route 20 in Waltham, just east of downtown. It then heads eastward, passing through the center of Belmont before intersecting in Arlington with Route 2 at that route's Exit 59 eastbound. From there, Route 60 joins U.S. Route 3 and Route 2A for a brief 0.1 miles (0.16km) concurrency, starting at Massachusetts Avenue. It then turns eastward off of that route, crossing the Mystic River into Medford.
In Medford it passes the West Medfordcommuter rail station before intersecting Route 38 at Winthrop Square. From there Route 60 heads into downtown Medford, splitting at Main Street (just north of the Mystic Valley Parkway and Route 16) before rejoining at Medford City Hall to pass under Interstate 93 at Exit 32. Route 60 continues eastward, crossing Route 28 (the Fellsway West) at Stevens Square before entering Malden. In Malden, Route 60 passes through the west end past Highland Avenue and downtown, passing the Malden Center MBTA station, which has access to both the Orange Line and the Haverhill Line. Route 60 intersects Route 99, and goes through Linden Square in the eastern part of town before entering the city of Revere.
In Revere, the route intersects U.S. Route 1 at Copeland Circle, where the Northeast Expressway was planned to continue northward to carry Interstate 95 to its current path north of Route 128. (The route was never completed due to opposition, but the ramp stubs are visible crossing the northeastern part of the circle.) From Copeland Circle, Route 60 continues eastward, south of the Rumney Marsh Reservation. It crosses Route 107 at Brown Circle before turning southward as American Legion Highway, finally ending at the intersection of Route 1A and the eastern end of Route 16, at Mahoney Circle. Route 60's right of way continues through the circle and links directly to that of Route 1A's.
One of the original Thirteen Colonies, Maryland is considered to be the birthplace of religious freedom in America, when it was formed in the early 17th century as an intended refuge for persecuted Catholics from England by George Calvert. George Calvert was the first Lord Baltimore and the first English proprietor of the then-Maryland colonial grant. Maryland was the seventh state to ratify the United States Constitution.
Maryland is one of the smallest states in terms of area, as well as one of the most densely populated states with nearly 6 million residents. With its close proximity to Washington, D.C., and a highly diversified economy spanning manufacturing, services, and biotechnology, Maryland has the highest median household income of any state.
Maryland County is a county in the southeastern portion of the West African nation of Liberia. One of 15 counties that comprise the first-level of administrative division in the nation, it has two districts. Harper serves as the capital with the area of the county measuring 2,297 square kilometres (887sqmi). As of the 2008 Census, it had a population of 136,404, making it the seventh most populous county in Liberia.
Named after the State of Maryland in the United States, it was an independent country as the Republic of Maryland from 1854 until it joined Liberia in 1857. The most populous city in the county is Pleebo with 22,963 residents, while Maryland's County Superintendent is Nazarine Tubman. The county is bordered by Grand Kru County to the west and River Gee County to the north. The eastern part of Maryland borders the nation of Côte d'Ivoire, separated by the Cavalla River.
History
Maryland was first established as a colony of the Maryland State Colonization Society 1834, but was not granted independence until 1854. Following a referendum in 1853, the colony declared its independence from the Colonization Society and formed the Republic of Maryland. It held the land along the coast between the Grand Cess and San Pedro Rivers. In 1856, the independent state of Maryland (Africa) requested military aid from Liberia in a war with the Grebo and Kru peoples who were resisting the Maryland settlers' efforts to control their trade in slaves. President Roberts assisted the Marylanders, and a joint military campaign by both groups of Americo-Liberian colonists resulted in victory. Following a referendum in February 1857 the Republic of Maryland joined Liberia as Maryland County on 6 April 1857. As of May 2004, a DRC census estimated the county's population to be 107,100.
The Maryland automobile was built by the Sinclair-Scott Company of Baltimore, Maryland, between 1907 and 1910.
Sinclair-Scott was a maker of food canning machinery and in the early 1900s started to make car parts. One of their customers, Ariel, failed to pay and in recompense Sinclair-Scott took over production, moved the factory to Baltimore, and marketed the car as the Maryland.
The car was powered by a 30hp four-cylinder, overhead camshaft engine. The Ariel design was initially unchanged, and the Maryland was originally available as a four-seat roadster or a five-seat touring car. The wheelbase was later lengthened from the initial 100 inches (2,500mm) to 116 inches (2,900mm). Limousines became available in 1908 and town cars in 1909. Prices ranged from $2500 to $3200.
Production stopped in 1910 after 871 had been made as producing the cars was not profitable. The company returned to the manufacture of food-canning machinery.

Exploring California's Highway 39 - Closed For Over 40 Years
California State Route 39 as it heads into the mountains north of Azusa has been called California's Forbidden Highway or California's Forgotten Highway, as the last four and a half miles of it have been closed since 1978, preventing it from connecting with State Route 2. Because of the closure and dead end, the road sees very little traffic, despite being only miles from the second largest city in the United States.
In this video, we drive up the road through the Angeles National Forest (the same road part of Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was filmed on) and check out what there is to see along the way. We then explore the section of road that has been closed for over 40 years, a road that was once considered one of the most scenic in California.
