Julia Fordham (born 10 August 1962) is a British singer-songwriter. Her professional career started in the early 1980s, under the name "Jules Fordham", as a backing singer for Mari Wilson and Kim Wilde, before signing a recording contract of her own later that decade. Fordham is now based in California.
Career
In 1988, Fordham released her first album on Circa Records, simply titled Julia Fordham. After a round of publicity including an appearance on the BBC1 Wogan chat show in April 1988, the album reached No. 20 in the UK and eventually earned a platinum disc. It contained the Top 40single "Happy Ever After" (which peaked at No. 27 in August 1988) The album also charted in the US, reaching No. 118 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Fordham released her second album, Porcelain, in 1989. The album charted higher than her debut (No. 13) and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry. It was Fordham's only album to chart on the US Top 100, reaching No. 74.
In late 1991, Fordham released her third album, Swept. The album reached No. 33 in the UK and contained the Top 40 hit "(Love Moves In) Mysterious Ways", which peaked at No. 19 in early 1992 and was also featured in the 1991 film The Butcher's Wife.
Julia Fordham is the debut album by English singer-songwriter Julia Fordham, released in 1988. The album includes the Top 40 single "Happy Ever After" along with three further singles "The Comfort of Strangers", "Woman of the 80's" and "Where Does the Time Go?".
After their performance at the 2005 Bodø Hardcore festival, The Faceless Masses website praised them as "one of the fastest and most technical bands in Norway today." After releasing an EP, they began recording a full-length debut album which was intended for an early 2007 release, but due to illness within the band, this release was postponed until 2008.
History
Manhattan Skyline was formed in Oslo in 2002 by drummer Steffen Sæther-Larsen, guitarist Fredrik Melby and vocalist Hans Marius Midtgarden. Subsequently, members of Kaospilot, Slingshot Idol, The Break Quintet, and Next Life joined and left.
In October 2003, they recorded their debut EP, Tarantula Arms, a 3" MCD of seven songs featuring off-time rhythm patterns.
Upon the departure of bassist Anders Braut Simonsen and guitarist Christian Johansen, the band used several part-time bassists while searching for a permanent member. A long search resulted in the selection of Sigurd Mæle.
The song was co-written by keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy. The song starts with Furuholmen playing a Roland Juno-60 with Preset Number " 16 ", The Harpsichord - in F major, before kicking into a hard rock-style chorus with a guitar riff in D minor. In the official A-ha biography, The Swing of Things 1985-2010 by Jan Omdahl, Furuholmen said: "Manhattan Skyline" was perhaps one of the most inspired cut and paste projects that Paul and I did. I wrote the quiet part. Paul wrote the rock part. I thought I was doing a classic when I worked on the opening riff. Well, okay, it is a classic, actually."
The B-side, "We're Looking for the Whales", was recorded at a concert at Fairfield Hall, Croydon in London on 19 January 1987.
The single version omits the lyric "you see things in the depths of my eyes that my love's run dry" that is present twice on the album version during the song's main chorus.
Manhattan is often said to be the economic and cultural center of the United States and hosts the United Nations Headquarters. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and Manhattan is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization: the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many multinationalmedia conglomerates are based in the borough. Historically documented to have been purchased by Dutch colonists from Native Americans in 1626, for the equivalent of US$1050, Manhattan real estate has since become among the most expensive in the world, with the value of Manhattan Island, including real estate, estimated to exceed US$3 trillion in 2013.

Strong and stable
Still standing where it always stood
Irreplaceable more than capable

The subject of the video for "Manhattan Skyline" is newsprint. The words on the newspaper at the end of the video, "Palme-saken nær en løsning?" translates as "Palme case nearly solved?" and was a real headline from the time discussing a still-unsolved murder of former prime minister of Sweden.

I totally adored you I would have stuck by you Through thick and thin I would have let you Touch my pure and Discerning skin I almost fell in love with The man you almost are I almost stopped myself From falling in too far Can I just say You have done a foolish thing You walked away From all the good My solid love could bring Now I hear you're hanging round With some mousey girl From some small town Foolish thing Foolish thing Your friends warned me about you They said you were more trouble Than you're worth They said you couldn't give me All that I deserve chorus
