Colin James Hay (born 29 June 1953) is a Scottish Australian musician and actor who made his mark during the 1980s as lead vocalist of the Australian band Men at Work, and later as a solo artist. Hay's music has been frequently used by actor and director Zach Braff in his work, subsequently leading to a career rebirth in the mid-2000s.
Hay was born in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland, but emigrated to Australia with his family at age 14 in 1967.
In 1978, Hay met Ron Strykert and the men began playing acoustic music as a duo. Hay and Strykert formed the core of the band Men at Work, with Hay on vocals, guitar and keyboards, and Strykert, on guitar, vocals and bass guitar. Hay and Strykert added Jerry Speiser (drums), John Rees (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Greg Ham (flute, saxophone, keyboards, vocals). The group released their debut album Business as Usual in 1981.
In 1982, the success of Men at Work and their albums Business as Usual and Cargo prompted Hay to relocate to Los Angeles. He settled in the Topanga region of the city and has resided in the USA since and in January of 2016 became a U.S. citizen .
Colin Hay (born 19 November 1968), is Professor of Political Sciences at Sciences Po, Paris and Affiliate Professor of Political Analysis at the University of Sheffield. He studied Social and Political Science at Clare College, Cambridge University and moved to the Department of Sociology at Lancaster University to research his PhD under the supervision of Bob Jessop. He then worked at the University of Birmingham, where he was head of the Department of Political Science and International Studies between 2002 and 2005. He moved to Paris in 2013.
The "Lost Generation" was the generation that came of age during World War I. The term was popularized by Ernest Hemingway, who used it as one of two contrasting epigraphs for his novel, The Sun Also Rises. In that volume Hemingway credits the phrase to Gertrude Stein, who was then his mentor and patron. This generation included artists and a group of writers who came of age during the war such as F. Scott Fitzgerald,T. S. Eliot, James Joyce, Sherwood Anderson, John Dos Passos, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, Waldo Peirce, Isadora Duncan, Abraham Walkowitz, Alan Seeger, Franz Kafka, Henry Miller, Aldous Huxley, Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Erich Maria Remarque and the composers Sergei Prokofiev, Paul Hindemith, George Gershwin, and Aaron Copland.
In A Moveable Feast, published after Hemingway's and Stein's deaths, Hemingway claims that Stein heard the phrase from a garage owner who serviced Stein's car. When a young mechanic failed to repair the car quickly enough, the garage owner shouted at the boy, "You are all a "génération perdue." Stein, in telling Hemingway the story, added, "That is what you are. That's what you all are ... all of you young people who served in the war. You are a lost generation."
"Lost Generation" is a song by English hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks. The song was released as a digital download in the United Kingdom on 25 August 2013 as the lead single from their second studio album, Roaring 20s (2013). The song was written by Jordan Stephens, Harley Alexander-Sule, Ant Whiting, Emily Phillips and Pete Cannon. The song has peaked to #6 on the UK Singles Chart.
Robert Copsey of Digital Spy gave the song a positive review, stating:
"After successfully establishing themselves as a group who aren't afraid of telling it how it is, Rizzle Kicks have painted a rather bleak picture of today's yoof on their latest track. On paper it sounds like career suicide, but as always they pull it off with their razor-sharp lyrics and take-it-or-leave-it attitude. "Hashtag trends, we make people go clap clap yeah," they quip over a plodding hip-hop brass section, before having a pop at Jeremy Kyle, John Terry and fellow popstars who buy YouTube views. "Why is everybody so PC?/ It's not my fault if you take offence," they conclude - and if we're honest, we couldn't agree more." .
Lost Generation was the generation that came of age during World War I.

Album: Topanga 1994 Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon I'll stand on the bow, feel the waves come crashing Come crashing down, down, down, on me And you say, be still my love Open up your heart Let the light shine in But don't you understand I already have a plan I'm waiting for my real life to begin When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened But in my dreams, I slew the dragon And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again And you say, just be here now Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin Let me throw one more dice I know that I can win I'm waiting for my real life to begin Any minute now, my ship is coming in I'll keep checking the horizon And I'll check my machine, t...

Perhaps most importantly, they escaped there because they could get a lot more stuff for their money due to a strong American dollar compared to a weaker French franc. Don't wait up
For her tonight
Cause she won't be coming home
Don't wake up
Till it gets light
By then she'll be long gone
A restless heart has set it's sail
She can feel the waves washing over
She knows what life with you entails
You love her strength you despise your weakness
Don't wait up
For her tonight
Cause she won't be coming home
Don't wake up
Till it gets light
The dogs are scratching at the door
Your jealous heart has won the day
You can feel the darkness creeping over
She paid the man and sailed away
