🎤 Lyrics: George Ezra - Budapest
[Verse 1]
My house in Budapest, my
My hidden treasure chest
Golden grand piano
My beautiful castillo
[Refrain]
You, ooh, you, ooh
I'd leave it all
[Verse 2]
My acres of a land
I have achieved
It may be hard for you to
Stop and believe
[Refrain]
But for you, ooh, you, ooh
I'd leave it all
Oh, for you, ooh, you, ooh
I'd leave it all
[Chorus]
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And, baby, if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
[Verse 3]
My many artifacts
The list goes on
If you just say the words, I'll
I'll up and run
[Refrain]
Oh, to you, ooh, you, ooh
I'd leave it all
Oh, for you, ooh, ooh
I'd leave it all
[Chorus]
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And, baby, if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And, baby, if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
[Post-Chorus]
A-ooh
A-ooh
[Verse 4]
My friends and family
They don't understand
They fear they'll lose so much
If you take my hand
[Refrain]
But for you, ooh, you, ooh
I'd lose it all
Oh, for you, ooh, you, ooh
I'd lose it all
[Chorus]
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And, baby, if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And, baby, if you hold me
Then all of this will go away
[Verse 5]
My house in Budapest, my
My hidden treasure chest
Golden grand piano
My beautiful castillo
[Refrain]
You, ooh, you, ooh
I'd leave it all
Oh, for you, ooh, you, ooh
I'd leave it all

Budapest is one of the coolest cities to visit in Europe, but when there are tourists there are scammers waiting to get their money, backpack, or sanity. So here are some of the scams that we have seen and heard about in Budapest, Hungary. Overall Budapest is a pretty safe city to visit, and you most likely won't have any of these scams happen to you, but it is better to be prepared, so if you are visiting Buda Castle or walking around the historic downtown you are aware.

What are the Top 10 Things to Do in Budapest? In this video we take a look at this question from a Locals point of view and show what we personally think are the best things you can do if you visit the Hungarian capital.
You'll surely find information online about top attractions of Budapest like the Hungarian National Parliament, The Saint Stephens Basilica, The Matthias Church, Fisherman's Bastion or the Heroes Square. But in this video we try to look at things to actually DO as you spend time in the city visiting some of the famous landmarks.
Some of the suggestions relate to areas we have covered in Past videos, for more information on those, check out the links below:
Related to Food Markets, we covered the Grand Market Hall and it's surrounding in this video:
https://youtu.be/ONkyegs1kQk
We also recommend to visit some of the Parks or Nature areas such as:
Margaret Island:
https://youtu.be/gMmF_l6Ziq0
Varosliget City Park:
https://youtu.be/gwGRdeUyx0w
Normafa:
https://youtu.be/sLZnltPJe9U
We'll be releasing a video in the future about Bars of Budapest including some ruin bars, make sure to check back to see that once we release it! (Best is to Subscribe to the channel so you won't miss it!)
We mention places where you can view Budapest from the top, one such place is the Buda Castle District:
https://youtu.be/palGX3OkwN4
When it comes to Thermal Baths, we have covered the two most popular ones here:
Szechenyi Thermal Bath:
https://youtu.be/8p_VzXCp-MQ
Gellert Thermal Bath:
https://youtu.be/MyEfEc48FaA
If you want to see more of Budapest by Night, below video gives an excellent taste of it:
https://youtu.be/FEEUpNOCTgc
Budapest is full of excellent food places and restaurants. We always recommend a few in our videos where we cover specific areas like the ones above, but there are also a few more where the video is mostly about tasty food:
Bartók Béla Boulevard:
https://youtu.be/qlo_8hEcqfw
Pozsonyi út area:
https://youtu.be/_Es1fHMOf6s
Walking is amazing in Budapest, and the architecture is a feast for the eyes. In the below video we took a nice long walk to admire some of the unique facades of the city:

🇭🇺 10 things to do in Budapest ⬇️
☕️ 1. New York Cafe - one of the most beautiful cafes in the world, coffees here are steep but worth it for the experience.
💦 2. Secret Garden Spa – a quiet hidden oasis with whirlpool, jacuzzi, steam room, and a Finnish sauna.
🍳3. Brunch at Twenty Six – must-visit for a banging brunch in Budapest surrounded by tropical plants
📚4. Ervin Szabó Library – one of the most beautiful libraries in Europe, housed in the 19th-century neo-baroque Wenckheim Palace.
⛴️ 5. Danube River Cruise – best way to see the city with sparkling Hungarian wine 🥂 you can book 1 hour or 90 min cruises with unlimited drinks.
🌅 6. Fisherman's Bastion – come here at sunrise for amazing panoramic views across Budapest, you can access the upper terraces for FREE in the morning before 9 am.
🍺 7. Szimpla Kert – the first bar to open within the ruins left behind after WWII. Inside you’ll find a maze of eclectic rooms & courtyards, adorned with quirky art installations and sculptures from disco balls, a disused Trabant car, empty bathtubs and vintage televisions.
🎄8. Christmas Markets - Voted Europe's Best Christmas Market! This year the markets will be open from November 17th 2024
⛪️ 9. St. Stephen's Basilica – on top of church sits a cupola which gives you access to 360-degree views over Budapest and St. Stephen’s Square. You can either climb the 364 steps (no thanks!) or take the elevator directly to the rooftop.
🍹10. Leo Rooftop Bar – the best spot for sunset cocktails with views of the Hungarian Parliament Building and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge. Try their Tokaji Admiral Highball which combines whisky, sweet Tokaji wine, lemon and pineapple.

Wonders of Hungary - Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Budapest
The Liszt Academy is perhaps the most sublime sanctuary of the musical history of Hungary. As such, it is also very pleasing architecturally: a well-ornated Art Nouveau masterpiece from the beginning of the 20th century. Since its renovation, it has returned to its former glory, so the concerts here are not only musical but also visual experiences. Take a short tour with Wonders of Hungary.

HAVASI — The Storm Premiere at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music
This video was recorded at the world premiere of 'HAVASI Symphonic' at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest on the 18th of September, 2009. The original release (https://youtu.be/Kk5itF5YHvw) has gained more than 2 million views from more than 200 countries. 'The Storm' has become the most loved of HAVASI’s compositions. Whether it is performed in a solo piano concert or a huge arena show, it is always a highlight, richly applauded by the audience. It has been performed countless times in many different musical arrangements. Harmony - Liszt Academy Symphony Orchestra
When the students perform in the Grand Hall of the university they don’t miss looking up at the decorative lights on the ceiling. Harmony is not only just a synonym of chords in music but also means that musicians are in line with each other – for example in a symphony orchestra.

In 2013 Golden Globe winner singer Lisa Gerrard joined HAVASI on stage along with a huge choir and symphony orchestra to present a unique interpretation to an audience of 24,000 in Budapest.

“When the storm breaks, each man acts in accordance with his own nature. Some are dumb with terror, some flee, some hide. And some spread their wings like eagles and soar on the wind.”
Composers can rarely describe their inner-most thoughts and feelings in words. However, the quote above beautifully matches up with what HAVASI had in his mind when he wrote 'The Storm'.

Budapest's Liszt Academy has recently reopened its doors after a major and successful renovation.
Whilst enhancing its prestigious musical past this Hungarian institution, both a music university and a concert hall, is ambitiously projecting itself towards the future and reinventing its image.
"The building is beyond definition, the abundance in motifs and ornaments makes it unique, and the extent of their significance is still to be completely revealed. From these treasures from the past we are trying to project a modern brand," says Imre Szabó Stein, Head of Communications.
The Academy, which was founded by Liszt in 1875, moved to the present wonderful Art Nouveau building in 1907. Some of the greatest Hungarian musicians were trained here and top 20th century artists have performed in its breathtaking concert hall.
András Batta is the Academy's President. "Many musicians came here, big Russian artists, Richter, Rostropovich, they loved the hall, its special atmosphere. Through that, artists and the audience can get closer because the shape of the hall is like a bell, the artist is the clapper, and it's as if the audience echoed this kind of 'bell', " he says.
Some of today's greatest Hungarian musicians performed at the reopening gala from pianist Bogányi to violinists Katalin Kokas and Barnabás Kelemen who also teach at the Academy.
"This is the temple of music, this is a shrine. And I always feel the same happiness when I enter this building, this is my alma mater. I was educated here from the age of 12: everything I have, I got it here, and it's what I can offer my students," explains Katalin Kokas.
"I'd like to say that my grandfather was one of the most influential gipsy orchestra leaders in the '30s. I only knew him from old black and white films. My mother hardly remembers him because he died young, but blood is thicker than water...that's why I really like playing gipsy music," adds Barnabás Kelemen.
At the gala they played a few violin duos by Béla Bartók, a composer who somehow contributed to make Barnabás and Katalin a couple also in real life.
"At seventeen we got together thanks to the Bartók duos, and at that moment we realised we were made one for the other. We didn't know at that time what the other thought about music, we just realised it was perfect harmony, and the differences we had integrated with each other," she says.
In this story you can hear fragments of the following pieces:
- Johannes Brahms: Hungarian Dance No. 5
- Béla Bartók: 44 Duos for Two Violins (BB 104, excerpts)
- Ernst von Dohnányi, Piano Quintet in C Minor, op. 1 - Allegro

The very first day, on my very first visit to Budapest, as I was meandering the city’s streets, there was a building that stopped me dead in my tracks.
Every inch of the building facade was drenched in stunning Art Nouveau style, and I was immediately in love.
This concert hall and music academy was founded by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt in 1875, and is still Hungary's most prestigious music school.
With stained glass windows made by Miksa Róth.
The foyer has 22 glazed orbs from the famous Zsolnay factory of Pécs.
According to tradition, the ‘spirit of music’ resides in ONE of these orbs.
Just prior or musicianship exams, student race to touch each of the orbs before the test, hoping the Spirit of Music will somehow inspire them.
At the Franz Liszt Academy of Music building, there are Greek Mythology references are in every detail.
The highlight of the tour, is undoubtably the Grand Hall.
Symbolic vegetation of the laurel tree dominates the entire room.
I beg you to take the 2-hour guided tour of the Academy.
Every mosaic, fresco, and mural is explained in detail.
Every metaphor in the design and architecture is pointed out and explored.
The guided tour only deepened my love for this incredible building.
Some tours come with a mini-concert featuring one of the Academy’s star pupils or instructors.
If you want to enjoy an actual concert in the midst of this bewildering beauty, premium seats at run about $15.
So take the tour, grope some orbs, go greek, get down with some musical masters, and feel the spirit of music
At the Franz Liszt Academy building.

Dance is a performing art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value, and is acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture.[nb 1] Dance can be categorized and described by its choreography, by its repertoire of movements, or by its historical period or place of origin.

An important distinction is to be drawn between the contexts of theatrical and participatory dance,[4] although these two categories are not always completely separate; both may have special functions, whether social, ceremonial, competitive, erotic, martial, or sacred/liturgical. Other forms of human movement are sometimes said to have a dance-like quality, including martial arts, gymnastics, cheerleading, figure skating, synchronized swimming, marching bands, and many other forms of athletics.

Never been a supporter of Orban but a very harsh critic of his rather, and even though the English translation/subtitles to this excerpt were done by me, I want to distance myself from its content as I strongly oppose and reject all of Prime Minister Orban's pseudo-reasoning here, and in general. The video's sole purpose is deterrence: to show the world -- and especially moderate right wingers of any nation who may have defended him in the past -- what this person has actually become, where right-extremism does inevitably lead to.
The speech was made on the 31th annual Hungarian right wing political convention of the "Free University and School Camp of Bálványos" (nickname: Tusványos) in Tusnádfürdő on 23 July 2022, Transylvania, Romania.
It is unfortunate that the scientific term "species" and the unscientific, ideological term "race" both translate to "faj" in Hungarian. Although everybody with an elementary school degree should know that there is only one human species living on Earth: the Homo Sapiens Sapiens. The word "rassz" (race) could have been used for disambiguation,, but Orbán omitted it on purpose to avoid making his number one target audience, the uneducated/dumb masses of his cult followers uneasy. This way they have no problem buying Orban's religious bullshit excuse, claim of "accidental misspeak" or his claim that the whole text should be understood solely in the context of cultural differences... As if any of that would remove the speech's inherently racist nature.
I have no doubt that Orban and his neo-fascist views will be more than welcome at certain places in the world. Next stop: the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the US with the likes of Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson among the republican attendance.
Subtitle remarks:
*1 = is a populist lie, the reduction (as well as regression) of Hungarian populace has overall accelerated over the course of Orban's 12 consecutive years in office with political supermajority
*2 = the Austrians/Germans stopped the Turks at Vienna

𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗞𝗦 - It is more than music, it is an orchestra. It is more than an orchestra, it is a fellowship. It does not matter who you are, where you come from. In fact it does not matter where you will continue on your way. It does not matter how old you are, if you are working as an unskilled worker or a top manager. It does not matter if your instrument is worth a cheap meal or a new car. There are no status symbols, only genuine symbols, just as many as we are. Even if we are many, we are not just a loud crowd. We are not alike, but we are not different either. We all need to be there, to be someone together and you are exactly that person we can not miss.
𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗞𝗦 was founded by a group of friends and musicians in Szeged, Hungary, 2017. The aim of the initiative is to bring live music, including rock music, to as many people as possible, and to provide a concert experience for amateurs who have only been able to play at home so far, in addition to professional and experienced musicians. Participants in CityRocks include children in the same way as the older age group. There is no lower or upper age limit. At the concerts so far, the youngest instrumental participant was 8 and the oldest was 74 years old. Another basic goal of CityRocks is to create a cohesive, music-loving and cultivating community, in addition to promoting live music and rock.
Following the pioneering initiative of the Italian Rockin1000, CityRocks first organized its special rock flashmob in Szeged in 2018, and since then they have given major orchestra concerts and a full-day music program in several Hungarian cities and abroad (Transylvania).
Every city who invites our project, becomes the capital of live music and be part of this unique community for one day. It is not just about music, but it is the connection between us.
Join us to be a member of the biggest rock band in Central Europe. Soon you will realize that you joined much more than a loud crowd.

AC/DC - Highway to Hell lyrics:
Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me around
Hey Satan, paid my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey mama, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land, whoo!
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
Don't stop me
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway
Yeah, highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
Highway to hell
And I'm going down
All the way
Whoa!
I'm on the highway to hell

Formula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1 and referred to officially as the FIA Formula One World Championship,[2] is the highest class of single-seater auto racing sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The "formula", designated in the name, refers to a set of rules with which all participants' cars must comply.[3] The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix (from French, originally meaning great prizes), held throughout the world on purpose-built circuits and public roads. The results of each race are evaluated using a points system to determine two annual World Championships, one for the drivers and one for the constructors. The racing drivers, constructor teams, track officials, organisers, and circuits are required to be holders of valid Super Licences, the highest class of racing licence issued by the FIA.

Aleksander Smolar - Shocked by the Jesuits’ leftist views (144/201)

Aleksander Smolar (b. 1940) is a Polish writer, political activist and adviser, vice-president of the Institute for Human Sciences and president of the Stefan Batory Foundation. [Listener: Vitek Tracz]
TRANSCRIPT: There were others there; my friend was there on whom I had a big influence. I worked with him later when I returned to Paris. Following Raymond Aron's death I found myself in a different place, in École des hautes études and I was with Pierre Kende a Hungarian who emigrated after '56 and who, partly under our influence, the influence of Aneks which we published and which perhaps I ought to say a bit more about, he began to produce his own, similar publication, 'Magyar Füzetek', which was linked to the opposition in Hungary. Partly because of this, I had a great many contacts – for instance, I have a very dear and close friend in Budapest, one of my closest friends, János Kis, who headed an opposition movement before '89, continued to be politically active for a short period after '89 but then decided to abandon politics and return to philosophy. He would only occasionally participate by way of the political assessments and commentaries he wrote. Our closeness was in some sense due to the path he'd chosen to follow. He was a wonderful person.
So… Pierre Hasner, who was a Romanian Jew who'd left as a very young boy, named this club where we used to meet under the aegis of 'Esprit', 'les nôtres', 'our boys'. This was a golden era… a golden era for 'Esprit', too; their tendencies were left-wing. It was a time of disambiguation – they were absolutely pro-democracy, freedom… they had close contact with, for instance, the Catholic groups in Kraków, with 'Tygodnik Powszechny', 'Znak', later 'Więź', which had been very much inspired by French personalism. So this was a group I felt very close to and then later, as I've said, in Aix-en-Provence it was through this group that I made contact with Jesuits, who had their own club. They were fairly young Jesuits and I found them shocking. They were extremely left-wing; they often scandalised me with their views. It was very interesting, but when I was finally leaving, I told them a few things and then I shocked them. I, of course, took the lead in our discussion, they knew I had different views, but I judged them a little. I told them with kindness and friendly sincerity how I felt, and about my experience of being among them. I did that on another occasion – here, I'm going back to Bologna where I spent a marvellous year.

Lo-fi" and "DIY music" redirect here. For other uses, see Lo-fi (disambiguation) and DIY (disambiguation).
Not to be confused with Chill-out music or Lofi hip hop.
A minimal bedroom studio set-up with 1980s–1990s equipment
Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections of a recording or performance are audible, sometimes as a deliberate aesthetic choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music (from "do it yourself").[1]
Harmonic distortion and "analog warmth" are sometimes misleadingly suggested as core features of lo-fi music.[2] It is characterised by the inclusion of elements normally viewed as undesirable in professional contexts, such as misplayed notes, environmental interference, or phonographic imperfections (degraded audio signals, tape hiss, and so on). Pioneering, influential, or otherwise significant artists include the Beach Boys (Smiley Smile), R. Stevie Moore (often called "the godfather of home recording"), Paul McCartney (McCartney), Todd Rundgren, Jandek, Daniel Johnston, Guided by Voices, Sebadoh, Beck, Pavement, and Ariel Pink.
Although "lo-fi" has been in the cultural lexicon for approximately as long as "high fidelity", WFMU disc jockey William Berger is usually credited with popularizing the term in 1986. At various points since the 1980s, "lo-fi" has been connected with cassette culture, the DIY ethos of punk, primitivism, outsider music, authenticity, slacker/Generation X stereotypes, and cultural nostalgia. The notion of "bedroom" musicians expanded following the rise of modern digital audio workstations, and in the late 2000s, lo-fi aesthetics served as the basis of the chillwave and hypnagogic pop music genres.[3]ic.
