La Quinta High School was built in 1994 but fully completed by 1996. In its first year it had an enrollment of approximately 600 students with only grades 9-10 and in 1998, with grades 9-12, it now exceeds 3,000 students making it the largest high school in the Coachella Valley. The campus is crowded and portable classrooms have been added to accommodate all the students.
La Quinta High has obtained several awards, including a California Distinguished School award, in 1999, 2003 and 2011. Since the 2001-2002 academic year it has also been an International Baccalaureate School.
It is the home of the award winning La Quinta Blackhawk Brigade Marching Band and Colorguard.
In 2010, La Quinta High School's Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps(AFJROTC CA-951) received the Distinguished Unit(with Merit) award. Making the unit part of the top 5% of JROTC units worldwide.
La Quinta High School was founded in 1963, "the fifth" high school to be founded in the Garden Grove Unified School District. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, La Quinta gained notoriety for expressed racial tensions between those of Asian and Hispanic/Latino descent. In 1994, La Quinta was known for a tuberculosis outbreak of 106 students and faculty who tested positive, and subsequent quick response and compliance with county public health officials. And in summer of 2011, another student tested with TB. In 2009, La Quinta again made headlines for student demonstrations, unexpected for a school of its demographics, in support of a teacher allegedly abused by the high school's administration.
Quinta is the stage name of Katherine Mann, a London-based multi-instrumentalist, solo artist, composer and session player. She plays the violin, viola, musical saw, and keyboards. Mann's father nicknamed her "Quinta" when she was a baby; he was a teacher of Latin and Greek, and she was the fifth of five children.
Mann joined Bat for Lashes’ live line-up in 2007 and toured the UK and Europe the following year as part of Bat for Lashes’ Radiohead support tour. She was solo accompanist to Patrick Wolf on his Sundark Riverlight Acoustic World Tour during 2012.

Kim won his CIF-Southern Section Individual title in 2001 when he was a sophomore at La QuintaHighSchool. He was done with high school golf after that year, instead focusing on his future career in golf.

In addition to his work at COD, Simonds has a teaching academy at SilverRock Resort golf course in La Quinta, California, and a course in Colorado in the summer. He is also the girls golf coach at La Quinta HighSchool... degree from the school.
