Giovanni "Nino" Rota (3 December 1911 – 10 April 1979) was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor and academic who is best known for his film scores, notably for the films of Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti. He also composed the music for two of Franco Zeffirelli's Shakespeare films, and for the first two films of Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather trilogy, receiving the Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Godfather Part II (1974).
During his long career Rota was an extraordinarily prolific composer, especially of music for the cinema. He wrote more than 150 scores for Italian and international productions from the 1930s until his death in 1979—an average of three scores each year over a 46-year period, and in his most productive period from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s he wrote as many as ten scores every year, and sometimes more, with a remarkable thirteen film scores to his credit in 1954. Alongside this great body of film work, he composed ten operas, five ballets and dozens of other orchestral, choral and chamber works, the best known being his string concerto. He also composed the music for many theatre productions by Visconti, Zeffirelli and Eduardo De Filippo as well as maintaining a long teaching career at the Liceo Musicale in Bari, Italy, where he was the director for almost 30 years.
La Dolce Vita (Italian pronunciation: [la ˈdoltʃe ˈviːta]; Italian for "the sweet life" or "the good life") is a 1960 Italian comedy-drama film written and directed by Federico Fellini. The film follows Marcello Rubini, a journalist writing for gossip magazines, over seven days and nights on his journey through the "sweet life" of Rome in a fruitless search for love and happiness. La Dolce Vita won the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival and the Oscar for Best Costumes, and remains one of the most critically acclaimed films of all time.
Based on the most common interpretation of the storyline, the film can be divided into a prologue, seven major episodes interrupted by an intermezzo, and an epilogue (see also Structure, below). If the evenings of each episode were joined with the morning of the respective preceding episode together as a day, they would form seven consecutive days, which may not necessarily be the case.
1st Day Sequence: A helicopter transports a statue of Christ over an ancient Roman aqueduct outside Rome while a second, Marcello Rubini's news helicopter, follows it into the city. The news helicopter is momentarily sidetracked by a group of bikini-clad women sunbathing on the rooftop of a high-rise apartment building. Hovering above, Marcello uses gestures to elicit phone numbers from them but fails in his attempt then shrugs and continues on following the statue into Saint Peter's Square.
"La dolce vita" is a song written by Larry Forsberg, Sven-Inge Sjöberg and Lennard Wastesson, and originally performed by After Dark (Christer Lindarw and Lasse Flinckman) at Melodifestivalen 2004, where the song competed in the semifinal in Malmö on 13 March 2004, before reaching the final inside the Stockholm Globe Arena, where it ended up 3rd. On stage both men wore pink dresses, at the same style as Lena Philipsson did when her song "Det gör ont" won the contest that year.
At the Swedish singles chart, the single peaked at 8th position. The song also stayed at Svensktoppen for eleven weeks during the perios od 4 April-13 June 2004., topping the chart three times before leaving it.
"La dolce vita" ("The good life") was the Finnish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989, performed in Finnish (despite the Italian of the title) by Anneli Saaristo. The song was conducted by Ossi Runne, who retired after this Contest (conducting 22 Finnish entries).
The song was performed 14th on the night, following Austria's Thomas Forstner with "Nur ein Lied" and preceding France's Nathalie Pâque with "J'ai volé la vie". At the close of voting, it had received 76 points, placing 7th in a field of 22, Finland's best result in the Contest until 2006.
The song is sung from the perspective of a person looking back at her life and coming to the conclusion that she has lived well and has no regrets. Saaristo also recorded the song in English under the same title; "La Dolce Vita".
It was succeeded as Finnish representative at the 1990 Contest by Beat with "Fri?".

Seven days and nights in the life of Marcello (Marcello Mastroianni) is a society gossip columnist. During one of his rounds, he meets again Maddalena (Anouk Aimée) and spends the night with her in a whore's bedroom. When he comes back home the next morning, he discovers that his girlfriend Emma (Yvonne Fourneaux) poisoned herself because of him. Later, he is at the airport where the famous star Sylvia (Anita Ekberg) is arriving : he will go with her a few days. A chronicle of a decadent society where there is no more values except alcohol and sex, and no solutions. Nino Rota's lovely little poignant main theme balances betwixt melancholic wisdom and whimsy as cosmic jewels that mark some people's lives. Its falls into the blues-jazz and swing modes, and the variations are never boring or...

What is a youth?
Impetuous fire.
What is a maid?
Ice and desire.
The world wags on
A rose will bloom,
it then will fade
So does a youth.
So does the fairest maid.
Comes a time when one sweet smile
Has its season for awhile
Then Love's in love with me
Some may think only to marry.
Others will tease and tarry.
Mine is the very best parry,
Cupid he rules us all.
Caper the caper; sing me the song
Death will come soon to hush us along
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall,
Love is a task and it never will pall.
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall,
Cupid he rules us all.
A rose will bloom, it then will fade.
So does a youth.
