Saving tigers can have numerous benefits for humanity, beyond just preserving a majestic species. Here are some key ways. Get an up-close look at the Tigers of Asia in this breathtaking video. Watch as these majestic creatures roam their territory and showcase their strength and beauty in the wild.
Ecosystem Health: Tigers are apex predators, meaning they play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems. By controlling the population of herbivores, they help ensure that vegetation is not overgrazed, which in turn supports a diverse range of plant and animal species.
Climate Change Mitigation: Tiger habitats, such as forests and grasslands, are significant carbon sinks. Protecting these areas helps sequester carbon dioxide, thereby mitigating climate change.
Water Security: Tiger habitats overlap with some of Asia’s most important watersheds, which supply water to millions of people. Protecting these habitats helps ensure clean and reliable water sources.
Economic Benefits: Tiger conservation can boost local economies through eco-tourism. Protected areas can attract tourists, providing income and employment opportunities for local communities.
Cultural Significance: Tigers hold cultural and spiritual significance in many societies. Preserving them helps maintain cultural heritage and traditions.
By saving tigers, we are also protecting the broader environment and ensuring a healthier planet for future generations. Tigers are magnificent creatures, and their conservation is crucial. Here are some key facts about endangered tigers,
Population and Status:
Overall wild tiger numbers are starting to increase after a century of decline.
Stable or increasing populations are observed in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Russia, and China.
Approximately 5,574 tigers remain in the wild.
However, much work is needed to secure their future.
Subspecies:
There are two recognized subspecies of tigers:
Continental Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris): Found in various regions.
Sunda Tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica): Smaller and found on the Sunda Islands.
Unfortunately, three subspecies—the Caspian, Javan, and Bali tigers—are already extinct.
The South China tiger is functionally extinct, and others are endangered or critically endangered.
Habitats and Behavior:
Tigers inhabit tropical rainforests, evergreen forests, grasslands, and more.
They rely on sight and sound for hunting, typically stalking prey alone.
A tiger can consume over 80 pounds of meat at once!
Cubs are born every two years, and juvenile mortality is high.
Threats:
Tigers face unrelenting pressures from poaching, habitat loss, and human conflict.
They compete for space with growing human populations.
Climate change and illegal tiger farms also threaten their survival.

SUMMARY
=======
The Greater Sunda Islands are a group of four large islands within the Malay Archipelago. They are wholly or partly included in present-day Indonesia: Java, smallest but by far the most populous; Sumatra in the west, directly across the Strait of Malacca from Malaysia; large Borneo, the Indonesian sector of which is called Kalimantan; and wishbone-shaped, distended Sulawesi (formerly Celebes) to the east. Under some definitions, only Java, Sumatra and Borneo are included in the Greater Sunda Islands.Together with the Lesser Sunda Islands, they make up the Sunda Islands.

SUMMARY
=======

Komodo National Park, Indonesia [Amazing Places 4K]
The Komodo National Park has been created to conserve the Komodo dragon and its habitat, and also to protect the area's terrestrial and marine biodiversity. It has been selected as one of the "New 7 Wonders of Nature".
The Park is UNESCO World Heritage Site (quote from unesco.org): "These volcanic islands are inhabited by a population of around 5,700 giant lizards, whose appearance and aggressive behaviour have led to them being called 'Komodo dragons'. They exist nowhere else in the world and are of great interest to scientists studying the theory of evolution. The rugged hillsides of dry savannah and pockets of thorny green vegetation contrast starkly with the brilliant white sandy beaches and the blue waters surging over coral."
Recorded April 2016 in 4K (Ultra HD) with Sony AX100.
