Sulawesi comprises four peninsulas: the northern Minahasa Peninsula; the East Peninsula; the South Peninsula; and the South-east Peninsula. Three gulfs separate these peninsulas: the Gulf of Tomini between northern Minahasa peninsula and East Peninsula; the Tolo Gulf between East and Southeast Peninsula; and the Bone Gulf between the South and Southeast Peninsula. The Strait of Makassar runs along the western side of the island and separates the island from Borneo.
Name
The name Sulawesi possibly comes from the words sula ("island") and besi ("iron") and may refer to the historical export of iron from the rich Lake Matanoiron deposits. It came into common use in English following Indonesian independence.

In this episode of INDOWILD, I am in the highlands of North Sulawesi, The area around Tomohon and Tondano are only 30-45 minutes drive from the city of Manado and are known as the Minahasa highlands.
At 700 meters above sea level they are very cool and it rains a LOT! But for me being a European this suits me perfectly! And actually this is my favourite part of Indonesia so far.
I travel to Lake Linaw, Gunung Tampusu, Gunung Empung and Gunung Look and a great view of the Tampaluan crater. I visit Kali Waterfall, and the Hhdden waterfalls of Kayu Uwi. Finally I climb the mystical and magnificent Gunung Soputan.
North Sulawesi Is An Amazing place and the area around Tomohon is BIG surprise for me.

The Road to Luwuk - 1000km Solo Road Trip (Sulawesi, Indonesia)
In this episode of the Sabang to Merauke series, I go on another 1000km solo road trip from Kendari in Southeast Sulawesi to Luwuk in Central Sulawesi, marking my 15th province in Indonesia.
On Day 1, I face a mix of adventure and challenges, starting with getting lost on bumpy dirt roads en route to Morowali, where I meet some of my subscribers. After a long ride, I arrive at Maleo Hotel in Bahodopi, an industrial city in Sulawesi, where I spend the night with factory workers.
Day 2 on the road takes me to Kolonodale in the scorching 33-degree heat. On the road, the locals welcome me wherever I go, and I show you some of the benefits you can get when filling up with the MyPertamina app.
Trying to catch some cool drone clips ends with a small crash and I end the day resting at Daffa Ho...

The journey starts in Makassar in South Sulawesi where I visit Rammang Rammang which is an incredible place with karst limestone cliffs everywhere and of course many caves.
I then ride up alone to the highlands of Toraja and witness the strange ritual of Ma-nene where the people exhume the corpses of the dead relatives and throw expensive and extravagant funerals known as "Rambu Solo".
After this I ride my bike into the next highland area where there are mysterious stone megalithic statues with faces, very much like Easter Island but seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Besoa valley and Bada valley near Poso and Tentena.
Before riding once again to Ampana where I take a ferry to the Togean islands to see a jellyfish lake, a mysterious aeroplane wreckage underwater from WWII and the best diving in Una Una island which is also an active volcano which can be hiked to.
I then take another overnight ferry to Gorontalo, and here I see the strange and shy animal - the Babirusa which is endemic to the island of Sulawesi but is easily found in the wonderful Nantu Forest in Gorontalo.
Along the way I stop by to see Salvadore Dali sponge in Olele that can only be found on this coastline in Sulawesi, and I meet the biggest fish in the Ocean, The Whaleshark in Gorontalo.
I then ride my CB500x solo into the final province, North Sulawesi and straight up into the Minahasa highlands and climb the volcanos of Gunung Ampang, Gunung Soputan, Gunung Empung and Lokon, along with visiting Tempusu, the Lake Tondano, tomohon and the waterfalls.
Tangkoko national park is the next destination where I meet even more of Sulawesi's endemic wildlife such as the Black crested macaque and the tarsier along with the impressive hornbill.
Then it's time to go diving in the Lembeh strait to see the mimic octopus, wonderpus and blue ring octopus along with many more strange animals.
The the final place on my trip is the incredible Bunaken island where the diving is superb and full of life, lots of turtles, fish and macro life living in the coral reef.
Thank you and please enjoy this special episode.

The Journey starts by flying from North Kalimantan to Makassar, as an end to the Kalimantan series. Makassar, often referred to as the "Queen of the East," has so much to offer, and I am eager to explore its hidden gems.
First stop, Pasar Cidu! I dive headfirst into the bustling atmosphere of the night market, also known as the market that never sleeps. There I try some of the many fried snacks available, where the pricing stars from just 5k rupiah.
My next adventure takes me to Samalona Island. Situated just off the coast of Makassar, this small oasis offers beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and there I try some of the beautiful coral fish they serve for lunch.
As the sun sets, I meet up with my good friend, @IndoWild a fellow YouTuber. Together, we delve into the heart of Makassar's culinary scene by tasting the legendary Coto Makassar soup. Something everyone must try, when coming to Makassar.
Don't miss this episode of 'Sabang to Merauke,' where I embark on my first adventure in Sulawesi, experiencing the Makassar's culture, cuisine, and natural beauty.
And stay tuned for the next one, where I continue the journey to Maros. Where @IndoWild and I set out, to find the Worlds oldest cave painting.

Trying to catch some cool drone clips ends with a small crash and I end the day resting at Daffa Homey House, a cozy stop before venturing out to find ferry schedules and enjoy my favourite Indonesian food in a small local restaurant.
On Day 3, I catch a ferry from Kolonodale to Siliti, where the locals entertain me at the port, and I return the favour by pretending to be port staff. Thanks to the ferry captain, I enjoy the luxury of staying in his cabin. But disembarking proves tough as seasickness hits hard. I then brave heavy rain to reach Luwuk before dark, rewarded with breathtaking views of the city once I arrive.
Stay tuned for the next episode, where I set out to explore the beautiful Banggai Islands.

This video was so joyful to create and it brought back a lot of memories, in the future there will be more!
Welcome to this Special video as I show the entire trip through the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.
I will be showing new footage including the adventure that @KristianHansen and I had in the incredible area of Maros while hunting for the oldest known cave art in the world. Leang Tedongnge.

In this episode, I travel to the untouched paradise of Sombori Island in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. To learn about it's hidden gems, unique bajo culture, cuisine and local stories.
I'ts been more than 900 days since I started my Sabang to Merauke journey, across the Indonesian archipelago and I've finally made it to my 15th province, central sulawesi.
The journey starts from Buton island, where I first travel back to Kendari, the capital of South East Sulawesi. From there I meet up with my friends from Bank Indonesia, who have come to pick me up in the boat.
We first travel to Labengki Island located near Sombori island, where the Bank Indonesia team stays at Nirvana Resort.
At Mbo Kita village in Sombori, we exchange their old bills into the new rupiah bills and I get to share my experiences across indonesia with the locals.
I spend a couple of nights at Sombori Resort, from where we go out on various tours, like watching the sunrise from Kayangan 2 and go night fishing.
I visit the local bajo family at the famous 'Rumah Nenek', where Pak Sharif shares me his unique story from the time he caught a whaleshark in his net by an accident.
I visit the famous Air Kiri beach with the children of Mbo Kita village, we try local Indonesian cuisine and so much more!
In the end of the video, I make a short stop at Labengki Island in South East Sulawesi, where I stay at the incredible Labengki beach huts, from where I visit the famous, Blue Lagoon.
I am now on a mission to spread the spirit of Saling Jaga se-Indonesia🇮🇩.

Welcome to the third season of my Sabang to Merauke journey!
In this exciting episode, join me as I venture into the vibrant and culturally rich city of Makassar, the gateway to Eastern Indonesia.

Heyyy guys,
I'm excited to have you here on my channel and share my Sulawesi journey with you!

When Annis built this cage I saw the blueprint on the table But I was too young to run She lured me from my play To her clandestine domain To tend her illicit garden Black, black soul And Annis takes her toll And from her veil of black With all the mirrors at her back She called me into her guarded empire I treaded soft and lightly Fear trembling so slightly Snows in my bones I dream of the white sea Chorus: Black, black soul And Annis takes her toll Child of sin Black Annis wins again When Annis roared and jeered I knew that no one leaves from here Her fervid anger don't spare anything In the frenzy of my senses She confiscated my defenses With all the forces of night When Annis built this cage I saw the blueprint on the table But I was too young to run She lured me from my play To her clandestine domain To tend her illicit garden (Chorus 2x)
