Kara Mia Dalkey (born 1953) is an American author of young adult fiction and historical fantasy. She was born in Los Angeles and has lived in Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Colorado, and Seattle. Much of her fiction is set in the Heian period of Japan.
Her works include The Sword of Sagamore, Steel Rose, Little Sister and The Nightingale. The latter book is part of Terri Windling's Fairy Tale Series. Her short stories are featured in the Liavek anthologies, Firebirds: An Anthology of Original Fantasy and Science Fiction, and Firebirds Rising. Liavek was a shared-world series edited by Emma Bull and Will Shetterly. Ace Books published Liavek and thus many of the Scribblies' first short stories.
She is also a musician and has gigged extensively on electric bass (which she plays left-handed) and harmony vocals, with such bands as Runestone, the Albany Free Traders, and Nate Bucklin and the Ensemble (in Minnesota) and Relic and Voodoo Blue (in Seattle.) At different times she has also played drums, banjo and acoustic guitar. She is a songwriter, but her total output is low, and no CD or other album is in the works.
Dalkey (Irish:Deilginis, meaning "thorn island") is a suburb of Dublin and seaside resort just south of Dublin City, Ireland. It was founded as a Viking settlement and became an important port during the Middle Ages. According to John Clyn, it was one of the ports through which the plague entered Ireland in the mid-14th century. In modern times, Dalkey has become a thriving seaside suburb and a minor tourist attraction. It has been home to many writers and celebrities including Jane Emily Herbert, Maeve Binchy, Hugh Leonard, Bono and Van Morrison.
Etymology
The town is named after Dalkey Island, just off shore. The name is derived from the Irish deilg ("thorn") and the Old Norseey ("island").
King of Dalkey
This putative elective monarchy is a tradition of the people of Dalkey. The freemen of Dalkey inherited the right to elect this King through the boredom of young bloods back in the Dublin of 1787. They formed a club into which they roped wits, poets and thinkers. They summoned "Pimlico Parliament" - named after The Liberties, Dublin, and from an Assembly Room they hurled broadsides at the country's humbug and the pomposity of the Castle (Dublin Castle) and its hacks.

Hi guys! Welcome back into my channel. Today, I am going to share with you my trip to Dalkey.
Dalkey is one of the most affluent suburbs of Dublin, situated about 17 km southeast of the city. The best way to get there is to take the dart because the dart runs along the coast and you will be able to enjoy some picturesque views.
Dalkey was founded as a Viking settlement and became an active port during the Middle Ages. In modern times Dalkey has turned into a tourist spot that attracts a lot of visitors. It is also home to the rich and famous – like Bono from U2, the actor Matt Damon, Enya, Van Morisson, Chris the Burgh and many other celebrities.

Is Dalkey one of the most beautiful places in the world? | Matt Damon seems to think so...
So, last week, Matt Damon was interviewed by an Irish radio station, where he described Dalkey, a small town in south Dublin, where he is currently isolating, as one of the most beautiful places he has ever been. We are lucky to have Dalkey within our 5km lockdown limit, so we decided to take a trip down, to show you what it is really like there. We also got lost there too, even though we grew up right beside it....

Dalkey, Dublin - Day Trip from Dublin, Ireland 2020 - Petite Paradise Studio Travel Guide in 4K
For my last day in Dublin which is also New Year day 2020, I took a day trip to Dalkey, a quaint harbor town about an hour train away from Dublin.
Once you are in Dalkey, don't forget to visit their many mini castles along Castle Street, the Church of Assumption, St. Patrick's Church and Bullock Harbor.
The town was sooooooo cute that it was hard for me to say goodbye. The pretty little houses and majestic mansions along the coastline were the highlight of the trip.
FYI: take DART train, instead of the bus, will surely make the trip better because the train runs along the coastline which provide a more interesting view of the ocean along the ride.

Sunrise Swim at the Vico Baths in Dalkey | Lockdown Adventures
Sunrise Swim at the Vico Baths in Dalkey - the best sunrise swim spot in Dublin.
On the last week of Irelands 5km Lockdown we decided to get up at the crack of dawn (literally) and go for a Sunrise swim in the Vico Baths in Dalkey. The Vico Baths are one of the most best swimming spots in all of Dublin, and especially popular for a people going for a sunrise dip. We are so lucky to have had it in our 5km during lockdown.
If you plan on braving the cold and going for a sunrise swim, we would highly recommend this spot.
