The Return of the Bubonic Plague
The black plague has broke out in Madagascar. In late 2013, a deadly outbreak of the plague hit small villages around the country killing dozens of people. Rumored to have taken root in overcrowded prisons, the disease has flourished amid Madagascar’s increasing poverty and poor waste management. Antibiotics to treat the disease have been developed and are available in most countries, but Madagascar’s rudimentary healthcare system has left a number of people stranded without care.

Why the Bubonic Plague Still Exists Today
When you think of the Plague, the Black Death of the 14th century, with its medieval cities overrun with rats and creepy plague masks, probably comes to mind. But the Plague isn't a disease of the past; it's still very much around.

What Made The Black Death (The Plague) so Deadly?
In modern times, if you get sick your parents take you to the doctor and you get some medicine to feel better, but in the fourteenth century illnesses like "The Black Death" would spread from town to town, wiping out entire villages of people. In today's educational animated video we look at what made "The Black Death" so deadly.
How terrible was this SICKNESS and ILLNESS? What can we learn from the history about this disease? Is the pandemic truly gone or can it one day come back? In what year did the plague doctors actually appear?

There are actually three major types of plague depending on what part of the body is affected. Septicemic, pneumonic, and bubonic, which is what we think of when we hear “the plague” since it’s the most common type.
Symptoms may include fever, chills, body aches, nausea, and vomiting, all of which can usually take anywhere between one to seven days to pop up. But probably the most important thing to keep in mind is that timing here is crucial, because things can go downhill quickly if treatment isn’t started immediately. And that goes for all three types of plague.
If treatment for bubonic plague doesn’t work or is administered too late or if the bubonic stage doesn’t occur, the bacteria can continue its spread from the lymph nodes into the bloodstream, where it starts to multiply.
