The West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has a land area of 5,640km2 plus a water area of 220km2, consisting of the northwest quarter of the Dead Sea. It has an estimated population of 2,676,740 (July 2013). More than 80%, about 2,800,000, are Palestinian Arabs, and approximately 500,000 are Jewish Israelis living in the West Bank, including about 192,000 in East Jerusalem, in Israeli settlements, built on the 43% of the West Bank which Israel has allocated to local settler councils. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. The International Court of Justice advisory ruling (2004) concluded that events that came after the 1967 occupation of the West Bank by Israel, including the Jerusalem Law, Israel's peace treaty with Jordan and the Oslo Accords, did not change the status of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) as occupied territory with Israel as the occupying power.
Bank Panic is an arcade game developed by Sanritsu and manufactured by Sega in 1984. West Bank is a clone of the game, released on several platforms.
Game description
The player assumes the part of an Old Westsheriff who must protect a bank and its customers from masked robbers. The layout of the bank is implicitly a circle with twelve numbered doors and the player in the center. The player can rotate to the left or right and view three doors at a time. The doors will open to reveal a customer (who will drop a bag of money, making a deposit), a robber (who will attempt to shoot the player) or a young boy (who will be holding a stack of three to five hats, which the player can rapidly shoot for a bag of money or bonus time). The level ends when all twelve doors have received one or more deposits. This is indicated by the numbered boxes across the top of the screen, with a red dollar sign showing a door with a completed deposit.
At random intervals, a bomb will be placed on one of the doors and a rapid timer will count down from 99. The player must move to that door and destroy the bomb with gunfire. Shooting a customer, being shot by a robber, failing to destroy a bomb, or failing to complete the level before the overall timer runs out (shown by a bar at the bottom of the screen) costs the player one life.
Jordanian occupation of the West Bank refers to the occupation and annexation of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) by Jordan (formerly Transjordan), during a period of nearly two decades (1948–1967) in the aftermath of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. During the war, Jordan's Arab Legion, conquered the Old City of Jerusalem and took control of territory on the western side of the Jordan River, including the cities of Jericho, Bethlehem, Hebron and Nablus. At the end of hostilities, Jordan was in complete control of the West Bank.
Jordan formally annexed the West Bank on April 24, 1950. The annexation was regarded as illegal and void by the Arab League and others. It was recognized only by Britain, Iraq and Pakistan. The annexation of the West Bank more than doubled the population of Jordan.
History
1948 Arab–Israeli War
On 14 May 1948, David Ben-Gurion, on behalf of the Jewish leadership, "declared the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz Israel, to be known as the State of Israel". The Jordanian Arab Legion, under the leadership of Sir John Bagot Glubb, known as Glubb Pasha, was ordered to enter Palestine, secure the UN designated Arab area, and then enter the Jerusalem corpus separatum as defined by the UN Partition Plan.
Historically, the Rhinelands refers (physically speaking) to a loosely defined region embracing the land on either bank of the River Rhine in Central Europe, settled by Ripuarian and Salian Franks. In the Middle Ages, numerous Imperial States along the river emerged from the former stem duchy of Lotharingia, without developing any common political or cultural identity.
A "Rhineland" conceptualization did not evolve until the 19th century after the War of the First Coalition, when a short-lived Cisrhenian Republic was established on territory conquered by French troops. The term covered the whole occupied zone west of the Rhine (German: Linkes Rheinufer) including the bridge-heads on the eastern banks. After the collapse of the French dominated West Bank in the early 19th century, the regions of Lower Rhine and Jülich-Cleves-Berg were annexed to the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1822 the Prussian administration reorganized the territory as the Rhine Province (also known as Rhenish Prussia), a term continuing in the names of the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Construction in the vicinity began in 2010, and the station opened with the rest of the line in 2014. It is the westernmost station only served by Green Line trains. The next station to the west, Downtown East, has been served by the Blue Line since it opened in 2004.
Location
The station is located west of the Washington Avenue Bridge, extending from Cedar Avenue to slightly east of 19th Avenue.
The station is located on Hennepin County Road 122, an unsigned continuation of Washington Avenue SE. Washington Avenue originally ran straight east-west across the Mississippi River when the first bridge for the road was built in 1884. However, the current bridge was constructed in the 1960s at a slight angle to the southwest, causing Washington Avenue to became discontinuous.
Washington Avenue S itself is located a block to the north, and has its eastern terminus on the West Bank at 19th Avenue, leading into the University of Minnesota Law School.
Hardliners violently expel Palestinians to expand Israeli settlements in West Bank
While Gaza endures a devastating war, an increasingly brutal battle is being fought over land in another Palestinian territory: the West Bank. Israeli settlers are attacking Palestinians there more frequently and ferociously than ever before and forcing them to flee their homes. Special correspondent Leila Molana-Allen reports.

In the heart of the West Bank, Israeli settlers are waging a daily war on the Palestinians who remain. They harass their neighbours, attack their houses, move their livestock and generally make life unbearable for them. After years of violent resistance, a new generation of Palestinians have undertaken a new strategy and are fighting back with video cameras rather than guns. They post their videos online to show the world what is happening but what does all this mean for the possibility of peace? 'Last Stop Palestine' is an in-depth and eye-opening investigation into life in the West Bank.
This documentary was first released in 2013.

Israeli leaders have strongly condemned a group of settlers who went on the rampage in the occupied West Bank, killing one Palestinian man and badly injuring several others.
Dozens of masked settlers stormed into a village near Nablus last night.
The Israeli president Isaac Herzog demanded swift action to bring those behind the attack to justice.
At least one Palestinian was been killed after dozens of armed Israeli settlers, some wearing masks, attacked a village in the occupied West Bank, setting fire to houses and cars.
The settlers threw rocks and Molotov cocktails in the village of Jit, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The Palestinian health ministry said Rashid Sedda, 22, was killed by gunfire from the settlers and another man was seriously wounded in what it condemned as an act of “organised state terrorism”. The IDF said it was looking into the reports of a fatality. Israel’s prime minister said that he viewed the incident with “utmost severity”.
It is the latest in the series of attacks by extremist settlers on Palestinian villages in the West Bank, where there has been a spike in violence since Hamas’s deadly attack on Israel on 7 October and the ensuing war in Gaza.
Around 160 settlements housing some 700,000 Jews have been built since Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

An assault by dozens of Israeli settlers has devastated a Palestinian town in the occupied West Bank, drawing blistering condemnation from top Israeli officials. More than 70 armed settlers invaded the town of Jit, firing bullets and tear gas at residents and setting several homes and cars and other property on fire, according to the head of Jit’s village council, Nasser Sedda. CNN’s Nic Robertson reports. #CNN #News
