John Paul (artist)
John Paul (1804–1887) was an English painter.
Biography
Little is known of Paul's personal life. other than it bridged the Georgian Era and the Victorian Era.
Work
Paul was known for painting views of London in which the figures were dressed in the manner of the 1700s, the previous century. The City of London Corporation owns a painting attributed to him of Smithfield Market. It is housed in The Guildhall Art Gallery.
Examples of Paul's equine and canine paintings are the illustrated Bay Stallion and the 1867 work Four Dogs, which depicts a Mastiff, two Greyhounds and a Bull Terrier.

John Paul (pioneer)
John Paul was a pioneer in Ohio and Indiana, founding Xenia, Ohio and Madison, Indiana. He was a delegate at the convention that drafted the constitution of Ohio, and was a state senator in the first general assembly after statehood. He also served in the first state senate of Indiana. He founded the second newspaper in Indiana. He was known as “Colonel John Paul” for his services in the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
Youth
John Paul was the fourth of seven children of Michael Paul, a native of Holland, and Ann Parker, a native of Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania They were married at Germantown in about 1751 or 1752, and John Paul was born in Germantown on November 12, 1758. In 1766 or 1767, the family moved to Redstone, Old Fort, now Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
Revolutionary War
In 1778, Paul joined George Rogers Clark in the Illinois campaign, a series of battles during the American Revolutionary War, culminating with the capture of the town of Kaskaskia and British fort at Vincennes in 1779.

John Paul Jones
John Paul Jones (born John Paul; July 6, 1747 – July 18, 1792) was a Scottish American sailor and the United States' first well-known naval fighter in the American Revolutionary War. Although he made many friends and enemies among America's political elites, his actions in British waters during the Revolution earned him an international reputation which persists to this day. As such, he is sometimes referred to as the "Father of the American Navy" (an epithet he shares with John Barry). He later served in the Imperial Russian Navy, subsequently obtaining the rank of rear admiral.
Early life and education
Jones was born John Paul (he added "Jones" in later life to hide from law enforcement after winning a duel) on the estate of Arbigland near Kirkbean in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright on the southwest coast of Scotland. His father, John Paul, Sr., was a gardener at Arbigland, and his mother was named Jean McDuff (1708–1767). His parents married on November 29, 1733 in New Abbey, Kirkcudbright. Living at Arbigland at the time was Helen Craik (1751–1825), later a novelist. John Paul started his maritime career at the age of 13, sailing out of Whitehaven in the northern English county of Cumberland, as apprentice aboard Friendship under Captain Benson. Paul's older brother William Paul had married and settled in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the destination of many of the younger Jones' voyages.

John Paul Jones (athlete)
John Paul Jones (October 15, 1890 – January 5, 1970) was an American track athlete who set several world records in the mile, including the first mile record to be ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations in 1913.
Biography
He was born on October 15, 1890 in Washington, D.C.
Jones entered Cornell University in 1909, majoring in mechanical engineering. He showed little initial promise in track, not making the team until his last year and not impressing until his last race. An extremely popular and handsome man, Jones worked long hours on his studies, played basketball and tennis in the summer and ran as a pastime. As a senior, he was selected for membership in the Quill and Dagger society.
But he worked and trained hard as a runner and had the most successful coach of the era, Jack Moakley. Initially a cross country runner, he won the freshman intercollegiate championships easily and in the fall of his second year won the IC4A cross country championship.

John Paul Jones (artist)
John Paul Jones (1924–1999) was an American painter and printmaker, described as "one of America's foremost printmakers" in the 1950s and '60s.
He had a write-up in Time magazine in 1962. In 1963 he had a retrospective exhibition of his prints and drawings at The Brooklyn Museum, New York. A posthumous retrospective exhibition was held at the Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, in 2010.
Jones was a resident of Laguna Beach, California from the 1960s until 1990.

Paul Jones (judge)
Paul Jones (November 4, 1880 – August 4, 1965) was an American football player and coach and United States federal judge. He played fullback for the University of Michigan's national championship football team in 1902 and became the football coach at Western Reserve University after graduating from Michigan. He practiced law from 1905 to 1920 and served as an Ohio state court judge from 1920 to 1923. In 1923, he was appointed as a United States district court judge in Cleveland, a position he held until his death in 1965.
Early years and football career
Jones was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended the University of Michigan where he studied law and also played football. Jones worked in a Youngstown boiler shop for five cents an hour during his summer vacations. He was the starting fullback on Fielding H. Yost's 1902 "Point-a-Minute" football team that finished the season 11–0 and outscored opponents 644 to 12. Jones was a popular player, and in October 1902 newspaper accounts reported that he led the students in singing the "varsity yell" at a "singing bee" preceding the football game against Wisconsin. Jones was six-feet tall and weighed 170 pounds as Michigan's fullback in 1902.

His career began during the era of barnstormers and he was one of the earliest entrepreneurs in the field of aviation. Today's video is an introduction to John Paul Riddle, an aviation pioneer and a son of Pike County. His career began during the era of barnstormers and he was one of the earliest entrepreneurs in the field of aviation. He made huge contributions to the allied war effort during World War II by starting schools that would train thousands of pilots, mechanics, and air personnel that fought in the skies of Europe. Those efforts would eventually lead to the creation of Embry-Riddle University, the largest accredited university system specializing in aviation and aerospace.

Several months ago, we introduced you to John Paul Riddle, a Pikeville native and one of the greatest aviation pioneers. Today, in honor of Independence Day, we’d like to tell you about a stunt he performed on July 4th in 1923—flying under the old Middle Bridge. This short clip reel shows some of the human factors tests conducted by Col. John Paul Stapp. Col. Stapp was a career U.S. Air Force officer, USAF flight surgeon and pioneer in studying the effects of acceleration and deceleration forces on humans. He was a colleague and contemporary of Chuck Yeager, and became known as "the fastest man on earth". According to the book "A History of Murphy's Law" by Nick T. Spark, Stapp was also involved in the discovery of the famed Law during tests at Muroc AFB (today's Edwards).
Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. "U.S. Air Force School Of Aviation Medicine” is a 1958 black-and-white episode of the CBS news magazine show “The Search,” hosted by Charles Romine. The episode focuses on man’s desire to fly faster, farther, and higher than anyone else and the strange problems test pilots encounter in this endeavor (mark 01:45). It opens with a test pilot at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas partaking in an experiment designed to determine the limits of human endurance in flight, followed by an explanation of “aviation medicine” before moving on to a look at the flight suit (mark 05:35) pilots wear to combat changes in air pressure while flying, including a “G-suit.” Mark 09:15 begins an explanation of how to eject a pilot from a jet traveling at supersonic speed, with film footage accompanying the narration.
At mark 12:00, the film turns its focus to Colonel John Paul Stapp, who set a record speed of 632 mph in five seconds on December 10, 1954 when he traveled in a rocket-propelled sled, Sonic Wind no. 1, at the air research and development command’s test center at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. Romine interviews Stapp beginning at mark 14:27, and at mark 17:17 takes a look at the field of “space medicine” — predicting that “within the next 50 years man will not only make routine flights under space conditions in the vicinity of the Earth but that he will travel to or around the moon” — and how they will deal with weightlessness in their “rocket ship.”

Today's video is an introduction to John Paul Riddle, an aviation pioneer and a son of Pike County. His career began during the era of barnstormers and he was one of the earliest entrepreneurs in the field of aviation. He made huge contributions to the allied war effort during World War II by starting schools that would train thousands of pilots, mechanics, and air personnel that fought in the skies of Europe. Those efforts would eventually lead to the creation of Embry-Riddle University, the largest accredited university system specializing in aviation and aerospace.

"U.S. Air Force School Of Aviation Medicine” is a 1958 black-and-white episode of the CBS news magazine show “The Search,” hosted by Charles Romine. The episode focuses on man’s desire to fly faster, farther, and higher than anyone else and the strange problems test pilots encounter in this endeavor (mark 01:45). It opens with a test pilot at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas partaking in an experiment designed to determine the limits of human endurance in flight, followed by an explanation of “aviation medicine” before moving on to a look at the flight suit (mark 05:35) pilots wear to combat changes in air pressure while flying, including a “G-suit.” Mark 09:15 begins an explanation of how to eject a pilot from a jet traveling at supersonic speed, with film footage accompanying the narration.
At mark 12:00, the film turns its focus to Colonel John Paul Stapp, who set a record speed of 632 mph in five seconds on December 10, 1954 when he traveled in a rocket-propelled sled, Sonic Wind no. 1, at the air research and development command’s test center at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. Romine interviews Stapp beginning at mark 14:27, and at mark 17:17 takes a look at the field of “space medicine” — predicting that “within the next 50 years man will not only make routine flights under space conditions in the vicinity of the Earth but that he will travel to or around the moon” — and how they will deal with weightlessness in their “rocket ship.”

Biography
Little is known of Paul's personal life. other than it bridged the Georgian Era and the Victorian Era.
Work
Paul was known for painting views of London in which the figures were dressed in the manner of the 1700s, the previous century. The City of London Corporation owns a painting attributed to him of Smithfield Market. It is housed in The Guildhall Art Gallery.
Examples of Paul's equine and canine paintings are the illustrated Bay Stallion and the 1867 work Four Dogs, which depicts a Mastiff, two Greyhounds and a Bull Terrier.
