Italian migrant farmers of Epping (1958) | RetroFocus | ABC Australia
Onsonato Galluzzo didn’t see his family for 10 years while he settled in Australia. He moved alone from Italy in 1939 when his son was just a baby. After World War II Galluzzo purchased land in Epping, near Sydney. His family, including his now 10-year-old son, were finally able to join him in 1949.
Like hundreds of Italian migrants in the 1950s, the Galluzzos came to live and farm the land in semi-rural areas of Sydney, assimilating into Australian society over generations.
This episode of the ABC’s Weekend Magazine, ‘The New Seed’ aired on April 20, 1958.
