The Best of Stravinsky
Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky ComSE (17 June [O.S. 5 June] 1882 – 6 April 1971) was a Russian-born composer, pianist, and conductor. He is widely considered one of the most important and influential composers of the 20th century.
Stravinsky's compositional career was notable for its stylistic diversity. He first achieved international fame with three ballets commissioned by the impresario Serge Diaghilev and first performed in Paris by Diaghilev's Ballets Russes: The Firebird (1910), Petrushka (1911), and The Rite of Spring (1913). The latter transformed the way in which subsequent composers thought about rhythmic structure and was largely responsible for Stravinsky's enduring reputation as a musical revolutionary who pushed the boundaries of musical design. His "Russian phase" which contin...

Maurice Ravel: Unveiling the Musical Genius | Biography of a Revolutionary Composer
Maurice Ravel, one of the most celebrated composers of the 20th century, was born on March 7, 1875, in Ciboure, a small town in the Basque region of France. From an early age, Ravel showed a remarkable talent for music, and his parents recognized his gift by providing him with piano lessons.
In his youth, Ravel studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he honed his skills as a pianist and composer. Despite facing some initial setbacks, he eventually gained recognition for his unique musical style and innovative compositions. Ravel was deeply influenced by various musical traditions, including impressionism and jazz, which he skillfully blended with his own distinct voice.

His "Russian phase" which continued with works such as Renard, the Soldier's Tale and Les Noces, was followed in the 1920s by a period in which he turned to neoclassicism. The works from this period tended to make use of traditional musical forms (concerto grosso, fugue and symphony), drawing on earlier styles, especially from the 18th century. In the 1950s, Stravinsky adopted serial procedures. His compositions of this period shared traits with examples of his earlier output: rhythmic energy, the construction of extended melodic ideas out of a few two- or three-note cells and clarity of form, and of instrumentation.

Throughout his career, Ravel composed a diverse range of musical works, including orchestral pieces, chamber music, ballets, and operas. Some of his most renowned compositions include "Boléro," "Daphnis et Chloé," "Pavane pour une infante défunte," and "Ma mère l'oye" (Mother Goose Suite). His compositions were characterized by their intricate harmonies, lush orchestration, and meticulous attention to detail.
Ravel's compositions brought him international acclaim, and he became a prominent figure in the French music scene. He associated with other influential artists and musicians of his time, such as Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and Sergei Diaghilev. His music was performed in prestigious venues and received critical acclaim for its originality and technical mastery.
However, Ravel's personal life was marked by tragedy and adversity. He suffered from health issues, including a progressive neurological condition that affected his motor skills. Despite these challenges, Ravel continued to compose, adapting his musical style to accommodate his physical limitations.
Maurice Ravel's contributions to music were widely recognized during his lifetime, and his influence continues to resonate today. His innovative approach to composition and his ability to blend various musical styles have made him a lasting figure in the history of classical music. Ravel's works remain popular, and his compositions are frequently performed by orchestras and ensembles around the world.
On December 28, 1937, Maurice Ravel passed away in Paris, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire and captivate audiences to this day.

We easily exceeded both of those with Tuesday's burst that stretched into three different counties.
The macroburst event of Aug. 6 had a path of damage that stretched for 15 miles. The damage began near the lakeshore and then stretched inland from there. Damage from this macroburst was confirmed in eastern Cuyahoga County (the city of Cleveland was NOT included), western Lake County, and northwest Geauga County. This portion of the storm had estimated peak winds at 90 mph and caused its damage between 4:20 and 4:50 p.m., essentially moving southeast across the damaged areas.

UCP Mission Statement
The mission of UCP of Greater Cleveland is to empower children and adults with disabilities to advance their independence, productivity, and inclusion in the community.
Our History
In 1950, UCP of Greater Cleveland was formed by a group of determined parents who saw few true opportunities for their children with cerebral palsy. During this time, it was often recommended that individuals with disabilities be placed in institutional settings rather than live with their families and be contributing members of the community. The parents that founded UCP knew that their children, and all individuals with disabilities, had a right to the most productive and inclusive life possible and joined together to make this a reality. What began as a loosely-knit group of programs consisting of a nursery school, a summer camp for children, a social-recreational program for adults, and a mother's club has evolved into an accredited, high impact, thriving organization meeting the complex health and social challenges facing children and adults with a range of disabilities. UCP today provides a continuum of services throughout Greater Cleveland ranging from pediatric therapy, family-focused case management, and education, as well as employment opportunities and community integration services for adults.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be the premier provider of life span services to individuals with disabilities to afford them equal opportunities in daily living, work, and community settings. Our clients will live happy, healthy, and enriched lives.
Who We Serve
UCP of Greater Cleveland typically serves over 1,500 children and adults every year. While the agency initially served only children with cerebral palsy, we are now a network of support for people with a wide spectrum of disabilities including but not limited to, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, genetic disorders, intellectual disability, among others.
