The party was established in 1900 to oppose the original Progressive Party. It won every election between 1916 and 1922. Between 1918 and 1920 it governed in coalition with the Independence Party and the new Progressive Party, before forming a government alone in 1920. In 1922 the Independence Party rejoined the government.
In 1923 the party was dissolved and its members formed the Citizens' Party alongside the Independence Party. The following year, the Conservative Party was established by a majority of Citizens' Party members, with the remainder reassuming the Independence Party name.
The Home Rule Party (Burmese:ဟုမ္မရူးပါတီ) was a political party in Burma in the 1920s led by Tharrawaddy U Pu.
History
The party was formed as a breakaway from the General Council of Burmese Associations prior to the 1925 elections due to the GCBA continuing its calls for an electoral boycott. The elections saw the new party win 11 of the 80 seats.
Nýtt Sjálvstýri traditionally supported greater autonomy for the Faroes within the Kingdom of Denmark, but in 1998 it agreed, as part of a coalition deal with Tjóðveldi and Fólkaflokkurin, to support national independence for the Faroes. Today it supports obtaining independence through gradually increasing Faroese autonomy until the Faroe Islands becomes a de facto independent state.
Iceland (i/ˈaɪslænd/; Icelandic:Ísland[ˈistlant]), also called the Republic of Iceland, is a Nordicisland country between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. It has a population of 329,100 and an area of 103,000km2 (40,000sqmi), making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The capital and largest city is Reykjavík. Reykjavík and the surrounding areas in the southwest of the country are home to over two-thirds of the population. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate, despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle. Its high latitude and marine influence still keeps summers chilly, with most of the archipelago having a tundra climate.
According to Landnámabók, the settlement of Iceland began in the year 874 when the Norwegian chieftain Ingólfr Arnarson became the first permanent settler on the island. In the following centuries, mainly Norwegians and to a smaller extent other Scandinavians settled Iceland, bringing with them thralls of Gaelic origin. From 1262 to 1814, Iceland was ruled by Norway and afterwards by Denmark. Until the 20th century, the country relied largely on fishing and agriculture. Iceland became independent in 1918 and a republic in 1944. Industrialisation of the fisheries and Marshall Plan aid following World War II brought prosperity and Iceland became one of the wealthiest and most developed nations in the world. In 1994, it became a part of the European Economic Area, which supported diversification into economic and financial services.
Iceland has extensive volcanic and geothermal activity. The rift associated with the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which marks the division between the European and North Americantectonic plates, runs across Iceland from the southwest to the northeast. This geographic feature is prominent at the Þingvellir National Park, where the promontory creates an extraordinary natural amphitheatre. The site was the home of Iceland's parliament, the Alþing, which was first convened in 930. It is a common misconception that Þingvellir are located at the juncture between the North American and Eurasian continental plates. However, they are in fact at the juncture of the North American continental plate and a smaller plate (approx. 10,000 km2) called the Hreppar Microplate (Hreppaflekinn).
Iceland is an EP released by All About Eve in 2002. It was described mainly as a winter (rather than specifically Christmas) EP, although five out of seven of the songs do contain references to Christmas or are songs particularly connected with it.
This album was made (and the songs performed) by Julianne Regan and Andy Cousin only, and did not include Robin Guy or Toni Haimi, the other band members at the time.
In another sign of potential change following years of military rule, political exiles are returning home to Myanmar after nearly two decades outside their nation.
For those granted visas, their trips, though short, will serve as a barometer to see how, if at all, recent political developments are making an impact on the daily lives of the people of Yangon.

Military In Politics: Myanmar | Insight | Full Episode
In the early hours of February 1st, 2021, the Myanmar military known as the Tatmadaw seized power of the country. The coup led to the ousting of democracy icon, Aung San Suu Kyi and brought Myanmar's decade long experiment with democracy to a crashing halt. A mass uprising soon broke out across the country. The security forces responded by launching a brutal crackdown against the protesters, turning some areas of the capital, Yangon into battle zones.
But why did the army stage a coup and shatter the hopes and dreams of many of its citizens? Will the violence and protests in the streets help restore democracy in Myanmar?

Reality of life under military rule becoming apparent in Myanmar
The reality of life under military rule is becoming apparent in Myanmar, as fear and confusion grows across the country. Less than 24 hours after a coup d'etat, key civilian leaders have been detained and other lawmakers are said to be under guard in the capital Nay Pi Taw. The Myanmar military has declared a year-long state of emergency, and army chief Min Aung Hlaing is now in charge. The timing of the coup was strategic -- just hours before the new parliament was set to convene.

Military leaders in Myanmar have dissolved Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) and 39 other political parties over their failure to register for the next general election, according to junta-controlled media reports on March 28, 2023. The previous day, military chief Min Aung Hlaing said in an Armed Forces Day speech that an election would be held, although no date has been set. Myanmar has descended into chaos since a February 2021 coup when the military forcefully seized control from Suu Kyi’s then-ruling party.

Great uncertainty for Myanmar foreign domestic workers in Singapore
The Myanmar community in Singapore said there is great uncertainty about what is happening at home. Maid agencies dealing with foreign domestic workers from Myanmar said the situation is still evolving, and this is affecting those wishing to go home, or even those awaiting to fly in to meet future employers. The Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME) added that it's also a difficult time for workers stuck here, as even if flights were to resume, they are likely to be limited to the capital Yangon.

In another sign of potential change following years of military rule, political exiles are returning home to Myanmar after nearly two decades outside their nation.
For those granted visas, their trips, though short, will serve as a barometer to see how, if at all, recent political developments are making an impact on the daily lives of the people of Yangon.
Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay reports from Yangon where he accompanies Aung Zaw, a student dissident turned journalist, on his return to Myanmar after 8,000 nights in Thailand.

Channel 4 News gains rare access to the Gen Z rebels fighting the military dictatorship in Myanmar and hears how the young fighters are willing to kill and die for democracy.

Two years since the military junta seized power in Myanmar, a fierce guerilla war is intensifying as protesters, who pleaded for a return to democratic rule two years ago, have now picked up weapons to fight for their freedom.
Amid accusations of indiscriminate bombing campaigns, the regime doesn’t want the outside world to see what they’re doing in Myanmar but Channel 4 News travelled secretly into the country to speak to the young rebels.
We contacted Myanmar's military authorities requesting an interview or comment. We have not received a reply.
