A general election is an election in which all or most members of a given political body are chosen. The term is usually used to refer to elections held for a nation's primary legislative body, as distinguished from by-elections and local elections.
In presidential systems, the term refers to a regularly scheduled election where both the president, and either "a class" of or all members of the national legislature are elected at the same time but sometimes refers to special elections held to fill prematurely vacated positions. A general election day may also include elections for local officials.
The elections held to elect the members of the Lok Sabha after expiry of the normal term of five years are called the General Elections. Elections to some State Legislative Assemblies may be held along with the Parliamentary Elections. Earlier up to 1957 simultaneous elections were held for both the Lok Sabha and the State Assemblies. However, on account of early dismissal and mid-term elections the two got separated.
Most Western European languages have greatly reduced levels of inflection, particularly noun declension. In contrast, Icelandic retains a four-casesynthetic grammar comparable to, but considerably more conservative and synthetic than, German. By virtue of its being in the Germanic family, which as a whole reduced the Indo-European case system, it is inappropriate to compare the grammar of Icelandic to that of the more conservative Baltic and Slavic languages of the Indo-European family, many of which retain six or more cases, except to note that Icelandic utilises a wide assortment of irregular declensions. Icelandic also has many instances of oblique cases without any governing word, as does Latin. For example, many of the various Latin ablatives have a corresponding Icelandic dative. The conservatism of the Icelandic language and its resultant near-isomorphism to Old Norse (which is equivalently termed Old Icelandic by linguists) means that modern Icelanders can easily read the Eddas, sagas, and other classic Old Norse literary works created in the tenth through thirteenth centuries.
Election is a 1998 novel by Tom Perrotta. It is a black comedy about a high school history teacher who attempts to sabotage a manipulative, overly-ambitious girl's campaign to become school president. In 1999, the novel was adapted into a film of the same title.
Synopsis
The novel centers on a high school in Winwood, in suburban New Jersey, where students are preparing to vote for their school president. The story takes place in 1992, amidst the U.S. Presidential Elections that year. Tracy Flick is an unpopular girl but very ambitious, intelligent and manipulative (And even described as attractive and rather buxom by some teachers and fellow students.) however, she is not quite as perfect as her classmates assume. She had a heated sexual affair with her former teacher, and after Tracy told her mother of their relationship, his career and marriage were ruined. One of Tracy's current teachers, James T. "Jim" McAllister, known as "Mr. M." to his students, learns that Tracy is taking part in the election, and feeling that Tracy needs to be taken down a notch, prompts Paul Warren (a student of whom he approves) to run against her. In turn, Paul's outcast lesbian sister, Tammy, begins a reckless campaign to be school president in retaliation to her ex-girlfriend who is now dating Paul. The novel ends with Mr. M ultimately losing his job as a teacher when it is found that he has sabotaged the election by pocketing Tracy's winning votes- making Paul the winner of the presidency. Mr. M then ends up working in a car dealership.
Election is a BAFTA award-winning political TV series for children won by Quincy Washington, presented by Angellica Bell and judged by Jonathan Dimbleby. It first aired on BBC One.
Format
Election challenges ten contestants to take part in political challenges in two teams (Purple and Green) - similar to The Apprentice. Each week a celebrity guest mentors both teams and examines them in a skills test, where the winning team will gain an advantage for the main challenge. The winning team will go on a treat and the losing team face Jonathan Dimbleby where one will be told "Your Campaign is Over", where the one will be evicted. The ten-part series culminates in the last two contestants (Hazel and Quincy) battling out at Parliament. In the end Quincy Washington from Buckinghamshire wins a personal meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street
Episodes
Auditions
In this first episode, 16 hopefuls enter Leadership Camp to be tested on their skills of decision making, teamwork and persuasiveness. Only ten will make it through to live in Leadership House.
A writ of election is a writ issued ordering the holding of an election. In Commonwealth countries writs are the usual mechanism by which general elections are called and are issued by the head of state or their representative. In the United States, it is more commonly used to call a special election for a political office.

The Enigmatic ICELANDIC Language
This video is all about the Icelandic language, an Insular North Germanic language (along with Faroese). It can be also be classified as a member of the Western branch of the North Germanic languages (along with Faroese and Norwegian) because it developed mainly from Western dialects of Old Norse.
Icelandic is said to be the closest North Germanic language to Old Norse (meaning Old Icelandic as it appears in old literature like the Icelandic sagas). Icelandic retains much of the inflection that existed in Old Norse. Contrast that with English which has lost most of the inflection that existed in Old English - a language which was very similar to Old Norse. The fascinating result is that Icelandic feels just like a familiar but somewhat distant cousin of English. And for anyone who has stu...

Iceland's Largest Volcano Rumbles While The Grindavik Eruption Comes To An End
While Bardarbunga, Iceland's largest volcano gets ready for a volcanic eruption, the eruption by Grindavik just faded out and ground uplift started again, so we have yet another cycle underway, most likely ending with eruption number 11 in 3 months or so. But the Bárðarbunga build up is a situation that should not be underestimated.

Finni has been helping us with our filming in Iceland and he’s kindly agreed to teach us some Icelandic, so let’s do it!
I love that one…”Já”
“Taller the ensku?” Yeah… That was pretty good! Thanks! This is my personal one:
How do you say the numbers? So, from 1 to 10?
And how do you say the big volcano?
So, as you can see, Icelandic isn’t the easiest language but massive thanks to Finni or, Takk? verði þér að góðu.
And for anyone who has studied Old English, the relation will seem much less distant.

Horrible today: Live Footage of Giant Red LAVA Eruption Icelandic Devours Blue Lagoon parking area!
A volcano in Iceland has erupted again with a bang, spewing lava from a fissure on the southwestern Reykjanes Peninsula. However, country's meteorological office that monitors seismic activity said the latest eruption happened late on Wednesday night, creating a fissure around three kilometres long.Officials say the latest eruption is considerably smaller than the previous one in August and indicates that the eruption has reached its peak.

Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
