Holy Island On Visit To The Firth of Clyde Off The West Coast Of Central Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video, with Scottish music, of the Holy Island or Holy Isle, Scottish Gaelic: Eilean MoLaise, on ancestry, genealogy, family history visit to the Firth of Clyde, off the west coast. The island has a long history as a sacred site, with a spring or holy well held to have healing properties, the hermit cave of 6th century monk Saint Molaise, and evidence of a 13th century monastery. An old Gaelic name for the island was Eilean MoLaise, Molaise's Island; this is the origin, via Elmolaise and Limolas, of Lamlash, the name of the village on Arran that faces Holy Island. Some runic writing is to be found on the roof of St Molaise's cave and a Viking fleet sheltered between Arran and Holy Isle before the Battle of Largs. Sea Fishing Scotland - Firth of Clyde - Wemyss Bay
After seeing the weather at my planned fishing location, I decided to fish the coast on the other side of the country, where the wind was much calmer and the rain had a chance of stopping.
Caught lots of small Pollock and a couple of other species that weren’t planned.

The inner lighthouse stands on the south west corner of the island opposite Kingscross Point on Arran. It is one of two lighthouses, that make up a pair the other being the Holy Island Outer Light. It is locally known as Wee Donald. It was built in 1877 by David and Thomas Stevenson. The lighthouse cottages were built behind to house four families of lighthouse keepers and a walled garden was made.
Saint Molaise lived from 566 until 640. He was an Irish monk and bishop who a number of years as a hermit living on Holy Island, off the east coast of the Isle of Arran. During his life he also visited Rome, and he is credited with bringing to Ireland the Roman Church's method of calculating the date of Easter. Molaise was the son of Cairell, the king of Ulster, and the Scottish princess Gemma. On his father's death he declined the chance to succeed him as king, and instead turned to the life of a hermit in a cave on what became known after him as Eilean Molaise, and is now called Holy Island, off the east coast of the Isle of Arran. It is thought that Molaise chose this location because the island already had a reputation as a spiritual place, which in his day may have been known as Inis Shroin, or Island of the Water Spirit.

Haggas said: “She did really well and she had to be really tough.
“She’s come a long way in a short time, she didn’t win her first race by far and she hasn’t won by far today.
“She did well because she had no experience against some experienced horses, so it was a very pleasing performance so it was good to see.
“I actually think a bit more cut in the ground would suit her better too.
“I suspect she’ll run again but there’s nothing set in stone, possibly the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte (at Chantilly). That’s a Group Two against the boys but it might be worth a look on October 12.”

Holy Island Causeway Driving Disasters
Planning a visit to Holy Island over the summer? Don’t get caught out by the tide like these drivers!
The popular Northumberland tourist destination is a notorious blackspot for emergency rescues, as motorists become stranded on the causeway by rising waters, often having to be rescued by the Coastguard and RNLI.
Be sure to plan your visit around the safe crossing times, which are displayed on both sides of the causeway and around the Island, as well as on the Northumberland County Council Website.

[4K] Explore Holy Island Lindisfarne with Me
Holy Island is a tidal island off the North East Coast of England. A monastery was founded here by St Aidan in 634 AD and St Cuthbert became a Bishop here and was buried here. It is likely to have been given the name Holy Island as miracles happened here, people were healed after visiting St Cuthbert's burial place. It has a holy interesting history which I will explain as you watch the video and see the sites. It has been declared as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and it is a beautiful place to go for a day trip.

Motoring Oddities EP9 Is this the largest tidal road in England? Lindisfarne Causeway Northumberland
#northumberland #lindisfarne #holyisland
Today we're exploring the historically interesting Holy Island and Lindisfarne. With it's castles, viking heritage and ancient ruins, it's a fantastic place to visit.
However, there is a problem... access to the island can only be made at certain times of day for you see, the only road you can use will be submerged under several metres of sea water at high tides. Many people have attempted last minute crossings and almost always have come to regret that decision.
In this episode we look at the Lindisfarne Causeway, a road that twice a day is submerged under the sea.
Join me in the series you didn't know you needed. We'll be looking at several 'Motoring Oddities' from the smallest, to the largest, to the longest and the highest. It's ultimat...

Holy Island of Lindisfarne - Lindisfarne Castle & Holy Island Causeway | Northumberland, England
Explore the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, including driving across Holy Island causeway and visiting Lindisfarne Castle, with my mother and me.
As part of our North of England road trip, my mother and I visit the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland. To reach Holy Island, we drive across the causeway to the island. After a look around Lindisfarne village, including a stop at the famous Lindisfarne Mead, we visit National Trust property Lindisfarne Castle. Lindisfarne Castle is a picturesque English castle with an interesting and varied history.
After our visit to Lindisfarne Castle, we look around the rest of Holy Island, including the lime kilns, Caste Point, the walled garden and views over Lindisfarne Priory.
Then we have to drive back along the causeway before the tide comes in...

American Visits Holy Island
After multiple visits to Northumberland, we FINALLY were in the right place at the right time and were able to visit Lindisfarne Holy Island! This is a location in Northern England that is not only of huge significance to Early Christianity but also to military defense in the Scottish Borders area as well as unusual tidal island which makes for a unique visit!
The castle is fascinating and very well managed. It is a delight to walk back in time and see what it would have been like to visit there in the early 1900’s.
The priory ruin is also lovely, and just steeped in history. Come along with me to explore Holy Island! This video was filmed in June 2022.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne【4K】| Northumberland Island Walk 2021
Join me for something a little bit different, as we take a walk on the windswept Holy Island of Lindisfarne, located in Northumberland, roughly a mile off the coast of the British mainland. Accessible only at certain times of day due to the tides, this is one of the holiest places in Britain, and the place from where Christianity first spread in northern England almost 1,400 years ago.
On our walk around The Holy Island, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including The Heugh, Heugh Hill Lighthouse, Lindisfarne War Memorial, The Lookout, the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, St. Cuthbert's Island, the Old Lifeboat House, the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Market Place, Lindisfarne Village Cross, St. Cuthbert's United Reformed Church, St. Aidan's Winery - the home of Lindisfarne M...

It's ultimately pointless but that's half the fun.

Then we have to drive back along the causeway before the tide comes in!
Thank you for watching our visit to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and Lindisfarne Castle.

Aidan's Winery - the home of Lindisfarne Mead, The Manor House Hotel, The Crown & Anchor Inn, The White House, Marygate, Chare Ends, The Ship Inn (formerly The Northumberland Arms), Lindisfarne Coastguard Station, Lindisfarne Beach, Lindisfarne Harbour, and Lindisfarne Castle.

Aidan's Winery - the home of Lindisfarne Mead, The Manor House Hotel, The Crown & Anchor Inn, The White House, Marygate, Chare Ends, The Ship Inn (formerly The Northumberland Arms), Lindisfarne Coastguard Station, Lindisfarne Beach, Lindisfarne Harbour, and Lindisfarne Castle.
