Northumberland Island (Danish: Northumberland Ø; also Kiatak and Kujata) is an island off the coast of northern Greenland. Coordinates: 77°22′N 71°55′W / 77.367°N 71.917°W / 77.367; -71.917

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a tidal island off the northeast coast of England. It is also known just as Holy Island. It constitutes the civil parish of Holy Island in Northumberland. Holy Island has a recorded history from the 6th century. It was an important centre of Celtic Christianity under Saints Aidan of Lindisfarne, Cuthbert, Eadfrith of Lindisfarne and Eadberht of Lindisfarne
. After Viking invasions and the Norman conquest of England a priory was reestablished. A small castle was built on the island in 1550.
The island of Lindisfarne appears under the Old Welsh name Medcaut in the 9th century Historia Brittonum. Following up on a suggestion by Richard Coates, Andrew Breeze proposes that the name ultimately derives from Latin Medicata [Insula] (English: Healing [Island]), owing perhaps to the island's reputation for medicinal herbs.
Both the Parker Chronicle and Peterborough Chronicle annals of AD 793 record the Old English name, Lindisfarena. The soubriquet Holy Island was in use by the 11th century when it appears in Latin as Insula Sacra. The reference was to saints Aidan and Cuthbert.
Lindisfarne are an English folk rock and progressive rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne established in 1968 (originally called Brethren). The original line-up comprised Alan Hull (vocals, guitar, piano), Ray Jackson (vocals, mandolin, harmonica), Simon Cowe (guitar, mandolin, banjo, keyboards), Rod Clements (bass guitar, violin) and Ray Laidlaw (drums).
They are best known for the albums Nicely Out of Tune (1970), Fog on the Tyne (1971) which became the biggest selling UK album in 1972, Dingly Dell (1972) and Back and Fourth (1978), and also for the success of songs such as "Meet Me on the Corner", "Lady Eleanor", "Run For Home" and "We Can Swing Together".
The group began as 'The Downtown Faction', led by Rod Clements, but soon changed their name to Brethren. In 1968, they were joined by Alan Hull and became Lindisfarne, the name of an island off the coast of Northumberland.
In 1970 Tony Stratton-Smith signed them to Charisma Records and their debut album Nicely Out of Tune was released that year. This album defined their mixture of bright harmony and up tempo folk rock. Neither single released from the album, "Clear White Light" nor "Lady Eleanor", charted; nor did the album itself at first. However the band obtained a strong following from its popular live concerts and built up a following as one of the top festival bands.
Lindisfarne has several meanings:
Northumberland (RP pronunciation /nɔːˈθʌmbələnd/local /nɔːˈθʊmbələnd/) is a county in North East England. The northernmost county of England, it borders Cumbria to the west, County Durham to the south and Scotland to the north. To the east is the North Sea coastline with a 64-mile (103 km) long distance path. The county town is Alnwick although the county council is located in Morpeth (for the moment, as there are plans to move it to nearby Ashington). The northernmost point of Northumberland and England is located at Marshall Meadows Bay.
The county of Northumberland included Newcastle upon Tyne until 1400, when the city became a county of itself. Northumberland expanded greatly in the Tudor period, annexing Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1482, Tynedale in 1495, Tynemouth in 1536, Redesdale around 1542 and Hexhamshire in 1572.Islandshire, Bedlingtonshire and Norhamshire were incorporated into Northumberland in 1844.Tynemouth and other settlements in North Tyneside were transferred to Tyne and Wear in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972.
Northumberland was a federal and provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1917 to 1968 and from 1987 to 2003, ad in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2007.
This riding was first created in 1914 from Northumberland East and Northumberland West ridings. It initially consisted of the county of Northumberland, excluding the township of Monaghan South. In 1947, South Monghan was added to the riding, so that it consisted of the county of Northumberland. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed between Northumberland—Durham and Prince Edward—Hastings ridings.
In 1976, Northumberland riding was recreated from parts of those two ridings. The new riding consisted of the County of Northumberland (including the Village of Hastings), but excluding the Township of Hope, the Town of Cobourg, and the part of the Township of Hamilton lying west of the Town of Cobourg and south of the Macdonald Cartier Freeway), and the Townships of Rawdon and Sidney (but excluding the city of Belleville) in the County of Hastings. In 1987, it was redefined to consist of the County of Northumberland and the City of Trenton.

The attack on Lindisfarne in 793 came from a viking settlement in the North, possibly originating in Norway. It was not the first time that raiders had attacked England. But it was this attack on Christian land that may have begun what is now known as the ‘Viking Age.’ Become a Simple History member: https://www.youtube.com/simplehistory/join Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/simplehistory Copyright: DO NOT translate and re-upload our content on Youtube or other social media. In this episode, Dan visits Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island in Northumberland. Today it’s a tranquil and spiritual place, but in the late 8th century it was the scene of a brutal raid that ushered in the beginning of England’s Viking age. In 793 AD, the holy island of Lindisfarne was subject to one of the most infamous Viking raids on Britain. ‘Heathen' men plundered the sacred monastery in an event that shook Christian Europe. Dan Snow travels across the tidal causeway to Lindisfarne to discover the rich culture of this holy place before the Vikings raided - a beautiful site of pilgrimage and artistry. He also goes to Jarrow to discover more about the powerful Anglo Saxon kingdom of Northumbria and its great religious and historical writers such as Bede. And History Hit is on site at the Lindisfarne excavations of DigVentures: working with Durham University they have uncovered remarkable rune-inscribed namestones and a charming glass gaming piece that reveals the vibrant culture of the North Sea world in the early medie...
📜 Lindisfarne, An Age Borne in Fire - Extra History Troubling omens were recorded in Lindisfarne prior to the Viking invasion on June 8, 793 CE. It was the seat of the bishop for much of Northeastern Britain. Monks in the scriptorium produced some of the most celebrated illustrated manuscripts, and abroad they helped convert the pagans of Britain. Lindisfarne had been the final resting place of St. Cuthbert, so pilgrims often came and enriched the priory and the town. It never occurred to anyone that when strange ships appeared on the horizon, they might be hostile. The men who disembarked were fierce, unknown, and merciless. They cut down monks in the churches and looted the church... then left. Bishop Higbald survived and sent the news across Europe. From there, the frequency of raids o...
The final version of the Northumbrian Lord's Prayer in Old English or Anglo-Saxon, constructed around 720 AD in the "North of the Humber" dialect, with no infrasound and proper pronunciation as I understand it. Viewers and the algorithm are probably getting sick of it, so I won't fiddle with it any longer, hahahah! :)) The tune is of course Consort No. XII written by King Henry VIII of the Tudor Dynasty, hence the thumbnail and slides! #northumberland #lindisfarne #holyisland Today we're exploring the historically interesting Holy Island and Lindisfarne. With it's castles, viking heritage and ancient ruins, it's a fantastic place to visit. However, there is a problem... access to the island can only be made at certain times of day for you see, the only road you can use will be submerged under several metres of sea water at high tides. Many people have attempted last minute crossings and almost always have come to regret that decision. In this episode we look at the Lindisfarne Causeway, a road that twice a day is submerged under the sea. Join me in the series you didn't know you needed. We'll be looking at several 'Motoring Oddities' from the smallest, to the largest, to the longest and the highest. It's ultimat...

Inside-out, upside-down, twisting beside myself
Stop that now 'cause you and I were never meant to meet
I think you'd better leave, it's not safe in here
I feel a weakness coming on
Alright then, alright then, I could keep your number for a rainy day
That's where this ends, no mistakes, no misbehaving
I was doing so well, could we just be friends?
I feel a weakness coming on
It's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this, yeah
Was not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault
Inside-out, upside-down, twisting beside myself
Stop that now, you're as close as it gets without touching me
Oh now, don't make it harder than it already is
And I feel a weakness coming on
It's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this, yeah
Was not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault
Big trouble losing control
Primary resistance at a critical low
On the, on the double gotta get a hold
Point of no return, one second to go
No response on any level, red alert, this vessel's under siege
Total overload, all systems down, they've got control
There's no way out, we are surrounded
Give in, give in and relish every minute of it
Freeze, awake here forever
I feel a weakness coming on
It's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this, yeah
Was not meant to be like this, it's just what I don't need
I don't want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault
Feel like this, it?s all your fault
Feel like this, it?s all your fault
Feel like this, it?s all your fault
