Dumbarton Castle (Scottish Gaelic:Dùn Breatainn, pronounced[d̪̊unˈb̊ɾʲɛhd̪̊ɪɲ]) has the longest recorded history of any stronghold in Scotland. It overlooks the Scottish town of Dumbarton, and sits on a plug of volcanic basalt known as Dumbarton Rock which is 240 feet (73m) high.
History
Iron Age
At least as far back as the Iron Age, this has been the site of a strategically important settlement. Its early residents were known to have traded with the Romans. The presence of a settlement is first recorded in a letter Saint Patrick wrote to King Ceretic of Alt Clut in the late 5th century.
Early Medieval Era
David Nash Ford has proposed that Dumbarton was the Cair Brithon ("Fort of the Britons") listed by Nennius among the 28 cities of Sub-Roman Britain. From the fifth century until the ninth, the castle was the centre of the independent BrythonicKingdom of Strathclyde. Alt Clut or Alcluith (Scottish Gaelic:Alt Chluaidh, pronounced[aɫ̪d̪̊ˈxɫ̪uəj], lit. "Rock of the Clyde"), the Brythonic name for Dumbarton Rock, became a metonym for kingdom. The king of Dumbarton in about AD570 was Riderch Hael, who features in Welsh and Latin works.
The first Dumbarton Castle, originally of the Royal Scots Navy was a frigate taken into the Royal Navy in 1707.
The second Dumbarton Castle (K388) was launched as Castle-classcorvette K388 and was later redesignated frigate F388. She was built in 1944 and saw service in the North Atlantic before being placed into reserve in 1946 before being scrapped.
HMS Dumbarton Castle (P265) was an offshore patrol vessel of the BritishRoyal Navy. Her main role was the protection of the offshore assets of the United Kingdom, including oil and gas installations and fisheries out to the 200 mile (370km) limit.
She spent much of her time deployed in the South Atlantic as guard ship, patrolling around the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, alternating with her sister HMS Leeds Castle. Her long association with the Falkland Islands resulted in the ship's company being given permission to add her name to the roll of honour written in white rocks on the hillside opposite Stanley in 2007.
Dumbarton Castle was replaced by a River class-based vessel, HMS Clyde, in early 2008.
Both Dumbarton Castle and her sister were sold to Bangladesh in April 2010. Dumbarton Castle left Portsmouth on 21 May 2010 towed by the tug Multratug 7, for A&P Group facility in Newcastle upon Tyne for a major regeneration project with her sister ship HMS Leeds Castle. The project was completed in December 2010.
Dumbarton emerged from the 19th century as a centre for shipbuilding, glassmaking, and whisky production. However these industries have since declined, or demised altogether, and Dumbarton today increasingly functions as a commuter town for the major City of Glasgow which is 13 miles (21km) east-southeast. Dumbarton F.C. is the burgh's local association football club.

With a change in the weather here, it's great to be able to get the Castle back in the water after lieing up over the winter, a solid run to check the motors and some good manouveres shows she's still got it..

HMS Dumbarton Castle (GMYPBC)
The fishery protection vessel HMS Dumbarton Castle, this was her first time in the water. Needs some slight adjustments to the speed controller but other than that not to bad.
As for the model, there's still some detailing work to be done which I'll do over the next few weeks.
